KING JAMES BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.1 'In al truth I tel you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but climbs in someother way, is a thief and a bandit.
But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.2 He who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock;
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.3 the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leadsthem out.
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.4 When he has brought out al those that are his, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep fol ow becausethey know his voice.
And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.5 They wil never fol ow a stranger, but wil run away from him because they do not recognise the voiceof strangers.'
This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.6 Jesus told them this parable but they failed to understand what he was saying to them.
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.7 So Jesus spoke to them again: In all truth I tell you, I am the gate of the sheepfold.
All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.8 Al who have come before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep took no notice of them.
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.9 I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be safe: such a one will go in and out and wil findpasture.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.10 The thief comes only to steal and kil and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have itto the full.
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.
But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.12 The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and the sheep do not belong to him, abandons thesheep as soon as he sees a wolf coming, and runs away, and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep;
The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.13 he runs away because he is only a hired man and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.14 I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me,
As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.16 And there are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, and I must lead these too. They too willlisten to my voice, and there wil be only one flock, one shepherd.
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.17 The Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.18 No one takes it from me; I lay it down of my own free wil , and as I have power to lay it down, so Ihave power to take it up again; and this is the command I have received from my Father.
There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.19 These words caused a fresh division among the Jews.
And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?20 Many said, 'He is possessed, he is raving; why do you listen to him?'
Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?21 Others said, 'These are not the words of a man possessed by a devil: could a devil open the eyes ofthe blind?'
And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.22 It was the time of the feast of Dedication in Jerusalem. It was winter,
And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.23 and Jesus was in the Temple walking up and down in the Portico of Solomon.
Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.24 The Jews gathered round him and said, 'How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense? Ifyou are the Christ, tel us openly.'
Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.25 Jesus replied: I have told you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name are mywitness;
But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.26 but you do not believe, because you are no sheep of mine.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:27 The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.28 I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one wil ever steal them from my hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.29 The Father, for what he has given me, is greater than anyone, and no one can steal anything fromthe Father's hand.
I and my Father are one.30 The Father and I are one.
Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.31 The Jews fetched stones to stone him,
Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?32 so Jesus said to them, 'I have shown you many good works from my Father; for which of these areyou stoning me?'
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.33 The Jews answered him, 'We are stoning you, not for doing a good work, but for blasphemy; thoughyou are only a man, you claim to be God.'
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?34 Jesus answered: Is it not written in your Law: I said, you are gods?
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;35 So it uses the word 'gods' of those people to whom the word of God was addressed -- and scripturecannot be set aside.
Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?36 Yet to someone whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world you say, 'You areblaspheming' because I said, 'I am Son of God.'
If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.37 If I am not doing my Father's work, there is no need to believe me;
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.38 but if I am doing it, then even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in the work I do; then youwil know for certain that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.
Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,39 They again wanted to arrest him then, but he eluded their clutches.
And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.40 He went back again to the far side of the Jordan to the district where John had been baptising at firstand he stayed there.
And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.41 Many people who came to him said, 'John gave no signs, but all he said about this man was true';
And many believed on him there.42 and many of them believed in him.
