Deuteronomy 7

1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;	1 Quando il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà introdotto nella terra, di cui entrerai in possesso, e avrà disperse innanzi a te varie genti, l’Hetheo, e il Gergezeo, e l’Amorrheo, il Cananeo, e il Pherezeo, e l'Heveo, e il Jebuseo, sette nazioni molto più numerose e possenti che tu non sei:
2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:	2 E quando il Signore Dio tuo le avrà date in tuo potere, le sterminerai interamente. Non farai con esse alleanza, né userai con esse misericordia.
3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.	3 E non contrarrai matrimonii con loro. Non darai la tua figliuola a un uomo di quella stirpe, né prenderai la figliuola di lui pel tuo figliuolo:
4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.	4 Perocché ella sedurrebbe il tuo figliuolo, e lo alienerebbe da me per farlo anzi servire a’ dii stranieri: e si accenderebbe il furor del Signore, e ben presto ti sterminerebbe.
5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.	5 Ma piuttosto fate loro così: Gettate a terra i loro altari, e spezzate le statue, e tagliate i boschetti, e date alle fiamme i simulacri,
6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.	6 Perché tu se' un popolo consacrato al Signore Dio tuo. Ti elesse il Signore Dio tuo per essere popolo di sua proprietà tra tutti i popoli, che son sulla terra.
7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:	7 Non perché voi superaste in numero ogni altra gente, si è unito a voi il Signore, e vi ha eletti, mentre siete inferiori di numero a tutti i popoli:
8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.	8 Ma perché egli vi ha amati, e ha mantenuto il giuramento fatto a' padri vostri, per questo vi trasse con man possente, e vi riscattò dalla casa di schiavitù, dalle mani di Faraone re dell'Egitto.
9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;	9 E tu conoscerai, come il Signore Dio tuo egli è un Dio forte, e fedele, che mantiene il patto, e la misericordia con quei che lo amano, e osservano i suoi precetti, per mille generazioni:
10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.	10 E rende tosto la loro mercede a coloro, che l’odiano, onde gli sperde, e non differisce più oltre, pagando loro immediatamente quel che han meritato.
11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.	11 Osserva adunque i precetti, e le cerimonie, e le leggi, che io oggi ti ordino di osservare.
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:	12 Se dopo di avere udite queste leggi, le manterrai, e le metterai in esecuzione, manterrà a te parimente il Signore Dio tuo il patto, e la misericordia promessa con giuramento a' padri tuoi.
13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.	13 Ed egli ti amerà, e ti moltiplicherà, e benedirà il frutto del tuo seno, e i frutti della tua terra, il tuo frumento, e la tua vendemmia, e l’olio, e gli armenti, e i greggi delle tue pecore nella terra, la quale egli giurò ai padri tuoi di dare a te.
14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.	14 Sarai benedetto tra tutti i popoli. Non vi avrà chi sia sterile in casa tua dell'un sesso, o dell'altro né tra gli uomini, né tra gli animali.
15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.	15 Manderà lungi da te il Signore tutti i malori; e non sopra di te, ma sopra de' tuoi nemici farà cadere que' flagelli pessimi dell'Egitto, che sono a te noti.
16 And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.	16 Tu divorerai tutti i popoli, i quali dal Signore Dio tuo saran dati in tuo potere. Non s'impietosisca sopra di essi il tuo occhio, e guardati di servire agli dii loro, che non sieno a te di rovina.
17 If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?	17 Se tu dirai in cuor tuo: Queste genti sono in maggior numero, che non son io, come potrò io sterminarle?
18 Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;	18 Non temere, ma ricordati di quello che fece a Faraone, e a tutti gli Egiziani il Signore Dio tuo,
19 The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.	19 (Ricordati) delle piaghe grandissime, che tu vedesti cogli occhi tuoi, e dei segni, e de' prodigii, e della mano forte, e del braccio, che stese per liberarti il Signore Dio tuo: il simile farà egli a tutti i popoli, dei quali tu hai timore.
20 Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.	20 Oltre a ciò il Signore Dio tuo spedirà contro di essi i calabroni, sino a tanto che abbia spersi e distrutti quelli che avran potuto nascondersi a te colla fuga.
21 Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.	21 Tu non li temerai, perché il Signore Dio tuo è in mezzo a te, il Dio grande e terribile.
22 And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.	22 Egli consumerà dinanzi a te queste nazioni a poco a poco, e parte a parte.Tu non potrai sterminarle ad un tratto, affinché non moltiplichino in tuo danno le fiere selvagge.
23 But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.	23 E il Signore Dio tuo le darà in tuo potere, e le andrà uccidendo, fino a che sieno affatto distrutte.
24 And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.	24 E ti darà nelle mani i suoi regi, e farà si, che dei loro nomi non resti memoria sotto del cielo. Nissuno potrà resistere a te, fino a che tu gli abbia ridotti in polvere.
25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.	25 Getterai alle fiamme le loro statue: non desidererai l'argento e l'oro, onde son fatte, e nulla di queste cose ti approprierai per non dare inciampo: perocché sono abominazione del Signore Dio tuo:
26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.	26 E nissuna cosa dell'idolo entrerà in tua casa, affinché tu non diventi anatema, come egli pure lo è. Lo detesterai come immondezza, e qual sudiciume e sporcizia, perché egli è un anatema.
