1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,	1 Puisque nous voici entourés d’une vraie nuée de témoins, laissons là tout le poids mort, ce péché qui nous assiège, et sachons tenir dans la course qui nous attend.
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.	2 Fixons les yeux sur Jésus, qui dirige cette compétition de la foi et qui la mène à son terme. Au lieu de la joie qui lui était offerte, il a choisi la croix. Il n’a pas eu peur de l’humiliation et maintenant il siège à la droite de Dieu.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.	3 Si vous pensez à celui qui a souffert une telle opposition de la part des pécheurs, vous ne risquerez pas de manquer de forces et de courage.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.	4 Vous êtes aux prises avec l’injustice, mais vous n’avez pas encore résisté jusqu’au sang.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:	5 Peut-être avez-vous oublié cette bonne parole que la sagesse vous dit comme à ses fils: Mon fils, ne sois pas triste quand le Seigneur te corrige, ne perds pas courage quand il te reprend.
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.	6 Le Seigneur corrige celui qu’il aime, les fils préférés auront droit à ses coups.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?	7 Vous souffrez, mais c’est pour votre bien; Dieu vous traite comme des fils. Quel fils n’est pas corrigé par son père?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.	8 Si vous ne receviez pas de correction, comme il arrive à tous, vous ne seriez pas des fils, mais des bâtards.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?	9 Nous avons accepté que nos pères selon la chair nous corrigent: à bien plus forte raison nous nous soumettrons au Père des esprits pour trouver la vie.
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.	10 Nos pères nous corrigeaient sans voir plus loin que la vie présente, si brève, mais lui a en vue ce qui nous aidera à atteindre sa propre sainteté.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.	11 Une correction n’est jamais agréable sur le moment, elle nous fait mal; mais ensuite, si nous nous laissons instruire, elle produit ses fruits: la vie selon Dieu et la paix.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;	12 Allons donc, redressez ces épaules qui tombent et ces genoux qui vacillent
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.	13 et rendez droit le chemin par où vous devez passer pour que l’éclopé ne reste pas sur la route, mais qu’il se rétablisse.
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:	14 Ayez pour objectif la paix avec tous et la sainteté, car sans elle on ne peut voir le Seigneur.
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;	15 Faites attention que personne ne perde la grâce de Dieu. Prenez garde à la plante amère qui prend racine et porte tort à beaucoup d’autres.
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.	16 Qu’on ne voie pas quelqu’un de mauvaises mœurs, quelque profanateur comme Ésaü qui vendit ses privilèges de fils aîné pour une assiette de soupe.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.	17 Vous savez qu’ensuite il fut rejeté quand il voulut avoir, lui aussi, sa part de la bénédiction. Il eut beau supplier et pleurer, il ne put rien y changer.
18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,	18 Rappelez-vous votre initiation. Il n’y a pas eu de feu qui brûle physiquement, pas de nuée obscure ou d’ouragan,
19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:	19 ni le son de la trompette et cette voix qui parlait de telle façon que ceux qui l’entendirent demandaient de ne plus l’entendre.
20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:	20 Tout cela c’était pour qu’ils respectent l’ordre qu’on leur avait donné: Homme ou animal, celui qui s’approche de la montagne sera tué à coups de pierres.
21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)	21 Ce spectacle était si terrifiant que Moïse dit: Je suis terrifié et je tremble.
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,	22 Mais vous avez eu accès au Mont Sion et à la cité du Dieu vivant, la Jérusalem céleste avec ses milliers d’anges.
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,	23 L’assemblée des Premiers-nés, premiers admis dans le ciel, était là en fête. Vous êtes venus jusqu’à Dieu, le juge universel, avec les esprits des justes déjà arrivés à leur perfection.
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.	24 Là était Jésus, le médiateur de la Nouvelle Alliance, avec le sang de l’aspersion qui crie beaucoup plus fort que le sang d’Abel.
25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:	25 Prenez donc garde de ne pas faire la sourde oreille à celui qui parle. En ce temps-là, ceux qui n’ont pas écouté le prophète de la terre n’ont pu échapper. Que se passera-t-il si nous nous détournons de celui qui parle du haut du ciel?
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.	26 En ce temps-là sa voix a fait trembler la terre, mais maintenant on nous avertit: Un peu plus et je vais secouer non seulement la terre mais aussi le ciel.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.	27 Ce un peu plus signifie qu’on va remplacer ces choses qui branlent parce qu’elles sont créées, et alors restera ce qui est inébranlable.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:	28 Et puisque nous avons reçu un royaume inébranlable, gardons la faveur qui nous est faite et servons Dieu comme il le désire, avec amour et pour de bon,
29 For our God is a consuming fire.	29 car notre Dieu est un feu dévorant.
