KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;1 When Jesus finished these words, he left Galilee and went to the district of Judea across the Jordan.
And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.2 Great crowds followed him, and he cured them there.
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?3 Some Pharisees approached him, and tested him, saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?"
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,4 He said in reply, "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female'
And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate."
They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?7 They said to him, "Then why did Moses command that the man give the woman a bill of divorce and dismiss (her)?"
He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.8 He said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.9 I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery."
His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.10 [His] disciples said to him, "If that is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry."
But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.11 He answered, "Not all can accept [this] word, but only those to whom that is granted.
For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.12 Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it."
Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.13 Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them,
But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.14 but Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.15 After he placed his hands on them, he went away.
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?16 Now someone approached him and said, "Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?"
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.17 He answered him, "Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."
He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,18 He asked him, "Which ones?" And Jesus replied, " 'You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness;
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.19 honor your father and your mother'; and 'you shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?20 The young man said to him, "All of these I have observed. What do I still lack?"
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.21 Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to (the) poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.22 When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.24 Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, "Who then can be saved?"
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.26 Jesus looked at them and said, "For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible."
Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?27 Then Peter said to him in reply, "We have given up everything and followed you. What will there be for us?"
And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.28 Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you that you who have followed me, in the new age, when the Son of Man is seated on his throne of glory, will yourselves sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.29 And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life.
But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.30 But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.
