1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.	1 Oracolo su Damasco. Ecco, Damasco cesserà di essere una città e diventerà un cumulo di rovine.
2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.	2 Per sempre saranno abbandonate le sue città, diventeranno pascoli per le greggi, che vi si accovacceranno senza che qualcuno le spaventi.
3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.	3 Tolte saranno ad Efraim le fortificazioni e a Damasco il regno; il resto di Aram avrà una gloria simile a quella dei figli d'Israele. Oracolo del Signore degli eserciti.
4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.	4 In quel giorno la gloria di Giacobbe sfumerà e il grasso della sua carne sarà ridotto.
5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.	5 Sarà come quando il mietitore prende una bracciata di grano e il suo braccio taglia le spighe, come quando si raccolgono le spighe nella valle di Rèfaim.
6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.	6 Vi rimarranno solo racimoli, come quando si bacchiano le olive; due o tre bacche sulla cima dell'albero, quattro o cinque sui rami dell'albero. Oracolo del Signore, Dio d'Israele.
7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.	7 In quel giorno l'uomo volgerà lo sguardo al suo Creatore e i suoi occhi guarderanno al Santo d'Israele.
8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.	8 Egli non si volgerà più agli altari, opera delle sue mani; non vedrà più ciò che hanno eseguito le sue mani, i pali sacri e gli altari.
9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.	9 In quel giorno le tue città saranno abbandonate, come quelle che l'Eveo e l'Amorreo abbandonarono di fronte ai figli d'Israele e sarà una desolazione.
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:	10 Perché hai dimenticato Dio, tuo salvatore, e non ti sei ricordato della Rocca, tuo rifugio, per cui hai piantato delle piantagioni amene, e inserito dei germogli esotici.
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.	11 Di giorno fai crescere ciò che hai piantato e il mattino fai germogliare i tuoi semi, ma nel giorno della sventura svanisce la raccolta e il dolore è incurabile.
12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!	12 Guai, un tumulto di popoli numerosi, tumultuanti come il tumulto dei mari, rumore di popoli come il rumore travolgente di acque potenti.
13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.	13 I popoli rumoreggiano come il rumore di grandi acque, ma egli le minaccia e fuggono lontano, sospinte come la pula dei monti di fronte al vento, e come il vortice davanti al turbine.
14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.	14 Alla sera, ecco, c'è il terrore, prima ancora del mattino non c'è più nulla. Questo è il destino di chi ci preda, e la sorte di chi ci saccheggia.
