1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.	1 Les pensées du roi comme l’eau coulent où Yahvé les dirige.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.	2 Quel que soit le chemin qu’on a pris, on le croit bon, mais c’est Yahvé qui pèse les cœurs.
3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.	3 La justice et le droit mis en pratique, ont plus de valeur pour Yahvé que les sacrifices.
4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.	4 Les yeux méprisants, le cœur hautain: tout ce qui reluit chez les méchants n’est que péché.
5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.	5 Les projets de celui qui s’active lui rapportent, mais pour l’étourdi il n’y a que déficit.
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.	6 S’amasser un trésor à force de mensonges, c’est la brève illusion de gens qui vont à la mort.
7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.	7 La violence des méchants les emportera, car ils refusent de pratiquer la justice.
8 The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.	8 Le criminel suit des chemins tortueux, tandis que l’homme intègre pratique la droiture.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.	9 Mieux vaut rester dans un coin de grenier que de partager sa maison avec une femme querelleuse.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.	10 Le méchant ne souhaite que le mal, personne ne trouve grâce à ses yeux.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.	11 Punis le moqueur, et le naïf deviendra sage, instruis le sage, la leçon lui sera profitable.
12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.	12 Le juste surveille la maison du méchant, il précipite les méchants dans le malheur.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.	13 Qui fait sourde oreille au cri du malheureux, lui aussi appellera sans qu’on lui réponde.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.	14 Un cadeau en secret apaise la colère, un présent détourne la fureur violente.
15 It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.	15 Quand on fait régner la justice, le juste est dans la joie, mais c’est le désastre pour les malfaisants.
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.	16 Qui s’écarte du chemin de la prudence, bientôt reposera parmi les morts.
17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.	17 Qui aime le plaisir est voué à l’indigence, on ne s’enrichit pas en courant après le vin et les parfums.
18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.	18 Le méchant paiera pour le juste; c’est le traître qui sera frappé, et non l’homme droit.
19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.	19 Mieux vaut habiter dans un coin désert, qu’avec une femme querelleuse et maussade.
20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.	20 Le sage a chez lui de l’huile et des réserves, le sot ne saurait que les gaspiller.
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.	21 Qui se soucie de justice et de bonté trouvera vie, bien-être et considération.
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.	22 Le sage s’empare d’une ville bien défendue, il renverse les murailles qui la rassuraient.
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.	23 Qui met une garde à sa bouche et sa langue, se garde de bien des tourments.
24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.	24 Il est arrogant et insolent: “Je me moque de tout!” Ses actes sont le débordement de son orgueil.
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.	25 Les désirs du paresseux ne peuvent que le tuer, car ses mains se refusent à travailler.
26 He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.	26 Tout le jour l’impie convoite, tandis que le juste donne sans épargner.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?	27 Yahvé a en horreur le sacrifice des méchants, surtout s’ils l’offrent dans une mauvaise intention.
28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.	28 Le faux témoin sera confondu, mais l’homme qui sait écouter aura le dernier mot.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.	29 Le méchant cherche à paraître assuré, l’homme honnête veut que sa conduite soit assurée.
30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.	30 Il n’y a pas de sagesse, d’intelligence ou de prudence qui tienne devant Yahvé.
31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.	31 On équipe le cheval pour le jour du combat, mais la victoire dépend de Yahvé.
