KING JAMES BIBLEBIBLIA
And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.1 José fue bajado a Egipto, y le compró un egipcio, Putifar, eunuco de Faraón y jefe de los guardias; le compró a los ismaelitas que le habían bajado allá.
And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.2 Yahveh asistió a José, que llegó a ser un hombre afortunado, mientras estaba en casa de su señor egipcio.
And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.3 Este echó de ver que Yahveh estaba con él y que Yahveh hacía prosperar todas sus empresas.
And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.4 José ganó su favor y entró a su servicio, y su señor le puso al frente de su casa y todo cuanto tenía se lo confió.
And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.5 Desde entonces le encargó de toda su casa y de todo lo que tenía, y Yahveh bendijo la casa del egipcio en atención a José, extendiéndose la bendición de Yahveh a todo cuanto tenía en casa y en el campo.
And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.6 El mismo dejó todo lo suyo en manos de José y, con él, ya no se ocupó personalmente de nada más que del pan que comía. José era apuesto y de buena presencia.
And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.7 Tiempo más tarde sucedió que la mujer de su señor se fijó en José y le dijo: «Acuéstate conmigo.»
But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;8 Pero él rehusó y dijo a la mujer de su señor: «He aquí que mi señor no me controla nada de lo que hay en su casa, y todo cuanto tiene me lo ha confiado.
There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?9 ¿No es él mayor que y o en esta casa? Y sin embargo, no me ha vedado absolutamente nada más que a ti misma, por cuanto eres su mujer. ¿Cómo entonces voy a hacer este mal tan grande, pecando contra Dios?»
And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.10 Ella insistía en hablar a José día tras día, pero él no accedió a acostarse y estar con ella.
And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.11 Hasta que cierto día entró él en la casa para hacer su trabajo y coincidió que no había ninguno de casa allí dentro.
And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.12 Entonces ella le asió de la ropa diciéndole: «Acuéstate conmigo.» Pero él, dejándole su ropa en la mano, salió huyendo afuera.
And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,13 Entonces ella, al ver que había dejado la ropa en su mano, huyó también afuera y gritó a los de su casa diciéndoles:
That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:14 - «¡Mirad! Nos ha traído un hebreo para que se burle de nosotros. Ha venido a mí para acostarse conmigo, poro yo he gritado,
And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.15 y al oírme levantar la voz y gritar, ha dejado su vestido a mi lado y ha salido huyendo afuera.»
And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.16 Ella depositó junto a sí el vestido de él, hasta que vino su señor a casa,
And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:17 y le repitió esto mismo: «Ha entrado a mí ese siervo hebreo que tú nos trajiste, para abusar de mí;
And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.18 pero yo he levantado la voz y he gritado, y entonces ha dejado él su ropa junto a mí y ha huido afuera.»
And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.19 Al oír su señor las palabras que acababa de decirle su mujer: - «Esto ha hecho conmigo tu siervo» - se encolerizó.
And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.20 Y el señor de José le prendió y le puso en la cárcel, en el sitio donde estaban los detenidos del rey. Allí se quedó en presidio.
But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.21 Pero Yahveh asistió a José y le cubrió con su misericordia, haciendo que se ganase el favor del alcaide.
And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.22 El alcaide confió a José todos los detenidos que había en la cárcel; todo lo que se hacía allí, lo hacía él.
The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.23 El alcaide no controlaba absolutamente nada de cuanto administraba José, ya que Yahveh le asistía y hacía prosperar todas sus empresas.
