Jeremiah 37

1 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.	1 El rey Sedecías, hijo de Josías –a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había constituido rey en el país de Judá– reinó en lugar de Conías, hijo de Joaquím.
2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.	2 Pero ni él, ni sus servidores, ni el pueblo del país escucharon las palabras que había dicho el Señor por medio del profeta Jeremías.
3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.	3 El rey Sedecías envió a Iucal, hijo de Selemías, y al sacerdote Sefanías, hijo de Maasías, para que dijeran al profeta Jeremías: «Ruega por nosotros al Señor, nuestro Dios».
4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.	4 Mientras tanto, Jeremías se desplazaba libremente en medio del pueblo, y aún no lo habían puesto en la cárcel.
5 Then Pharoah's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.	5 Además, las tropas del Faraón habían salido de Egipto, y los caldeos que sitiaban a Jerusalén, al oír la noticia, habían levantado el asedio.
6 Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,	6 La palabra del Señor llegó al profeta Jeremías, en estos términos:
7 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to inquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.	7 Así habla el Señor, el Dios de Israel: Esto es lo que le dirán al rey de Judá, que los envía a consultarme: El ejército del Faraón que salió en auxilio de ustedes, se volverá a su país, a Egipto.
8 And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.	8 Entonces los caldeos volverán, combatirán contra esta ciudad, la tomarán y la incendiarán.
9 Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.	9 Así habla el Señor: No se engañen a ustedes mismos, diciendo: «Seguro que los caldeos se irán lejos de nosotros». ¡Porque ellos no se irán!
10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.	10 Aun cuando derrotaran a todo el ejército de los caldeos que combaten contra ustedes, y no les quedaran más que algunos heridos, estos se levantarían cada uno en su carpa y prenderían fuego a esta ciudad.
11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,	11 Como el ejército de los caldeos se había alejado de Jerusalén por el avance de las tropas del Faraón,
12 Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.	12 Jeremías quiso salir de Jerusalén para ir al país de Benjamín, a fin de ocuparse allí de una repartición de bienes en medio de los suyos.
13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.	13 Y mientras estaba en la puerta de Benjamín, donde se encontraba un capitán de guardias llamado Jirías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Ananías, este detuvo al profeta Jeremías, diciendo: «¡Vas a pasarte a los caldeos!».
14 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.	14 Jeremías respondió: «¡Es falso! Yo no me paso del lado de los caldeos». Pero Jirías no lo escuchó; detuvo a Jeremías y lo llevó ante los jefes.
15 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.	15 Estos se irritaron contra Jeremías, lo golpearon y lo encarcelaron en la casa de Jonatán, el secretario, que habían convertido en prisión.
16 When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;	16 Así Jeremías fue a parar dentro de una cisterna abovedada y pasó allí mucho tiempo.
17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.	17 El rey Sedecías lo mandó atraer, y lo interrogó secretamente en su propia casa, diciendo: «¿Hay alguna palabra de parte del Señor?». «Sí», respondió Jeremías, y añadió: «Tú serás entregado en manos del rey de Babilonia».
18 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?	18 Luego Jeremías dijo al rey Sedecías: «¿Qué falta cometí contra ti, contra tus servidores y contra este pueblo, para que me hayan puesto en una prisión?
19 Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?	19 ¿Dónde están los profetas que les profetizaban, diciendo: El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra ustedes ni contra este país?
20 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.	20 Y ahora, ¡dígnate escuchar, rey, mi señor! Que mi súplica llegue hasta ti: ¡No me hagas volver a la casa de Jonatán, el secretario, no sea que muera allí!».
21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.	21 Entonces el rey Sedecías mandó poner bajo custodia a Jeremías en el patio de la guardia, y ordenó que le dieran cada día una rosca de pan de la calle de los Panaderos, hasta que no hubiera más pan en la ciudad. Y Jeremías permaneció en el patio de la guardia.
