Deuteronomy 29

1 These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.	1 Moïse rassembla tout Israël et lui dit: “Vous avez vu tout ce que Yahvé a fait sous vos yeux dans le pays d’Égypte, contre le Pharaon, contre ses serviteurs et tout son pays.
2 And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;	2 Vos yeux ont vu toutes ces grandes épreuves, ces signes et ces prodiges,
3 The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:	3 mais jusqu’à ce jour Yahvé ne vous a pas donné un cœur pour connaître, des yeux pour voir et des oreilles pour entendre.
4 Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.	4 Cela fait 40 ans que je vous conduis dans le désert, et vos vêtements ne se sont pas usés sur vous, ni vos sandales à vos pieds.
5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.	5 Vous n’aviez pas de pain à manger, vous n’aviez pas de vin ou de boisson fermentée, et c’est ainsi que vous avez appris comment je suis Yahvé votre Dieu.
6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.	6 Quand vous êtes arrivés dans ce lieu, Sihon, roi de Heshbon, et Og, roi du Bashan, sont sortis à notre rencontre pour nous combattre, et nous les avons écrasés.
7 And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:	7 Nous avons pris leur pays et nous l’avons donné en héritage à Ruben, à Gad et à la moitié de la tribu de Manassé.
8 And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.	8 Observez donc maintenant les paroles de cette Alliance, mettez-les en pratique, afin de réussir dans toutes vos entreprises.
9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.	9 Vous êtes tous ici aujourd’hui en présence de Yahvé votre Dieu, avec vos chefs, vos tribus, vos anciens et vos scribes, avec tous les hommes d’Israël,
10 Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,	10 avec vos enfants, vos femmes et l’étranger qui est au milieu du camp, avec celui qui coupe le bois et celui qui puise ton eau.
11 Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:	11 C’est le moment de prêter serment et d’entrer dans l’Alliance que Yahvé ton Dieu conclut en ce jour avec toi.
12 That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:	12 Il te choisit aujourd’hui pour son peuple et il devient ton Dieu, comme il te l’a dit et comme il l’a juré à tes pères Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.
13 That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.	13 Ce n’est pas seulement avec vous que je conclus cette Alliance au moyen d’un serment,
14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;	14 mais avec tous ceux qui se tiennent aujourd’hui avec nous en présence de Yahvé notre Dieu et tous ceux qui ne sont pas avec nous en ce jour.
15 But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:	15 Vous vous rappelez comment nous avons séjourné en Égypte, et comment nous sommes passés au milieu des nations que nous avons traversées.
16 (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;	16 Vous avez vu les horreurs et les idoles de bois et de pierre, d’argent et d’or, qui se trouvent chez elles.
17 And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)	17 Que personne parmi vous, homme, femme, famille ou clan, ne se détourne aujourd’hui de Yahvé notre Dieu pour aller servir les dieux de ces nations. Que nulle racine amère, nulle plante vénéneuse ne se lève parmi vous.
18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;	18 C’est pourquoi, si quelqu’un se considère en sûreté malgré ces avertissements et qu’il pense: ‘Je serai tranquille en n’en faisant qu’à ma tête: le juste et le pécheur périssent pareillement!’,
19 And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:	19 Yahvé ne voudra pas lui pardonner. La colère et la jalousie de Yahvé s’enflammeront contre cet homme, toutes les malédictions qui sont écrites dans ce livre tomberont sur lui et Yahvé effacera son nom de dessous les cieux.
20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.	20 Yahvé le retranchera des tribus d’Israël, et toutes les malédictions de l’Alliance écrites dans le livre de la Loi tomberont sur lui pour son malheur.
21 And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:	21 Quand la génération future verra les plaies de ce pays et les fléaux dont Yahvé l’aura frappé, vos fils qui viendront après vous et l’étranger qui arrivera d’un pays lointain diront:
22 So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;	22 “Ce n’est que soufre et sel, une terre brûlée; rien n’est semé, rien ne germe, aucune herbe ici ne se lève. C’est comme après la catastrophe de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, d’Adma et de Séboyim, que Yahvé a bouleversées dans sa colère et sa fureur.”
23 And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:	23 Dans tous les pays on dira: “Pourquoi Yahvé a-t-il traité ainsi ce pays? Pourquoi sa colère s’est-elle ainsi enflammée?”
24 Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?	24 Et l’on répondra: “C’est parce qu’ils ont abandonné l’Alliance de Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères, Alliance qu’il avait conclue avec eux quand il les fit sortir d’Égypte.
25 Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:	25 Ils sont allés servir d’autres dieux, ils se sont prosternés devant ces dieux qu’ils ne connaissaient pas et que Yahvé ne leur avait pas donné en partage.
26 For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:	26 C’est pourquoi sa colère s’est enflammée contre ce pays, et il a fait venir sur lui toute la malédiction qui est dite dans ce livre.
27 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:	27 Yahvé les a balayés de dessus leur terre avec colère, emportement et grande fureur, et il les a jetés sur cette autre terre où ils sont aujourd’hui.”
28 And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.	28 Les choses cachées appartiennent à Yahvé notre Dieu, mais ce qui est révélé est à nous et à nos fils à jamais: à nous de pratiquer toutes les paroles de cette Loi.
29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
