1 Then shall the righteous man stand in great boldness before the face of such as have afflicted him, and made no account of his labours.	1 Allora i giusti con gran costanza staran davanti a quelli, i quali li vessarono, e i quali depredarono le loro fatiche.
2 When they see it, they shall be troubled with terrible fear, and shall be amazed at the strangeness of his salvation, so far beyond all that they looked for.	2 E quegli a tal vista saranno agitati da orrenda paura, e della inaspettata repentina salvezza di quelli resteranno stupefatti.
3 And they repenting and groaning for anguish of spirit shall say within themselves, This was he, whom we had sometimes in derision, and a proverb of reproach:	3 E tocchi da pentimento, e sospirando affannosamente diranno dentro di se: Questi sono coloro, i quali noi una volta riguardammo come oggetto di derisione, ed esempio di obbrobrio.
4 We fools accounted his life madness, and his end to be without honour:	4 Noi insensati la vita loro tenemmo per una insensataggine, e come disonorato il lor fine:
5 How is he numbered among the children of God, and his lot is among the saints!	5 Ecco com'eglino sono contati tra' figliuoli di Dio, ed hanno parte co' santi.
6 Therefore have we erred from the way of truth, and the light of righteousness hath not shined unto us, and the sun of righteousness rose not upon us.	6 Dunque noi smarrimmo la via di verità, e non rifulse per noi la luce della giustizia, e non si levò per noi il sole di intelligenza.
7 We wearied ourselves in the way of wickedness and destruction: yea, we have gone through deserts, where there lay no way: but as for the way of the Lord, we have not known it.	7 Ci stancammo nella via di iniquità, e di perdizione, battemmo strade disastrose, e non conoscemmo la via del Signore.
8 What hath pride profited us? or what good hath riches with our vaunting brought us?	8 Che giovò a noi la superbia? E la ostentazione delle ricchezze qual prò fece a noi?
9 All those things are passed away like a shadow, and as a post that hasted by;	9 Tutte quelle cose si dileguaron con ombra, e come una passeggera novella.
10 And as a ship that passeth over the waves of the water, which when it is gone by, the trace thereof cannot be found, neither the pathway of the keel in the waves;	10 O come una nave valica le onde agitate, della quale vestigio non può trovarsi quand' ella è passata, né solco aperto dalla sua carena nei flutti:
11 Or as when a bird hath flown through the air, there is no token of her way to be found, but the light air being beaten with the stroke of her wings and parted with the violent noise and motion of them, is passed through, and therein afterwards no sign where she went is to be found;	11 O come uccello, che svolazza per l'aria, il quale verun segno non lascia de' suoi movimenti, ma solo lo scuotimento delle ale, colle quali batte l'aere leggero, e rompe con forza l'ambiente, per cui fa strada: egli dibatte l'ale, e sen vola, e dietro a se non lascia segno del suo viaggio,
12 Or like as when an arrow is shot at a mark, it parteth the air, which immediately cometh together again, so that a man cannot know where it went through:	12 O come scagliata, che è al destinato luogo la freccia subitamente in se stesso rientra l'aere diviso, onde passaggio di lei non conoscesi.
13 Even so we in like manner, as soon as we were born, began to draw to our end, and had no sign of virtue to shew; but were consumed in our own wickedness.	13 Così noi nati, che fummo, tosto cessammo di essere, e nessun segno di virtù potemmo mostrare; e ci consumammo nella nostra malvagità.
14 For the hope of the Godly is like dust that is blown away with the wind; like a thin froth that is driven away with the storm; like as the smoke which is dispersed here and there with a tempest, and passeth away as the remembrance of a guest that tarrieth but a day.	14 Così nell'inferno ragionano quei, che peccarono.
15 But the righteous live for evermore; their reward also is with the Lord, and the care of them is with the most High.	15 Imperocché la speranza dell'empio è come un bioccol di lana, che è straportato dal vento, e come la lieve spuma, che è dissipata dalla tempesta, e come la memoria di un forestiero, che passa, nè si ferma, che un giorno.
16 Therefore shall they receive a glorious kingdom, and a beautiful crown from the Lord's hand: for with his right hand shall he cover them, and with his arm shall he protect them.	16 Ma i giusti vireranno in etemo, e la loro ricompensa è nelle mani del Signore, e di essi ha cura l'Altissimo.
17 He shall take to him his jealousy for complete armour, and make the creature his weapon for the revenge of his enemies.	17 Quindi essi otterranno un regno illustre, e un bel diadema dalla mano del Signore; perocché ei li coprirà colla sua destra, e col suo braccio santo li difenderà.
18 He shall put on righteousness as a breastplate, and true judgment instead of an helmet.	18 Il suo zelo imbraccerà le armi, e armerà le creature per far vendetta dei nemici.
19 He shall take holiness for an invincible shield.	19 Si rivestirà di giustizia in luogo di corazza, e in vece di cimiero prenderà l'infallibile giudizio.
20 His severe wrath shall he sharpen for a sword, and the world shall fight with him against the unwise.	20 Darà di mano allo scudo insupera bile, che è l'equità.
21 Then shall the right aiming thunderbolts go abroad; and from the clouds, as from a well drawn bow, shall they fly to the mark.	21 Dell'ira inflessibile si farà (Dio) acuta lancia, e con lui combatterà l'universo contro gli insensati.
22 And hailstones full of wrath shall be cast as out of a stone bow, and the water of the sea shall rage against them, and the floods shall cruelly drown them.	22 Partiranno per retta via le scagliate folgora, e dalle nubi, come da ben curvato arco scoccate al destinato luogo sen voleranno.
23 Yea, a mighty wind shall stand up against them, and like a storm shall blow them away: thus iniquity shall lay waste the whole earth, and ill dealing shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty.	23 E dense grandini pioverà l'ira (di Dio) a guisa di macchina, che getti pietre, e contro di loro ribolliranno le acque del mare, e i fiumi inonderanno con violenza.
	24 Contro di essi si leverà un vento possente, e li getterà per aria come un turbine, e la loro iniquità ridurrà un diserto tutta la terra, e i troni de' potentati dalla malvagità saranno abbattuti.
