1 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.	1 Giosafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto insieme con loro nella Città di Davide. Al suo posto regnò Ioram, suo figlio.
2 And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.	2 Egli aveva dei fratelli, figli di Giosafat: Azaria, Iechièl, Zaccaria, Azariau, Michele e Sefatia: tutti questi erano figli di Giosafat, re d'Israele.
3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn.	3 Il padre fece ad essi ricche donazioni in argento, oro, oggetti preziosi, insieme a città fortificate in Giuda; il regno invece lo diede a Ioram, perché egli era il primogenito.
4 Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.	4 Ma quando Ioram ebbe preso possesso del regno del padre e si rafforzò, uccise di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e anche alcuni capi d'Israele.
5 Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.	5 Quando divenne re, Ioram aveva trentadue anni, regnò in Gerusalemme otto anni.
6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.	6 Seguì la condotta dei re d'Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab; egli infatti aveva per moglie una figlia di Acab. Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore.
7 Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.	7 Tuttavia il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide, a causa dell'alleanza che aveva concluso con Davide e in conformità alla promessa fattagli di concedere per sempre una lampada a lui e ai suoi figli.
8 In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.	8 Durante il suo regno Edom si ribellò al dominio di Giuda e si costituì un re.
9 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots.	9 Allora Ioram con i suoi capi e con tutti i suoi carri passò la frontiera e, assalendoli di notte, sconfisse gli Edomiti che avevano accerchiato lui e i comandanti dei carri.
10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.	10 Ma Edom si rese indipendente dal dominio di Giuda fino al giorno d'oggi. In quel tempo anche Libna si ribellò al suo dominio, perché Ioram aveva abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri.
11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.	11 Anch'egli poi eresse delle alture sui monti di Giuda, spingendo alla prostituzione gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e seducendo Giuda.
12 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,	12 Ma gli pervenne uno scritto da parte del profeta Elia che diceva: "Così parla il Signore, Dio di Davide, tuo padre: "Poiché non hai seguito la condotta di Giosafat, tuo padre, né la condotta di Asa, re di Giuda,
13 But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself:	13 ma hai seguito piuttosto la condotta dei re d'Israele e hai indotto alla prostituzione Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, come ha fatto la casa di Acab, inoltre hai ucciso i tuoi fratelli, quelli della famiglia di tuo padre, che erano migliori di te,
14 Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:	14 ecco che il Signore sta per colpire con un grande disastro il tuo popolo, i tuoi figli, le tue mogli e tutto ciò che ti appartiene.
15 And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.	15 Quanto a te, sarai colpito da gravi malattie, una malattia intestinale tale che, per essa, le tue viscere ti usciranno fuori in due giorni".
16 Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:	16 Il Signore eccitò contro Ioram l'ostilità dei Filistei e degli Arabi che abitano a fianco degli Etiopi.
17 And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.	17 Questi marciarono contro Giuda e, dopo averlo invaso, catturarono tutti i beni che si trovavano nella casa reale, compresi i figli e le mogli del re. Non gli rimase più alcun figlio ad eccezione di Acazia, il più piccolo.
18 And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.	18 Dopo tutto ciò il Signore lo colpì con una malattia incurabile agli intestini.
19 And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.	19 Andò avanti così per due anni; alla fine del secondo anno gli uscirono fuori le viscere per effetto della malattia e morì in mezzo ad atroci sofferenze. Il suo popolo non gli fece un rogo, come si era fatto per i suoi padri.
20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.	20 Quando divenne re, aveva trentadue anni; regnò in Gerusalemme per otto anni; se ne andò senza lasciare rimpianto e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.
