1 Volt egy Lázár nevű beteg Betániában, Máriának és nővérének, Mártának a falujában.	1 Now there was a certain sick man, Lazarus of Bethania, from the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 Mária volt az, aki megkente az Urat kenettel, és lábát hajával törölgette. Az ő testvére, Lázár volt beteg.	2 And Mary was the one who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair; her brother Lazarus was sick.

11 Ezt mondta, azután így szólt hozzájuk: »A barátunk, Lázár elaludt, de megyek, hogy felkeltsem őt az álomból.«	11 He said these things, and after this, he said to them: “Lazarus our friend is sleeping. But I am going, so that I may awaken him from sleep.”
12 A tanítványok erre azt mondták: »Uram, ha alszik, meg fog gyógyulni.«	12 And so his disciples said, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he shall be healthy.”
13 Jézus azonban a haláláról szólt, azok pedig azt gondolták, hogy az álom nyugalmáról beszél.	13 But Jesus had spoken about his death. Yet they thought that he spoke about the repose of sleep.
14 Ezért Jézus nyíltan megmondta nekik: »Lázár meghalt,	14 Therefore, Jesus then said to them plainly, “Lazarus has died.
15 és örülök miattatok, hogy nem voltam ott, hogy majd higgyetek. De menjünk hozzá!«	15 And I am glad for your sake that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”
16 Tamás, akit Ikernek neveznek, így szólt a többi tanítványhoz: »Menjünk mi is, és haljunk meg vele együtt!«	16 And then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us go, too, so that we may die with him.”

27 Márta azt felelte neki: »Igen, Uram, hiszem, hogy te vagy a Krisztus, az Isten Fia, aki a világba jön.«	27 She said to him: “Certainly, Lord. I have believed that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God, who has come into this world.”

But he went into a region near the desert, to a city which is called Ephraim. And he lodged there with his disciples.
