1 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.	1 Giosafat s'addormentò coi suoi padri, fu sepolto con loro nella città di David e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Ioram.
2 And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.	2 Ioram ebbe per fratelli i figli di Giosafat, Azaria, Iahiel, Zaccaria, Azaria, Michele e Safatia: tutti figli di Giosafat re di Giuda-
3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn.	3 Il loro padre diede loro molti doni in argento e oro e rendite e delle città fortissime in Giuda, ma il regno lo diede a Ioram, che era il primogenito.
4 Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.	4 Ioram prese adunque possesso del regno di suo padre e quan­do si fu consolidato, uccise di spada i suoi fratelli e alcuni dei principi d'Israele.
5 Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.	5 Ioram aveva trentadue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme.
6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.	6 Egli camminò nelle vie dei re d'Israele, come aveva fatto la casa d'Acab, di cui aveva in moglie la figlia, e fece il male nel cospetto del Signore.
7 Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.	7 Tuttavia il Signore non volle disperdere la casa di David, a motivo dell'alleanza che aveva fatta con lui, e per aver promesso di dare a lui e ai suoi figli una lampada per sempre.
8 In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.	8 In quei giorni Edom si ribellò, per non star più soggetto a Giuda, e si creò un re.
9 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots.	9 Allora Iorano andato là coi suoi capi e con tutta la cavalleria che aveva con sè, si levò di notte e percosse Edom, che l'aveva circondato, e tutti i capi della sua cavalleria.
10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.	10 Ciò non ostante Edom si ribellò in modo da non essere più soggetto a Giuda fino al presente. In quel tempo anche Lobna si ribellò e non volle star più sotto di lui, perchè egli aveva abbandonato il Signore Dio dei suoi padri.
11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.	11 Egli inoltre fece degli alti luoghi nelle città di Giuda, e fece fornicare gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e prevaricare Giuda.
12 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,	12 Gli fu portata una lettera del profeta Elia nella quale stava scritto: « Queste cose dice il Si­gnore Dio di David tuo padre: Perchè tu non hai battute le vie di Giosafat tuo padre, nè le vie di Asa re di Giuda,
13 But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself:	13 ma sei andato per la strada dei re di Israele, e hai fatto fornicare Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, imitando la fornicazione della casa di Acab, e di più hai uccisi i tuoi fratelli, della famiglia di tuo padre e migliori di te.
14 Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:	14 Ecco che il Signore percuoterà te, il tuo popolo, i tuoi figli, le tue mogli e tutto ciò che ti appartiene, con gran flagello,
15 And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.	15 e tu ti ammalerai di orribile malattia del tuo ventre finché dal tuo ventre, a poco a poco, giorno per giorno, non escan fuori le tue viscere ».
16 Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:	16 Il Signore allora suscitò contro Ioram lo spirito dei Filistei e degli Arabi che confinano cogli Etiopi;
17 And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.	17 ed essi, saliti nella terra di Giuda, la devastarono, e saccheggiarono tutto quello che trovarono nella casa del re, anche i suoi figli e le sue mogli: non gli rimase altro figlio se non Ioacaz, che era il più piccolo d'età.
18 And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.	18 Di più il Signore lo percosse d'una malattia incurabile d'intestini.
19 And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.	19 Così coll'andar dei giorni e delle stagioni, in capo a due anni, egli distrutto da una malattia sì lunga per cui gettava fuori anche gl'intestini, cessò di soffrire e di vivere. Morto che fu di questa crudele malattia, il popolo non gli fece funerali, nè gli bruciò aromi, come aveva fatto ai suoi maggiori.
20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.	20 Egli aveva trentadue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme. Non avendo camminato rettamente, lo seppellirono nella cit­tà di David, ma non nel sepolcro dei re.
