KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,	1 Yahvé parla à Moïse, dans les Steppes de Moab, près du Jourdain vers Jéricho. Il dit:
2 Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.	2 "Ordonne aux Israélites de donner aux Lévites, sur l'héritage qu'ils possèdent, des villes pourqu'ils y demeurent et des pâturages autour de villes. Vous les donnerez aux Lévites.
3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.	3 Les villes seront leur demeure et les pâturages attenants seront pour leur bétail, leurs biens ettoutes leurs bêtes.
4 And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.	4 Les pâturages attenant aux villes que vous donnerez aux Lévites s'étendront, à partir de lamuraille de la ville, sur mille coudées alentour.
5 And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.	5 Vous mesurerez, hors de la ville, 2.000 coudées pour le côté oriental, 2.000 coudées pour le côtéméridional, 2.000 coudées pour le côté occidental, 2.000 coudées pour le côté septentrional, la ville étant aucentre, ce seront les pâturages de ces villes.
6 And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.	6 Les villes que vous donnerez aux Lévites seront les six villes de refuge, cédées par vous pour quele meurtrier puisse s'y enfuir; mais vous donnerez en plus 42 villes.
7 So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.	7 Vous donnerez en tout aux Lévites 48 villes, les villes avec leurs pâturages.
8 And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.	8 Ces villes que vous donnerez sur la possession des Israélites, vous les prendrez en plus grandnombre à celui qui a beaucoup, en plus petit nombre à celui qui a peu. Chacun donnera de ses villes aux Lévitesen proportion de l'héritage qu'il aura reçu."
9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,	9 Yahvé parla à Moïse et dit:
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;	10 "Parle ainsi aux Israélites. Quand vous aurez passé le Jourdain pour gagner la terre de Canaan,
11 Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.	11 vous trouverez des villes dont vous ferez des villes de refuge, où puisse s'enfuir le meurtrier quia frappé quelqu'un par inadvertance.
12 And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.	12 Ces villes vous serviront de refuge contre le vengeur du sang, et le meurtrier ne devra pasmourir avant d'avoir comparu en jugement devant la communauté.
13 And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.	13 Les villes que vous donnerez seront pour vous six villes de refuge:
14 Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.	14 les trois que vous donnerez au-delà du Jourdain et les trois que vous donnerez dans le pays deCanaan seront des villes de refuge.
15 These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.	15 Pour les Israélites comme pour l'étranger et pour l'hôte qui vivent chez vous, ces six villesserviront de refuge, où puisse s'enfuir quiconque a frappé quelqu'un involontairement.
16 And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.	16 Mais s'il l'a frappé avec un objet de fer et qu'il ait ainsi causé sa mort, c'est un meurtrier. Lemeurtrier sera mis à mort.
17 And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.	17 S'il l'a frappé avec une pierre propre à tuer et s'il l'a tué, c'est un meurtrier. Le meurtrier sera misà mort.
18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.	18 Ou bien s'il l'a frappé avec un outil de bois propre à tuer et s'il l'a tué, c'est un meurtrier. Lemeurtrier sera mis à mort.
19 The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.	19 C'est le vengeur du sang qui mettra à mort le meurtrier. Quand il le rencontrera, il le mettra àmort.
20 But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;	20 Si le meurtrier a bousculé la victime par haine, ou si pour l'atteindre il lui a lancé un projectilemortel,
21 Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.	21 ou si par inimitié il lui a porté des coups de poing mortels, celui qui a frappé doit mourir; c'estun meurtrier que le vengeur du sang mettra à mort quand il le rencontrera.
22 But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,	22 Mais s'il a bousculé la victime fortuitement, sans inimitié, ou s'il a lancé sur elle quelqueprojectile, sans chercher à l'atteindre,
23 Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:	23 ou si sans la voir il a fait tomber sur elle une pierre propre à tuer et a ainsi causé sa mort, alorsqu'il n'avait contre elle aucune haine et ne lui voulait aucun mal,
24 Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:	24 la communauté jugera, selon ces règles, entre celui qui a frappé et le vengeur du sang,
25 And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.	25 et sauvera le meurtrier de la main du vengeur du sang. Elle le fera retourner dans la ville derefuge où il s'était enfui, et il y demeurera jusqu'à la mort du grand prêtre qui a été oint de l'huile sainte.
26 But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;	26 Si le meurtrier vient à sortir du territoire de la ville de refuge où il s'est enfui,
27 And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:	27 et que le vengeur du sang le rencontre hors du territoire de sa ville de refuge, le vengeur du sangpourra le tuer sans crainte de représailles:
28 Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.	28 car le meurtrier doit rester dans sa ville de refuge jusqu'à la mort du grand prêtre; c'est après lamort du grand prêtre qu'il pourra retourner au pays où il a son domaine.
29 So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.	29 Ce sera règle de droit pour vous et pour vos générations, partout où vous habiterez.
30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.	30 En toute affaire d'homicide, c'est sur la déposition de témoins que le meurtrier sera mis à mort;mais un témoin unique ne pourra porter une accusation capitale.
31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.	31 Vous n'accepterez pas de rançon pour la vie d'un meurtrier passible de mort; car il doit mourir.
32 And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.	32 Vous n'accepterez pas de rançon de quelqu'un qui, s'étant enfui dans sa ville de refuge, veutrevenir habiter son pays avant la mort du grand prêtre.
33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.	33 Vous ne profanerez pas le pays où vous êtes. C'est le sang qui profane le pays et il n'y a pour lepays d'autre expiation du sang versé que par le sang de celui qui l'a versé.
34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.	34 Tu ne rendras pas impur le pays où vous habitez et au milieu duquel j'habite. Car moi, Yahvé,j'habite au milieu des Israélites."
