1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.	1 “Ne jugez pas et vous ne serez pas jugés.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.	2 Car vous serez jugés de la même façon que vous jugez les autres, et la mesure que vous utilisez servira aussi pour vous.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?	3 “Quoi! Tu vois la paille dans l’œil de ton frère et tu ne remarques pas la poutre qui est dans le tien?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?	4 Et tu vas dire à ton frère: “Laisse-moi t’enlever de l’œil cette paille”, alors que la poutre reste là dans ton œil!
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.	5 Mais tu joues la comédie! Enlève d’abord de ton œil la poutre, et ensuite tu verras comment enlever la paille de l’œil de ton frère.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.	6 “Ne donnez pas aux chiens ce qui est saint, n’étalez pas vos perles à la vue des porcs; ils pourraient bien les piétiner, et se retourner ensuite pour vous déchirer.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:	7 “Demandez et l’on vous donnera, cherchez et vous trouverez, frappez à la porte et l’on vous ouvrira;
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.	8 car quiconque demande reçoit, celui qui cherche trouve, et l’on ouvre à celui qui frappe.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?	9 Si votre fils vous demande du pain, lui donnerez-vous une pierre?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?	10 Et s’il demande du poisson, lui donnerez-vous un serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?	11 Mauvais comme vous êtes, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants: combien plus alors votre Père qui est dans les Cieux donnera-t-il de bonnes choses à ceux qui le prient.
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.	12 “Faites donc pour les autres tout ce que vous voulez qu’on fasse pour vous, c’est bien ce que disent la Loi et les Prophètes.
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:	13 “Entrez par la porte étroite. Oui, grande ouverte est la porte, large est le chemin qui mène à la perdition, et c’est une foule qui s’y engage.
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.	14 Mais comme elle est étroite la porte qui mène à la vie, comme le chemin en est resserré! Et ceux qui le trouvent sont bien peu.”
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.	15 “Méfiez-vous des faux prophètes! Ils arrivent chez vous avec leur peau de mouton, mais à l’intérieur ce sont des loups prêts à dévorer.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?	16 Vous les reconnaîtrez à leurs fruits. Iriez-vous chercher des raisins dans les épines ou des figues sur les ronces?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.	17 “C’est la même chose pour tout arbre sain: il produit de bons fruits; et tout arbre malade produit de mauvais fruits.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.	18 Un arbre sain ne peut pas produire de mauvais fruits, et un arbre malade ne peut pas produire de bons fruits.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.	19 Mais tout arbre qui ne donne pas de beaux fruits, on le coupe et on le jette au feu.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.	20 “Donc vous les reconnaîtrez à leurs fruits.”
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.	21 “Il ne suffira pas de me dire: ‘Seigneur! Seigneur!’ pour entrer dans le Royaume des Cieux; entrera celui qui fait la volonté de mon Père des cieux.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?	22 “Beaucoup me diront en ce jour-là: ‘Seigneur, Seigneur, nous avons prophétisé en ton nom; nous avons chassé les démons grâce à ton nom; nous avons fait par ton nom beaucoup de miracles.’
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.	23 Mais alors je leur dirai en face: ‘Je ne vous ai jamais connus, éloignez-vous de moi, vous tous qui travaillez pour le mal.’
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:	24 “C’est pourquoi, si quelqu’un écoute mes paroles que voilà et les met en pratique, on pourra dire de lui: Voici un homme avisé qui a bâti sa maison sur le roc.
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.	25 L’averse est tombée, les torrents sont venus et les vents ont soufflé; ils se sont jetés sur cette maison, mais elle ne s’est pas écroulée car elle était fondée sur le roc.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:	26 “Par contre, si quelqu’un écoute mes paroles que voilà et ne les met pas en pratique, on pourra dire de lui: Voici un homme sans cervelle qui a bâti sa maison sur le sable.
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.	27 L’averse est tombée, les torrents sont venus et les vents ont soufflé; ils se sont jetés sur cette maison et elle s’est écroulée: ce fut un vrai désastre!”
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:	28 Quand Jésus termina ce discours, son enseignement avait beaucoup frappé les foules;
29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.	29 c’est qu’il les enseignait avec autorité et non pas comme leurs maîtres de la Loi.
