KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Miután Jézus ezeket elmondta, kiment tanítványaival a Kedron patakon túlra, ahol volt egy kert; oda ment be ő és a tanítványai.	1 After he had said al this, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron valley where there was agarden into which he went with his disciples.
2 Ismerte azt a helyet Júdás is, aki elárulta őt, mert Jézus gyakran járt oda tanítványaival.	2 Judas the traitor knew the place also, since Jesus had often met his disciples there,
3 Júdás tehát, miután magához vett egy szakasz katonát, s a főpapoktól és a farizeusoktól poroszlókat, odament lámpásokkal, fáklyákkal és fegyverekkel.	3 so Judas brought the cohort to this place together with guards sent by the chief priests and thePharisees, al with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 Jézus pedig, aki tudott mindent, ami várt rá, eléjük ment, és megkérdezte tőlük: »Kit kerestek?«	4 Knowing everything that was to happen to him, Jesus came forward and said, 'Who are you lookingfor?'
5 Azt felelték neki: »A Názáreti Jézust.« Ő azt mondta nekik: »Én vagyok.« Ott állt velük Júdás is, aki elárulta őt.	5 They answered, 'Jesus the Nazarene.' He said, 'I am he.' Now Judas the traitor was standing amongthem.
6 Amikor azt mondta nekik: »Én vagyok«, meghátráltak és a földre estek.	6 When Jesus said to them, 'I am he,' they moved back and fell on the ground.
7 Erre ismét megkérdezte őket: »Kit kerestek?« Azok pedig azt mondták: »A Názáreti Jézust.«	7 He asked them a second time, 'Who are you looking for?' They said, 'Jesus the Nazarene.'
8 Jézus megismételte: »Mondtam nektek: Én vagyok! Ha tehát engem kerestek, hagyjátok ezeket elmenni!«	8 Jesus replied, 'I have told you that I am he. If I am the one you are looking for, let these others go.'
9 Be kellett teljesednie az igének, amelyet mondott: »Akiket nekem adtál, azok közül senkit sem vesztettem el.«	9 This was to fulfil the words he had spoken, 'Not one of those you gave me have I lost.'
10 Mivel Simon Péternek volt egy kardja, kirántotta azt, lesújtott a főpap szolgájára, és levágta a jobb fülét. A szolga neve Malkusz volt.	10 Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear.The servant's name was Malchus.
11 Jézus erre azt mondta Péternek: »Tedd a hüvelyébe kardodat! Ne igyam ki a poharat, amelyet az Atya nekem adott?«	11 Jesus said to Peter, 'Put your sword back in its scabbard; am I not to drink the cup that the Fatherhas given me?'
12 Ekkor a szakasz, a parancsnok és a zsidók poroszlói elfogták Jézust, és megkötözték őt.	12 The cohort and its tribune and the Jewish guards seized Jesus and bound him.
13 Először Annáshoz vitték, ő ugyanis apósa volt Kaifásnak, aki főpap volt abban az esztendőben.	13 They took him first to Annas, because Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priestthat year.
14 Kaifás volt az, aki azt a tanácsot adta a zsidóknak: »Jobb, ha egy ember hal meg a népért«.	14 It was Caiaphas who had counsel ed the Jews, 'It is better for one man to die for the people.'
15 Simon Péter és egy másik tanítvány követte Jézust. Ez a tanítvány ismerőse volt a főpapnak, és bement Jézussal a főpap udvarába,	15 Simon Peter, with another disciple, fol owed Jesus. This disciple, who was known to the high priest,went with Jesus into the high priest's palace,
16 Péter pedig az ajtón kívül állt. Kiment tehát az a másik tanítvány, aki ismerőse volt a főpapnak, szólt az ajtónálló szolgálónak, és bevezette Pétert.	16 but Peter stayed outside the door. So the other disciple, the one known to the high priest, went out,spoke to the door-keeper and brought Peter in.
17 Akkor az ajtónálló szolgáló azt mondta Péternek: »Nem vagy te is ennek az embernek a tanítványai közül való?« Ő azt felelte: »Nem vagyok!«	17 The girl on duty at the door said to Peter, 'Aren't you another of that man's disciples?' He answered, 'Iam not.'
18 Ott álltak a szolgák és poroszlók, akik tüzet raktak, mert hideg volt, és melegedtek. Péter is ott állt velük, és melegedett.	18 Now it was cold, and the servants and guards had lit a charcoal fire and were standing there warming themselves; so Peter stood there too, warming himself with the others.
19 A főpap eközben tanítványairól és tanításáról kérdezte Jézust.	19 The high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.
20 Jézus azt felelte neki: »Én nyíltan beszéltem a világnak, mindig a zsinagógában tanítottam és a templomban, ahova a zsidók mindnyájan összegyűlnek, és titokban semmit sem mondtam.	20 Jesus answered, 'I have spoken openly for al the world to hear; I have always taught in thesynagogue and in the Temple where al the Jews meet together; I have said nothing in secret.
21 Miért kérdezel engem? Kérdezd azokat, akik hallották, mit beszéltem nekik. Íme, ők tudják, mit mondtam.«	21 Why ask me? Ask my hearers what I taught; they know what I said.'
22 Amikor ezeket mondta, az ott álló poroszlók egyike arcul ütötte Jézust, és így szólt: »Így felelsz a főpapnak?«	22 At these words, one of the guards standing by gave Jesus a slap in the face, saying, 'Is that the wayyou answer the high priest?'
23 Jézus azt felelte neki: »Ha rosszul szóltam, bizonyítsd be a rosszat, ha pedig jól, miért ütsz engem?«	23 Jesus replied, 'If there is some offence in what I said, point it out; but if not, why do you strike me?'
24 Akkor Annás elküldte őt megkötözve Kaifás főpaphoz.	24 Then Annas sent him, bound, to Caiaphas the high priest.
25 Simon Péter pedig ott állt és melegedett. Egyesek azt mondták neki: »Ugye te is az ő tanítványai közül való vagy?« Ő azonban letagadta: »Nem vagyok!«	25 As Simon Peter stood there warming himself, someone said to him, 'Aren't you another of hisdisciples?' He denied it saying, 'I am not.'
26 A főpap egyik szolgája, rokona annak, akinek Péter levágta a fülét, így szólt: »Nem téged láttalak vele a kertben?«	26 One of the high priest's servants, a relation of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, 'Didn't I seeyou in the garden with him?'
27 Péter pedig ismét tagadta, és nyomban megszólalt a kakas.	27 Again Peter denied it; and at once a cock crowed.
28 Jézust Kaifástól a helytartóságra vezették. Kora reggel volt. Ők nem mentek be a helytartóságra, hogy tisztátalanná ne váljanak, és megehessék a húsvéti bárányt.	28 They then led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the Praetorium. It was now morning. They did notgo into the Praetorium themselves to avoid becoming defiled and unable to eat the Passover.
29 Ezért Pilátus ment ki hozzájuk, és megkérdezte: »Miféle vádat hoztok fel ez ellen az ember ellen?«	29 So Pilate came outside to them and said, 'What charge do you bring against this man?' They replied,
30 Azt felelték neki: »Ha nem volna gonosztevő, nem adtuk volna őt a kezedbe.«	30 'If he were not a criminal, we should not have handed him over to you.'
31 Erre Pilátus azt mondta nekik: »Vegyétek át ti őt, és ítéljétek el a törvényetek szerint.« A zsidók azt felelték neki: »Nekünk senkit sem szabad megölnünk.«	31 Pilate said, 'Take him yourselves, and try him by your own Law.' The Jews answered, 'We are notal owed to put anyone to death.'
32 Ez azért történt, hogy beteljesedjék Jézus szava, amelyet mondott, jelezve, hogy milyen halállal fog meghalni.	32 This was to fulfil the words Jesus had spoken indicating the way he was going to die.
33 Ismét bement tehát Pilátus a helytartóságra, hívatta Jézust, és megkérdezte őt: »Te vagy-e a zsidók királya?«	33 So Pilate went back into the Praetorium and cal ed Jesus to him and asked him, 'Are you the king ofthe Jews?'
34 Jézus azt felelte: »Magadtól mondod ezt, vagy mások mondták neked rólam?«	34 Jesus replied, 'Do you ask this of your own accord, or have others said it to you about me?'
35 Pilátus ezt válaszolta: »Hát zsidó vagyok én? Saját nemzeted és a főpapok adtak téged a kezembe. Mit tettél?«	35 Pilate answered, 'Am I a Jew? It is your own people and the chief priests who have handed you overto me: what have you done?'
36 Jézus azt felelte: »Az én országom nem ebből a világból való. Ha az én országom ebből a világból volna, szolgáim harcra kelnének, hogy a zsidók kezébe ne kerüljek. De az én országom nem innen való.«	36 Jesus replied, 'Mine is not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men wouldhave fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. As it is, my kingdom does not belong here.'
37 Pilátus erre megkérdezte: »Tehát király vagy te?« Jézus azt felelte: »Te mondod, hogy király vagyok. Arra születtem és azért jöttem a világba, hogy tanúságot tegyek az igazságról. Mindaz, aki az igazságból való, hallgat a szavamra.«	37 Pilate said, 'So, then you are a king?' Jesus answered, 'It is you who say that I am a king. I was bornfor this, I came into the world for this, to bear witness to the truth; and al who are on the side of truth listen to myvoice.'
38 Pilátus erre így szólt: »Mi az igazság?« Majd e szavak után ismét kiment a zsidókhoz, és azt mondta nekik: »Én semmi vétket sem találok őbenne.	38 'Truth?' said Pilate. 'What is that?' And so saying he went out again to the Jews and said, 'I find nocase against him.
39 Szokás pedig nálatok, hogy húsvétkor szabadon bocsássak nektek valakit. Akarjátok-e, hogy szabadon bocsássam nektek a zsidók királyát?«	39 But according to a custom of yours I should release one prisoner at the Passover; would you like me,then, to release for you the king of the Jews?'
40 Erre ismét így kiáltoztak: »Ne ezt, hanem Barabást!« Barabás pedig rabló volt.	40 At this they shouted, 'Not this man,' they said, 'but Barabbas.' Barabbas was a bandit.
