1 Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.	1 Da traten herzu die Töchter Zelophhads, des Sohnes Hephers, des Sohnes Gileads, des Sohnes Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, aus den Geschlechtern Manasses, des Sohnes Josephs; und die Namen seiner Töchter waren Mahla, Noa, Hogla, Milka und Thirza.
2 And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,	2 Die traten also vor Mose und vor den Priester Eleasar, vor die Stammesfürsten und die ganze Gemeinde am Eingang des Offenbarungszeltes und sagten:
3 Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.	3 »Unser Vater ist in der Wüste gestorben, hat aber nicht zu der Rotte derer gehört, die sich gegen den HERRN zusammengetan haben, zu der Rotte Korahs, sondern er ist wegen seiner eigenen Sündhaftigkeit gestorben, ohne Söhne zu hinterlassen.
4 Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.	4 Warum soll nun der Name unseres Vaters aus seinem Geschlecht gestrichen werden (= verschwinden), weil er keinen Sohn gehabt hat? Gib uns einen Erbbesitz unter den Geschlechtsgenossen unseres Vaters!«
5 And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.	5 Als nun Mose ihre Rechtssache dem HERRN (zur Entscheidung) vorlegte,
6 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,	6 gab der HERR dem Mose folgenden Bescheid:
7 The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.	7 »Die Töchter Zelophhads haben recht; du sollst ihnen daher unweigerlich einen Erbbesitz unter den Geschlechtsgenossen ihres Vaters geben und sollst den ihrem Vater zustehenden Erbbesitz auf sie übergehen lassen.
8 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.	8 Den Israeliten aber sollst du folgende Verordnung kundtun: ›Wenn ein Mann stirbt, ohne einen Sohn zu hinterlassen, so sollt ihr seinen Erbbesitz auf seine Tochter übergehen lassen;
9 And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.	9 und wenn er keine Tochter hat, so sollt ihr seinen Erbbesitz seinen Brüdern geben;
10 And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren.	10 wenn er auch keine Brüder hat, so sollt ihr seinen Erbbesitz den Brüdern seines Vaters geben;
11 And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.	11 und wenn sein Vater keine Brüder hat, so sollt ihr seinen Erbbesitz seinem nächsten Blutsverwandten aus seinem Geschlecht geben, damit er ihn in Besitz nimmt.‹« Dies soll für die Israeliten eine Rechtsbestimmung sein, wie der HERR dem Mose geboten hat.
12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.	12 Hierauf gebot der HERR dem Mose (vgl. 5.Mose 32,48-52): »Steige auf das Gebirge Abarim hier und sieh dir das Land an, das ich für die Israeliten bestimmt habe.
13 And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.	13 Wenn du es dir angeschaut hast, sollst auch du zu deinen Volksgenossen versammelt werden, wie dein Bruder Aaron zu ihnen bereits versammelt worden ist,
14 For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.	14 weil ihr in der Wüste Zin, als die Gemeinde mit mir haderte, meinem Geheiß, mich durch Beschaffung von Wasser vor ihnen zu verherrlichen, nicht nachgekommen seid« – das bezieht sich auf das Haderwasser von Kades in der Wüste Zin (vgl. 20,1-13).
15 And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying,	15 Da antwortete Mose dem HERRN folgendermaßen:
16 Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,	16 »Gott, der HERR über Leben und Tod alles Fleisches, wolle einen Mann über die Gemeinde bestellen,
17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.	17 der an ihrer Spitze aus- und einziehe, der sie ins Feld hinausführe und wieder zurückführe, damit die Gemeinde des HERRN nicht wie eine Herde ohne Hirten sei!«
18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;	18 Da gebot der HERR dem Mose: »Nimm Josua zu dir, den Sohn Nuns, einen Mann, in dem (mein) Geist wohnt, und lege deine Hand fest auf ihn;
19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.	19 laß ihn dann vor den Priester Eleasar und vor die ganze Gemeinde treten, setze ihn vor ihren Augen in sein Amt ein
20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.	20 und teile ihm etwas von deiner Hoheit (oder: Würde) mit, damit die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten ihm gehorsam ist.
21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.	21 Er soll sich dann (bei jeder Gelegenheit) an den Priester Eleasar wenden, damit dieser für ihn das Urim-Orakel (vgl. 2.Mose 28,29-30) vor dem HERRN befragt: nach dessen Weisung sollen sie zum Kampf ausziehen und ebenso nach dessen Weisung wieder heimkehren, er und alle Israeliten mit ihm, überhaupt die ganze Gemeinde.«
22 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:	22 Mose tat, wie der HERR ihm geboten hatte: er nahm Josua, ließ ihn vor den Priester Eleasar und vor die ganze Gemeinde treten,
23 And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.	23 legte dann seine Hände fest auf ihn und setzte ihn so in sein Amt ein, wie der HERR es durch Mose angeordnet hatte.
