1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.	1 Vaticinio a carico di Damasco. Ecco che Damasco cesserà di essere città, e resterà come un mucchio di pietre di una rovina.
2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.	2 Le città di Aroer saranno abbandonate ai greggi, che vi riposeranno senza essere scacciati da nessuno.
3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.	3 Efraim non avrà più appoggio e Damasco non avrà più regno, e sarà degli avanzi della Siria come della gloria dei figli d'Israele, — dice il Signore degli eserciti.
4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.	4 In quel giorno sarà umiliata la gloria di Giacobbe, e dimagrerà il grasso della sua carne.
5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.	5 Ed egli sarà come uno che raccoglie ciò che resta dopo la mietitura, e il suo braccio raccoglierà delle spighe ed egli sarà come chi cerca le spighe nella valle di Rafim.
6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.	6 In lui resteranno dei racimoli, come, dopo scosso l'ulivo, due o tre ulive alla punta di un ramo saran tutti i suoi frutti, o quattro o cinque sulla cima della pianta: — dice il Signore Dio d'Israele. —
7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.	7 In quel giorno l'uomo si volgerà al suo Fattore e i suoi occhi saran rivolti al Santo d'Israele.
8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.	8 E non si volgerà agli altari fatti dalle sue mani, non guarderà più alle cose fatte dalle sue dita, ai boschi, ai delubri.
9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.	9 In quel giorno le sue città forti saranno abbandonate come gli aratri e le biade furono abbandonate all'arrivo dei figli d'Israele, e tu resterai un deserto;
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:	10 perchè ti sei dimenticata di Dio tuo salvatore, non ti sei ricordata del tuo potente soccorso. Per ciò tu pianterai pianta fedele, e seminerai straniera semenza,
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.	11 Quando pianterai, sarà lambrusca, nel mattino fiorirà il tuo seminato: la messe sarà portata via nel giorno della raccolta, e ne avrai gran dolore.
12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!	12 Guai alla moltitudine dai molti popoli, come la moltitudine dei flutti muggenti, tumulto di folle, come tumulto di grandi acque.
13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.	13 I popoli rumoreggeranno come acque inondanti; ma lo sgriderà ed egli fuggirà lontano. E sarà disperso come sui monti la polvere al soffiar del vento, come turbine davanti alla tempesta.
14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.	14 Sul far della sera, ecco il turbamento, al mattino non sarà più. Questo è ciò che toccherà a coloro che ci han saccheggiati, la sorte dei nostri predatori.
