Genesis 39

1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.	1 Giuseppe fu condotto in Egitto, e Potifar, eunuco del faraone e capo-cuoco, un egiziano, lo comperò da quegli Ismaeliti che l'avevano fatto scendere laggiù.
2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.	2 Il Signore fu con Giuseppe, così che questi divenne un uomo a cui tutto riusciva, e rimase nella casa dell'egiziano, suo padrone.
3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.	3 Il suo padrone si accorse che il Signore era con lui e che tutto quello ch'egli faceva, il Signore lo faceva prosperare nelle sue mani.
4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.	4 Onde Giuseppe trovò grazia agli occhi di lui e divenne suo servitore personale; anzi egli lo nominò soprintendente della sua casa e gli diede in mano tutto il suo avere.
5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.	5 E da quando l'ebbe fatto soprintendente della sua casa e di tutto il suo avere, il Signore benedisse la casa dell'egiziano per causa di Giuseppe e la benedizione del Signore fu su tutto quello che aveva, in casa e nella campagna.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.	6 Così egli lasciò tutto il suo avere nelle mani di Giuseppe e non gli chiedeva conto di nulla, se non del cibo che mangiava. Or Giuseppe era bello di forma e bello di aspetto.
7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.	7 Dopo queste cose, avvenne che la moglie del suo padrone mise gli occhi su Giuseppe e gli disse: "Giaci con me!".
8 But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;	8 Ma egli si rifiutò e disse alla moglie del suo padrone: "Vedi, il mio signore non mi chiede conto di quanto vi sia nella sua casa e tutto il suo avere me lo ha dato in mano.
9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?	9 Egli stesso non è più grande di me in questa casa; e non mi ha proibito nulla, se non te, per il fatto che tu sei sua moglie. E come potrei fare questo grande male e peccare contro Dio?".
10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.	10 E benché ogni giorno essa ne parlasse a Giuseppe, egli non acconsentì a giacere accanto a lei, a darsi a lei.
11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.	11 Or un certo giorno egli entrò in casa per fare il suo lavoro, mentre non vi era in casa nessuno dei domestici.
12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.	12 Essa lo afferrò per la veste, dicendo: "Giaci con me!". Ma egli le abbandonò tra le mani la sua veste, fuggì ed uscì fuori.
13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,	13 Allora essa, vedendo che egli le aveva lasciato tra le mani la sua veste ed era fuggito fuori,
14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:	14 chiamò i suoi domestici e disse loro: "Guardate, ci ha condotto in casa un ebreo, per scherzare con noi! E' venuto da me per giacere con me, ma io ho chiamato a gran voce.
15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.	15 Allora lui, appena ha sentito che alzavo la voce e chiamavo, ha abbandonato la sua veste presso di me ed è fuggito fuori".
16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.	16 Poi essa tenne accanto a sé la veste di lui, finché il suo signore non fu tornato a casa.
17 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:	17 Allora gli disse le stesse cose in questi termini: "E' venuto da me quel servo ebreo, che tu ci hai condotto in casa, per scherzare con me;
18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.	18 ma come io ho alzato la voce e ho gridato, ha abbandonato la sua veste presso di me ed è fuggito fuori".
19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.	19 Quando il padrone udì le parole di sua moglie che gli parlava in questi termini: "E' proprio così che mi ha fatto il tuo servo!", si accese d'ira.
20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.	20 E il padrone di Giuseppe lo prese e lo mise in prigione nel luogo dove il re detiene i carcerati. Così egli rimase là in prigione.
21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.	21 Ma il Signore fu con Giuseppe, e diffuse su lui la misericordia, facendogli trovare grazia agli occhi del direttore del carcere.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.	22 Così il direttore del carcere affidò a Giuseppe tutti i detenuti che erano nella prigione, e tutto quello che si faceva là dentro, lo faceva lui.
23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.	23 Il direttore del carcere non badava più a nulla di quanto era affidato a lui, perché il Signore era con lui e quello ch'egli faceva, il Signore glielo faceva prosperare.
