Jeremiah 29

1 Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;	1 Estos son los términos de la carta que el profeta Jeremías envió desde Jerusalén al resto de los ancianos que estaban en el exilio, a los sacerdotes, a los profetas y a todo el pueblo que Nabucodonosor había deportado de Jerusalén a Babilonia,
2 (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)	2 después que partieron de Jerusalén el rey Jeconías, la reina mae, los eunucos, los príncipes de Judá y de Jerusalén, los herreros y los cerrajeros.
3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,	3 La carta fue llevada por Eleasá, hijo de Safán, y por Guemarías, hijo de Jilquías, a quienes Sedecías, rey de Judá, había enviado a Babilonia, para entrevistarse con Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia. Esa carta decía:
4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;	4 Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, a todos los desterrados que yo hice deportar de Jerusalén a Babilonia:
5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;	5 Construyan casas y habítenlas; planten huertas y coman sus frutos;
6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.	6 cásense y tengan hijos e hijas; casen a sus hijos y den a sus hijas como esposas, para que tengan hijos e hijas: multiplíquense allí y no disminuyan.
7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.	7 Busquen la prosperidad del país adonde yo los he deportado, y rueguen al Señor en favor de él, porque de su prosperidad depende la prosperidad de ustedes.
8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.	8 Porque así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: No se dejen engañar por los profetas que están en medio de ustedes, ni por sus adivinos; no escuchen los sueños que ellos sueñan,
9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.	9 porque ellos les profetizan falsamente en mi Nombre, sin que yo los haya enviado –oráculo del Señor–.
10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.	10 Porque así habla el Señor: Una vez que se hayan cumplido setenta años para Babilonia, yo los visitaré y realizaré en favor de ustedes mi promesa, haciéndolos volver a este lugar.
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.	11 Porque yo conozco muy bien los planes que tengo proyectados sobre ustedes –oráculo del Señor–: son planes de prosperidad y no de desgracia, para asegurarles un porvenir y una esperanza.
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.	12 Entonces, cuando ustedes me invoquen y vengan a suplicarme, yo los escucharé;
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.	13 cuando me busquen, me encontrarán, porque me buscarán de todo corazón,
14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.	14 y yo me dejaré encontrar por ustedes –oráculo del Señor–. Yo cambiaré la suerte de ustedes y los reuniré de todas las naciones y de todos los lugares adonde los expulsé –oráculo del Señor–. Yo cambiaré la suerte de ustedes y los reuniré de todas las naciones y de todos los lugares adonde los expulsé –oráculo del Señor– y los haré volver al lugar de donde los había deportado.
15 Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;	15 Porque ustedes dicen: «El Señor nos ha suscitado profetas en Babilonia»,
16 Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;	16 Porque así habla el Señor al rey que sienta en el trono de David y a todo el pueblo que habita en esta ciudad, a sus hermanos que no partieron con ustedes al exilio;
17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.	17 así habla el Señor de los ejércitos: Yo enviaré contra ellos la espada, el hambre y la peste; los haré semejantes a higos en mal estado, que de tan malos no se pueden comer;
18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:	18 los perseguiré con la espada, el hambre y la peste, y haré de ellos un objeto de terror para todos los reinos de la tierra, una imprecación y un objeto de horror, de estupor y de escarnio en todas las naciones adonde los expulsaré,
19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.	19 porque no han escuchado mis palabras –oráculo del Señor–, siendo así que yo les envié incansablemente a mis servidores los profetas. Pero ustedes no me han escuchado –oráculo del Señor–
20 Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:	20 En cuanto a ustedes, todos los deportados que yo envié de Jerusalén a Babilonia, escuchen la palabra del Señor.
21 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;	21 así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, acerca de Ajab, hijo de Colaías, y de Sedecías, hijo de Maasías, que profetizan para ustedes la mentira en mi Nombre: Yo los entrego en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, que los herirá a la vista de ustedes.
22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;	22 Y ellos darán origen a una maldición que repetirán todos los deportados de Judá en Babilonia: «¡Que el Señor te trate como a Sedecías y como a Ajab, a quienes el rey de Babilonia hizo asar en el fuego!»,
23 Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.	23 porque han cometido una locura en Israel, adulterando con la mujer del prójimo y pronunciando en mi Nombre palabras que yo no les había mandado. ¡Yo lo sé y soy testigo! –oráculo del Señor–.
24 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,	24 En cuanto a Semaías, de Nejelam, tú le dirás:
25 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,	25 Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Tú has enviado en tu nombre cartas a todo el pueblo que está en Jerusalén, al sacerdote Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, y a todos los sacerdotes, en estos términos:
26 The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.	26 «El Señor te ha constituido sacerdote en lugar del sacerdote Iehoiadá, para que vigiles en la Casa del Señor a cualquier exaltado que quiera pasar por profeta, y lo metas en el cepo y en el calabozo.
27 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?	27 ¿Por qué entonces no has reprendido a Jeremías de Anatot que profetiza para ustedes?
28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.	28 Porque él nos mandó decir a Babilonia: «Esto va para largo. Construyan casas, y habítenlas; planten huertas y coman sus frutos...»
29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.	29 El sacerdote Sofonías leyó esta carta en presencia del profeta Jeremías,
30 Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,	30 y la palabra del Señor llegó a Jeremías en estos términos:
31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:	31 Envía este mensaje a todos los deportados: «Así habla el Señor acerca de Semaías, de Nejelam: Porque Semaías les ha profetizado sin que yo lo haya enviado, y les ha infundido confianza por medio de una mentira,
32 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.	32 por eso, así habla el Señor: Yo voy a castigar a Semaías, de Nejelam, y a su descendencia: ninguno de los suyos habitará en medio de este pueblo ni verá el bien que yo haré a mi pueblo –oráculo del Señor– porque él ha profetizado la rebelión contra el Señor.
