1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,	1 Il Signore disse ancora a Mosè nella steppa di Moab, presso il Giordano di Gerico:
2 Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.	2 "Ordina ai figli d'Israele che diano ai leviti, come parte del loro possesso, città da abitare e anche i pascoli intorno alle città.
3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.	3 Avranno le città per abitare, i pascoli per le loro bestie, i loro beni, i loro animali.
4 And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.	4 I pascoli delle città che darete ai leviti, dalle mura della città all'esterno, gireranno intorno per mille cubiti.
5 And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.	5 Misurerete all'esterno della città, nel lato orientale, duemila cubiti, nel lato meridionale duemila cubiti, nel lato occidentale duemila cubiti, nel lato settentrionale duemila cubiti, e la città sarà in mezzo: questi saranno per loro i pascoli della città.
6 And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.	6 Le città date da voi ai leviti sono le sei città di rifugio che darete perché vi fugga l'omicida e, oltre a quelle, quarantadue città.
7 So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.	7 Tutte le città che darete ai leviti saranno quarantotto, quelle e i loro pascoli.
8 And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.	8 Le città che darete proverranno dalla proprietà dei figli d'Israele: dal grande prenderete molto, dal piccolo poco. Ognuno, in base alla sua parte che ha ereditato, darà delle sue città ai leviti".
9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,	9 Il Signore disse a Mosè:
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;	10 "Parla ai figli d'Israele e di' loro: Poiché passate il Giordano verso la terra di Canaan,
11 Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.	11 designerete delle città che saranno per voi città di rifugio, dove fuggirà l'omicida che ha colpito qualcuno per inavvertenza.
12 And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.	12 Le città saranno per voi un rifugio dal vendicatore e l'omicida non morirà finché non sarà stato davanti alla comunità in giudizio.
13 And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.	13 Le città che darete saranno per voi sei città di rifugio.
14 Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.	14 Darete tre città al di là del Giordano e tre città nella terra di Canaan: saranno città di rifugio.
15 These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.	15 Per i figli d'Israele, per l'ospite e per chi risiede in mezzo a loro, quelle saranno sei città di rifugio, perché vi fugga chiunque ha colpito qualcuno per inavvertenza.
16 And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.	16 Ma se uno ha colpito un altro con un oggetto di ferro e quello muore, è un omicida e l'omicida sarà messo a morte.
17 And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.	17 Se l'ha colpito con una pietra che aveva in mano, atta a dare la morte, e il colpito è morto, è un omicida e l'omicida sarà messo a morte.
18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.	18 Se l'ha colpito con un oggetto di legno che aveva in mano, atto a causare la morte ed è morto, è un omicida e l'omicida sarà messo a morte.
19 The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.	19 E' il vendicatore del sangue che farà morire l'omicida: quando lo incontrerà, lo farà morire.
20 But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;	20 Se uno per odio urta un altro o gli scaglia contro qualcosa con premeditazione e quello muore,
21 Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.	21 o per ostilità lo colpisce con la propria mano e lo fa morire, chi colpisce sarà messo a morte, è un omicida; il vendicatore del sangue farà morire l'omicida quando l'incontrerà.
22 But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,	22 Ma se per caso e non per ostilità lo ha urtato o gli ha scagliato qualcosa contro senza pensarci,
23 Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:	23 o se gli ha fatto cadere sopra una pietra con la quale poteva morire, senza vedere, ed è morto, e lui non gli era nemico e non cercava il suo male,
24 Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:	24 la comunità giudicherà tra chi ha colpito e il vendicatore del sangue secondo queste regole:
25 And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.	25 la comunità salverà l'omicida dalla mano del vendicatore del sangue e lo farà ritornare nella città di rifugio, nella quale era fuggito, e vi risiederà fino alla morte del grande sacerdote, unto con l'olio santo.
26 But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;	26 Ma se l'omicida uscirà dal confine della città del suo rifugio, nella quale era fuggito,
27 And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:	27 e il vendicatore del sangue lo troverà al di fuori del confine della città del suo rifugio e ucciderà l'omicida, non c'è sangue su di lui,
28 Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.	28 perché quello doveva risiedere nella città del suo rifugio fino alla morte del gran sacerdote; e dopo la morte del gran sacerdote l'omicida tornerà alla terra che possiede.
29 So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.	29 Queste saranno per voi le prescrizioni giuridiche, secondo le vostre generazioni, in tutte le vostre residenze.
30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.	30 Per chiunque colpisce una persona, è secondo i testimoni che si ucciderà l'omicida, ma un solo testimone non può deporre contro uno per farlo morire.
31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.	31 Non prenderete riscatto per la vita di un omicida che ha colpa per morire, perché sarà messo a morte.
32 And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.	32 Non prenderete riscatto per chi fugge dalla città del suo rifugio, per farlo tornare a risiedere nella terra fino alla morte del sacerdote.
33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.	33 Non contaminerete la terra nella quale siete, perché il sangue contamina la terra, e per la terra non si può espiare per il sangue che vi fu versato se non con il sangue di chi lo ha versato.
34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.	34 Non renderai impura la terra nella quale abitate, quella nella quale io abito, perché io, il Signore, abito in mezzo ai figli d'Israele".
