KING JAMES BIBLEBIBLIA
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,1 Entretanto Saulo, respirando todavía amenazas y muertes contra los discípulos del Señor, se presentó al Sumo Sacerdote,
And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.2 y le pidió cartas para las sinagogas de Damasco, para que si encontraba algunos seguidores del Camino, hombres o mujeres, los pudiera llevar atados a Jerusalén.
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:3 Sucedió que, yendo de camino, cuando estaba cerca de Damasco, de repente le rodeó una luz venida del cielo,
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?4 cayó en tierra y oyó una voz que le decía: «Saúl, Saúl, ¿por qué me persigues?»
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.5 El respondió: «¿Quién eres, Señor?» Y él: «Yo soy Jesús, a quien tú persigues.
And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.6 Pero levántate, entra en la ciudad y se te dirá lo que debes hacer».
And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.7 Los hombres que iban con él se habían detenido mudos de espanto; oían la voz, pero no veían a nadie.
And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.8 Saulo se levantó del suelo, y, aunque tenía los ojos abiertos, no veía nada. Le llevaron de la mano y le hicieron entrar en Damasco.
And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.9 Pasó tres días sin ver, sin comer y sin beber.
And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.10 Había en Damasco un discípulo llamado Ananías. El Señor le dijo en una visión: «Ananías». El respondió: «Aquí estoy, Señor».
And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,11 Y el Señor: «Levántate y vete a la calle Recta y pregunta en casa de Judas por uno de Tarso llamado Saulo; mira, está en oración
And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.12 y ha visto que un hombre llamado Ananías entraba y le imponía las manos para devolverle la vista».
Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:13 Respondió Ananías: «Señor, he oído a muchos hablar de ese hombre y de los muchos males que ha causado a tus santos en Jerusalén
And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.14 y que está aquí con poderes de los sumos sacerdotes para apresar a todos los que invocan tu nombre».
But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:15 El Señor le contestó: «Vete, pues éste me es un instrumento de elección que lleve mi nombre ante los gentiles, los reyes y los hijos de Israel.
For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.16 Yo le mostraré todo lo que tendrá que padecer por mi nombre».
And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.17 Fue Ananías, entró en la casa, le impuso las manos y le dijo: «Saúl, hermano, me ha enviado a ti el Señor Jesús, el que se te apareció en el camino por donde venías, para que recobres la vista y seas lleno del Espíritu Santo».
And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.18 Al instante cayeron de sus ojos unas como escamas, y recobró la vista; se levantó y fue bautizado.
And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.19 Tomó alimento y recobró las fuerzas. Estuvo algunos días con los discípulos de Damasco,
And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.20 y en seguida se puso a predicar a Jesús en las sinagogas: que él era el Hijo de Dios.
But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?21 Todos los que le oían quedaban atónitos y decían: «¿No es éste el que en Jerusalén perseguía encarnizadamente a los que invocaban ese nombre, y no ha venido aquí con el objeto de llevárselos atados a los sumos sacerdotes?»
But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.22 Pero Saulo se crecía y confundía a los judíos que vivían en Damasco demostrándoles que aquél era el Cristo.
And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:23 Al cabo de bastante tiempo los judíos tomaron la decisión de matarle.
But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.24 Pero Saulo tuvo conocimiento de su determinación. Hasta las puertas estaban guardadas día y noche para poderle matar.
Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.25 Pero los discípulos le tomaron y le descolgaron de noche por la muralla dentro de una espuerta.
And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.26 Llegó a Jerusalén e intentaba juntarse con los discípulos; pero todos le tenían miedo, no creyendo que fuese discípulo.
But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.27 Entonces Bernabé le tomó y le presentó a los apóstoles y les contó cómo había visto al Señor en el camino y que le había hablado y cómo había predicado con valentía en Damasco en el nombre de Jesús.
And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.28 Andaba con ellos por Jerusalén, predicando valientemente en el nombre del Señor.
And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.29 Hablaba también y discutía con los helenistas; pero éstos intentaban matarle.
Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.30 Los hermanos, al saberlo, le llevaron a Cesarea y le hicieron marchar a Tarso.
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.31 Las Iglesias por entonces gozaban de paz en toda Judea, Galilea y Samaria; se edificaban y progresaban en el temor del Señor y estaban llenas de la consolación del Espíritu Santo.
And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.32 Pedro, que andaba recorriendo todos los lugares, bajó también a visitar a los santos que habitaban en Lida.
And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.33 Encontró allí a un hombre llamado Eneas, tendido en una camilla desde hacía ocho años, pues estaba paralítico.
And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.34 Pedro le dijo: «Eneas, Jesucristo te cura; levántate y arregla tu lecho». Y al instante se levantó.
And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.35 Todos los habitantes de Lida y Sarón le vieron, y se convirtieron al Señor.
Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.36 Había en Joppe una discípula llamada Tabitá, que quiere decir Dorcás. Era rica en buenas obras y en limosnas que hacía.
And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.37 Por aquellos días enfermó y murió. La lavaron y la pusieron en la estancia superior.
And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.38 Lida está cerca de Joppe, y los discípulos, al enterarse que Pedro estaba allí, enviaron dos hombres con este ruego: «No tardes en venir a nosotros».
Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.39 Pedro partió inmediatamente con ellos. Así que llegó le hicieron subir a la estancia superior y se le presentaron todas las viudas llorando y mostrando las túnicas y los mantos que Dorcás hacía mientras estuvo con ellas.
But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.40 Pedro hizo salir a todos, se puso de rodillas y oró; después se volvió al cadáver y dijo: «Tabitá, levántate». Ella abrió sus ojos y al ver a Pedro se incorporó.
And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.41 Pedro le dio la mano y la levantó. Llamó a los santos y a las viudas y se la presentó viva.
And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.42 Esto se supo por todo Joppe y muchos creyeron en el Señor.
And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.43 Pedro permaneció en Joppe bastante tiempo en casa de un tal Simón, curtidor.
