Épître aux Hébreux 6

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 C'est pourquoi, laissant l'enseignement élémentaire sur le Christ, élevons-nous à l'enseignementparfait, sans revenir sur les articles fondamentaux du repentir des oeuvres mortes et de la foi en Dieu,	1 Let us leave behind us then al the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to its completion,without going over the fundamental doctrines again: the turning away from dead actions, faith in God,
2 de l'instruction sur les baptêmes et de l'imposition des mains, de la résurrection des morts et dujugement éternel.	2 the teaching about baptisms and the laying -- on of hands, about the resurrection of the dead andeternal judgement.
3 Et c'est ainsi que nous allons faire, si Dieu le permet.	3 This, God willing, is what we propose to do.
4 Il est impossible, en effet, pour ceux qui une fois ont été illuminés, qui ont goûté au don céleste,qui sont devenus participants de l'Esprit Saint,	4 As for those people who were once brought into the light, and tasted the gift from heaven, and receiveda share of the Holy Spirit,
5 qui ont goûté la belle parole de Dieu et les forces du monde à venir,	5 and tasted the goodness of God's message and the powers of the world to come
6 et qui néanmoins sont tombés, de les rénover une seconde fois en les amenant à la pénitence, alorsqu'ils crucifient pour leur compte le Fils de Dieu et le bafouent publiquement.	6 and yet in spite of this have fal en away -- it is impossible for them to be brought to the freshness ofrepentance a second time, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves, and making a publicexhibition of him.
7 En effet, lorsqu'une terre a bu la pluie venue souvent sur elle, et qu'elle produit des plantes utiles àceux-là mêmes pour qui elle est cultivée, elle reçoit de Dieu une bénédiction.	7 A field that drinks up the rain that has fal en frequently on it, and yields the crops that are wanted by theowners who grew them, receives God's blessing;
8 Mais celle qui porte des épines et des ronces est réprouvée et bien proche d'être maudite. Elle finirapar être brûlée.	8 but one that grows brambles and thistles is worthless, and near to being cursed. It will end by beingburnt.
9 Mais quant à vous, bien-aimés, tout en parlant ainsi, nous sommes persuadés que vous êtes dansune situation meilleure et favorable au salut.	9 But you, my dear friends -- in spite of what we have just said, we are sure you are in a better state andon the way to salvation.
10 Car Dieu n'est point injuste, pour oublier ce que vous avez fait et la charité que vous avez montréepour son nom, vous qui avez servi et qui servez les saints.	10 God would not be so unjust as to forget al you have done, the love that you have for his name or theservices you have done, and are stil doing, for the holy people of God.
11 Nous désirons seulement que chacun de vous montre le même zèle pour le plein épanouissementde l'espérance jusqu'à la fin;	11 Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm til the ultimatefulfilment of your hope,
12 de telle sorte que vous ne deveniez pas nonchalants, mais que vous imitiez ceux qui, par la foi etla persévérance, héritent des promesses.	12 never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirsof the promises.
13 En effet, lorsqu'il fit la promesse à Abraham, Dieu ne pouvant jurer par un plus grand, jura parlui-même,	13 When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greaterhe could swear by:
14 en disant: Certes, je te comblerai de bénédictions et je te multiplierai grandement.	14 I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants.
15 C'est ainsi qu'Abraham, ayant persévéré, vit s'accomplir la promesse.	15 Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise.
16 Les hommes jurent par un plus grand, et, entre eux, la garantie du serment met un terme à toutecontestation.	16 Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them,confirmation by an oath puts an end to al dispute.
17 Aussi Dieu, voulant bien davantage faire voir aux héritiers de la promesse l'immutabilité de sondessein, s'engagea-t-il par un serment,	17 In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly howunalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath
18 afin que, par deux réalités immuables, dans lesquelles il est impossible à un Dieu de mentir, noussoyons puissamment encouragés - nous qui avons trouvé un refuge - à saisir fortement l'espérance qui nous estofferte.	18 so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him mighthave a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us.
19 En elle, nous avons comme une ancre de notre âme, sûre autant que solide, et pénétrant par-delàle voile,	19 This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain
20 là où est entré pour nous, en précurseur, Jésus, devenu pour l'éternité grand prêtre selon l'ordre deMelchisédech.	20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of theorder of Melchizedek.
