Numbers 14

1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.	1 Entonces toda la comunidad alzó la voz y se puso a gritar; y la gente estuvo llorando aquella noche.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!	2 Luego murmuraron todos los israelitas contra Moisés y Aarón, y les dijo toda la comunidad: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto en Egipto! Y si no, ¡ojalá hubiéramos muerto en el desierto!
3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?	3 ¿Por qué Yahveh nos trae a este país para hacernos caer a filo de espada y que nuestras mujeres y niños caigan en cautiverio? ¿No es mejor que volvamos a Egipto?»
4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.	4 Y se decían unos a otros: «Nombremos a uno jefe y volvamos a Egipto.»
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.	5 Moisés y Aarón cayeron rostro en tierra delante de toda la asamblea de la comunidad de los israelitas.
6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:	6 Pero Josué, hijo de Nun, y Caleb, hijo de Yefunné, que eran de los que habían explorado el país, rasgaron sus vestiduras
7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.	7 y dijeron a toda la comunidad de los israelitas: «La tierra que hemos recorrido y explorado es muy buena tierra.
8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.	8 Si Yahveh nos es favorable, nos llevará a esa tierra y nos la entregará. Es una tierra que mana leche y miel.
9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.	9 No os rebeléis contra Yahveh, ni temáis a la gente del país, porque son pan comido. Se ha retirado de ellos su sombra, y en cambio Yahveh está con nosotros. No tengáis miedo.»
10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.	10 Toda la comunidad hablaba de apedrearlos, cuando la gloria de Yahveh se apareció en la Tienda del Encuentro, a todos los israelitas.
11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?	11 Y dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «¿Hasta cuándo me va a despreciar este pueblo? ¿Hasta cuándo van a desconfiar de mí, con todas las señales que he hecho entre ellos?
12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.	12 Los heriré de peste y los desheredaré. Pero a ti te convertiré en un pueblo más grande y poderoso que ellos.»
13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)	13 Moisés respondió a Yahveh: «Pero los egipcios saben muy bien que, con tu poder, sacaste a este pueblo de en medio de ellos.
14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.	14 Se lo han contado a los habitantes de este país. Estos se han enterado de que tú, Yahveh, estás en medio de este pueblo, y te das a ver cara a cara; de que tú, Yahveh, permaneces en tu Nube sobre ellos, y caminas delante de ellos de día en la columna de Nube, y por la noche en la columna de fuego.
15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,	15 Si haces perecer a este pueblo como un solo hombre, dirán los pueblos que han oído hablar de ti:
16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.	16 Yahveh, como no ha podido introducir a ese pueblo en la tierra que les había prometido con juramento, los ha matado en el desierto.”
17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,	17 Muestra, pues, ahora tu poder, mi Señor, como prometiste diciendo:
18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.	18 Yahveh es tardo a la cólera y rico en bondad, tolera iniquidad y rebeldía; aunque nada deja sin castigo, castigando la iniquidad de los padres en los hijos hasta la tercera y cuarta generación.”
19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.	19 Perdona, pues, la iniquidad de este pueblo conforme a la grandeza de tu bondad, como has soportado a este pueblo desde Egipto hasta aquí.»
20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:	20 Dijo Yahveh: «Le perdono, según tus palabras.
21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.	21 Pero, vivo yo y la gloria de Yahveh llena toda la tierra,
22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;	22 que ninguno de los que han visto mi gloria y las señales que he realizado en Egipto y en el desierto, que me han puesto a prueba ya diez veces y no han escuchado mi voz,
23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:	23 verá la tierra que prometí con juramento a sus padres. No la verá ninguno de los que me han despreciado.
24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.	24 Pero a mi siervo Caleb, ya que fue animado de otro espíritu y me obedeció puntualmente, le haré entrar en la tierra donde estuvo, y su descendencia la poseerá.
25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.	25 El amalecita y el cananeo habitan en el llano. Mañana, volveos y partid para el desierto, camino del mar de Suf.»
26 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,	26 Yahveh habló a Moisés y Aarón y dijo:
27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.	27 «¿Hasta cuándo esta comunidad perversa, que está murmurando contra mí? He oído las quejas de los israelitas, que están murmurando contra mí.
28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:	28 Diles: Por mi vida - oráculo de Yahveh - que he de hacer con vosotros lo que habéis hablado a mis oídos.
29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,	29 Por haber murmurado contra mí, en este desierto caerán vuestros cadáveres, los de todos los que fuisteis revistados y contados, de veinte años para arriba.
30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.	30 Os juro que no entraréis en la tierra en la que, mano en alto, juré estableceros. Sólo a Caleb, hijo de Yefunné y a Josué, hijo de Nun,
31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.	31 y a vuestros pequeñuelos, de los que dijisteis que caerían en cautiverio, los introduciré, y conocerán la tierra que vosotros habéis despreciado.
32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.	32 Vuestros cadáveres caerán en este desierto,
33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.	33 y vuestros hijos serán nómadas cuarenta años en el desierto, cargando con vuestra infidelidad, hasta que no falte uno solo de vuestros cadáveres en el desierto.
34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.	34 Según el número de los días que empleasteis en explorar el país, cuarenta días, cargaréis cuarenta años con vuestros pecados, un año por cada día. Así sabréis lo que es apartarse de mí.
35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.	35 Yo, Yahveh, he hablado. Eso es lo que haré con toda esta comunidad perversa, amotinada contra mí. En este desierto no quedará uno: en él han de morir.»
36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,	36 Los hombres que había enviado Moisés a explorar la tierra, que al volver habían incitado a toda la comunidad a murmurar contra él, poniéndose a hablar mal del país,
37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.	37 aquellos hombres que habían hablado mal del país, cayeron muertos delante de Yahveh.
38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.	38 En cambio, Josué, hijo de Nun, y Caleb, hijo de Yefunné, sobrevivieron de entre los hombres que habían ido a explorar la tierra.
39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.	39 Refirió Moisés estas palabras a todos los israelitas y se afligió mucho el pueblo.
40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.	40 Madrugaron y subieron a la cumbre del monte, diciendo: «Vamos a subir a ese lugar respecto del cual ha dicho Yahveh que hemos pecado.»
41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.	41 Moisés les respondió: «¿Por qué hacéis eso, pasando por encima de la orden de Yahveh? Eso no tendrá buen éxito.
42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.	42 No subáis, porque Yahveh no está en medio de vosotros, no vayáis a ser derrotados frente a vuestros enemigos.
43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.	43 Porque el amalecita y el cananeo están allí contra vosotros, y caeréis a filo de espada, pues después de haber abandonado vosotros a Yahveh, Yahveh no está con vosotros.»
44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.	44 Pero ellos se obstinaron en subir a la cumbre del monte. Ni el arca de la alianza de Yahveh, ni Moisés se movieron del campamento.
45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.	45 Bajaron los amalecitas y los cananeos que habitaban en aquella montaña, los batieron y los destrozaron hasta llegar a Jormá.
