1 In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.	1 Amasias fils de Joas, roi de Juda, commença à régner la deuxième année de Joas fils de Yoacaz, roi d’Israël.
2 He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.	2 Il avait 25 ans lorsqu’il monta sur le trône et il régna 29 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s’appelait Yohaddan, elle était de Jérusalem.
3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.	3 Il fit ce qui est juste aux yeux de Yahvé, mais cependant pas comme son père David. En toute chose il se comporta comme son père Joas.
4 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.	4 Les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas, le peuple continua d’offrir des sacrifices et de faire fumer de l’encens sur les Hauts-Lieux.
5 And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.	5 Dès qu’Amasias fut maître de la situation dans son royaume, il mit à mort ceux de ses serviteurs qui avaient tué le roi son père,
6 But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.	6 mais il ne mit pas à mort les fils des assassins, selon ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la Loi de Moïse. Yahvé, en effet, a donné ce commandement: “Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les fils et les fils ne seront pas mis à mort pour les pères: chacun sera mis à mort pour son propre péché.”
7 He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.	7 C’est lui qui battit les Édomites dans la vallée du Sel et qui s’empara de la Roche au prix d’un dur combat; il lui donna le nom de Yoktéel, qu’elle porte jusqu’à ce jour.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.	8 Alors Amasias envoya des messagers à Joas fils de Yoacaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d’Israël: “Viens te mesurer avec moi”, lui dit-il.
9 And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.	9 Joas roi d’Israël fit répondre à Amasias roi de Juda: “L’épine du Liban envoya dire au cèdre du Liban: ‘Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils.’ Mais la bête sauvage du Liban passa et écrasa l’épine.
10 Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?	10 Tu as bien battu Édom et tu en es tout fier. Eh bien, glorifie-toi et reste chez toi. Pourquoi attirer le malheur et la mort sur toi et sur Juda avec toi?”
11 But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.	11 Mais Amasias n’écouta pas. Alors Joas, roi d’Israël, s’avança et ils s’affrontèrent à Beth-Chémech, qui est en Juda.
12 And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.	12 Juda fut battu par Israël et tous s’enfuirent à leurs tentes.
13 And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.	13 Joas roi d’Israël fit prisonnier Amasias, roi de Juda, fils de Joas, fils d’Okozias, à Beth-Chémech et le ramena à Jérusalem. Il abattit le rempart de Jérusalem sur plus de 100 mètres, depuis la porte d’Éphraïm jusqu’à la porte de l’Angle;
14 And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.	14 il prit tout l’or et l’argent, tous les objets qui se trouvaient dans la Maison de Yahvé et dans le trésor du palais royal, ainsi que des otages; puis il retourna à Samarie.
15 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?	15 Le reste des actes de Joas, ce qu’il a fait, sa bravoure, comment il combattit contre Amasias, roi de Juda, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le Livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?
16 And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.	16 Joas se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël; Jéroboam, son fils, régna à sa place.
17 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.	17 Après la mort de Joas fils de Yoacaz, roi d’Israël, Amasias fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut encore 15 ans.
18 And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?	18 Le reste des actes d’Amasias, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le Livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
19 Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.	19 On complota contre lui à Jérusalem et il s’enfuit à Lakish, mais on le poursuivit jusqu’à Lakish, et là il fut mis à mort.
20 And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.	20 On le ramena avec des chevaux et on l’enterra à Jérusalem avec ses pères, dans la Cité de David.
21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.	21 Tout le peuple de Juda prit Azarias - il n’avait alors que 16 ans - et on le fit roi à la place de son père Amasias.
22 He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.	22 Il rebâtit Élat et la rendit à Juda après que le roi se fut couché avec ses pères.
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.	23 En la quinzième année d’Amasias fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam fils de Joas, roi d’Israël, devint roi à Samarie. Il régna 41 ans.
24 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.	24 Il fit ce qui est mal au regard de Yahvé, il ne se détourna pas de tous les péchés dans lesquels Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, avait entraîné Israël.
25 He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher.	25 Mais c’est lui qui rétablit les frontières d’Israël depuis l’Entrée-de-Hamat jusqu’à la mer de la Araba, comme Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, l’avait dit par la bouche de son serviteur, le prophète Jonas, fils d’Amittaï, qui était de Gat-Héfer.
26 For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.	26 En effet, Yahvé avait vu la très grande misère d’Israël: il n’y avait plus personne, ni esclave, ni homme libre, capable de secourir Israël.
27 And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.	27 Yahvé n’avait pas décidé d’effacer le nom d’Israël de dessous les cieux, et il le délivra par la main de Jéroboam, fils de Joas.
28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?	28 Le reste des actes de Jéroboam, tout ce qu’il a fait et sa bravoure, comment il combattit et redonna Damas et Hamat à Israël, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le Livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?
29 And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.	29 Jéroboam se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël; Zacharie, son fils, régna à sa place.
