Proverbs 21

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.	1 Comme l'eau courante, le coeur du roi est aux mains de Yahvé qui l'incline partout à son gré.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.	2 Toutes les voies de l'homme sont droites à ses yeux, mais Yahvé pèse les coeurs.
3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.	3 Pratiquer la justice et le droit vaut, pour Yahvé, mieux que le sacrifice.
4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.	4 Regards altiers, coeur dilaté, flambeau des méchants, ce n'est que péché.
5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.	5 Les projets de l'homme diligent ne sont que profit; pour qui se presse, rien que la disette!
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.	6 Amasser des trésors par une langue menteuse: vanité fugitive de qui cherche la mort.
7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.	7 La violence des méchants les emporte, car ils refusent de pratiquer le droit.
8 The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.	8 Tortueuse est la voie de l'homme criminel, mais de l'innocent l'action est droite.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.	9 Mieux vaut habiter à l'angle d'un toit que faire maison commune avec une femme querelleuse.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.	10 L'âme du méchant souhaite le mal, à ses yeux le prochain ne trouve pas grâce.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.	11 Quand on châtie le railleur, le niais s'assagit; quand on instruit le sage, il accueille le savoir.
12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.	12 Le Juste considère la maison du méchant: il précipite les méchants dans le malheur.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.	13 Qui ferme l'oreille à l'appel du faible criera, lui aussi, sans qu'on lui réponde.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.	14 Un don secret apaise la colère, un présent sous le manteau, la fureur violente.
15 It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.	15 C'est une joie pour le juste de pratiquer le droit, mais c'est l'épouvante pour les malfaisants.
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.	16 Qui s'égare loin du chemin de la prudence dans l'assemblée des Ombres reposera.
17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.	17 Restera indigent qui aime le plaisir, point ne s'enrichira qui aime vin et bonne chère.
18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.	18 Le méchant est la rançon du juste; à la place des hommes droits: le traître.
19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.	19 Mieux vaut habiter en un pays désert qu'avec une femme querelleuse et chagrine.
20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.	20 Il y a un trésor précieux et de l'huile dans la demeure du sage, mais le sot les engloutit.
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.	21 Qui poursuit la justice et la miséricorde trouvera vie, justice et honneur.
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.	22 Le sage escalade la ville des guerriers, il abat le rempart dans lequel elle se confiait.
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.	23 A garder sa bouche et sa langue, on se garde soi-même de l'angoisse.
24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.	24 Insolent, hautain, son nom est "railleur!" il agit dans l'excès de son insolence.
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.	25 Le désir du paresseux cause sa mort, car ses mains refusent le travail.
26 He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.	26 Tout le jour l'impie est en proie au désir, le juste donne sans jamais refuser.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?	27 Le sacrifice des méchants est une abomination, surtout s'ils l'offrent avec malice.
28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.	28 Le faux témoin périra, mais qui sait écouter parlera à jamais.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.	29 Le méchant se donne un air assuré, l'homme droit affermit sa propre conduite.
30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.	30 Il n'y a ni sagesse, ni intelligence, ni conseil devant Yahvé.
31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.	31 On équipe le cheval pour le jour du combat, mais c'est à Yahvé qu'appartient la victoire.
