1 Then Booz went up to the gate, and sat there. And when he had seen the kinsman going by, of whom he had spoken before, he said to him, calling him by his name: Turn aside for a little while, and sit down here. He turned aside, and sat down.1 Boas war zum Stadttor hinaufgegangen und hatte dort Platz genommen. Da ging jener lösepflichtige Mann vorüber, von dem Boas gesprochen hatte. Er rief: "Komm her und setze dich hier nieder, Vetter N. N.!" Da kam er her und setzte sich.
2 And Booz taking ten men of the ancients of the city, said to them: Sit ye down here.2 Dann ließ Boas zehn Männer von den Ältesten der Stadt zu sich holen. Er sprach: "Setzt euch hierher!" Und sie setzten sich.
3 They sat down, and he spoke to the kinsman: Noemi, who is returned from the country of Moab, will sell a parcel of land that belonged to our brother Elimelech.3 Hierauf sprach er zu dem Löser: "Noëmi, die aus dem Lande Moab heimgekehrt ist, verkauft den Grundbesitz, der unserem Sippenbruder Elimelech gehört hat.
4 I would have thee to understand this, and would tell thee before all that sit here, and before the ancients of my people. If thou wilt take possession of it by the right of kindred: buy it and possess it: but if it please thee not, tell me so, that I may know what I have to do. For there is no near kinsman besides thee, who art first, and me, who am second. But he answered: I will buy the field.4 Mir aber kam der Gedanke, ich müsse dir folgenden Hinweis geben: Kaufe ihn doch in Gegenwart der hier Sitzenden und der Ältesten meines Volkes! Wenn du deine Lösepflicht erfüllen willst, so tue es! Wenn du aber nicht lösen willst, so sage es mir, damit ich es weiß; denn außer dir ist niemand da zum Lösen, und ich komme erst nach dir an die Reihe!" Jener antwortete: "Ja, ich will Löser sein!"
5 And Booz said to him: When thou shalt buy the field at the woman's hand, thou must take also Ruth the Moabitess, who was the wife of the deceased: to raise up the name of thy kinsman in his inheritance.5 Boas fuhr fort: "Sobald du das Feld von Noëmi erwirbst, besitzt du damit auch die Moabiterin Rut, die Frau des Verstorbenen; so mußt du den Namen des Toten wieder aufstehen lassen auf seinem Erbteil."
6 He answered: I yield up my right of next akin: for I must not cut off the posterity of my own family. Do thou make use of my privilege, which I profess I do willingly forego.6 Der lösepflichtige Mann entgegnete darauf: "Dann kann ich für mich die Lösepflicht nicht ausführen, denn ich schädige damit mein eigenes Erbteil. Löse also du für dich, was ich lösen sollte; denn ich bin zur Lösung nicht imstande!"
7 Now this in former times was the manner in Israel between kinsmen, that if at any time one yielded his right to another: that the grant might be sure, the man put off his shoe, and gave it to his neighhour; this was a testimony of cession of right in Israel.7 Es bestand vormals in Israel folgender Brauch bei der Einlösung und beim Tauschgeschäft, um jegliche Angelegenheit zu bekräftigen: Man übergab dem Partner seinen Schuh, den man ausgezogen hatte. Das galt als Bezeugung in Israel.
8 So Booz said to his kinsman: Put off thy shoe. And immediately he took it off from his foot.8 Da sprach nun der Löser zu Boas: "Vollziehe den Kauf!", und er zog seinen Schuh aus.
9 And he said to the ancients and to all the people: You are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and Chelion's, and Mahalon's, of the hand of Noemi:9 Boas aber sprach zu den Ältesten und zu allem Volk: "Ihr seid heute dafür Zeugen, daß ich den Gesamtbesitz Elimelechs und den Gesamtbesitz Kiljons und Machlons aus der Hand der Noëmi erworben habe.
10 And have taken to wife Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahalon, to raise up the name of the deceased in his inheritance lest his name be cut off, from among his family and his brethren and his people. You, I say, are witnesses of this thing.10 Dazu habe ich mir die Moabiterin Rut, die Frau des Machlon, als Frau erworben, um den Namen des Toten auf seinem Erbteil aufleben zu lassen! Der Name des Toten soll aus seiner Verwandtschaft und aus dem Tor seines Heimatortes nicht ausgetilgt werden; dessen seid ihr heute Zeugen."
11 Then all the people that were in the gate, and the ancients answered: We are witnesses: The Lord make this woman who cometh into thy house, like Rachel, and Lia, who built up the house of Israel: that she may be an example of virtue in Ephrata, and may have a famous name in Bethlehem:11 Da rief das ganze Volk im Tor samt den Ältesten: "Zeugen sind wir! Der Herr mache die Frau, die in dein Haus zieht, wie Rachel und wie Lea, die beide das Haus Israel aufgebaut haben. Übe Gewalt aus in Ephrata, und dein Name soll in Bethlehem berühmt werden!
12 And that the house may be, as the house of Phares, whom Thamar bore unto Juda, of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this young woman.12 Es sei dein Haus wie das Haus des Perez, den Tamar dem Juda gebar, durch die Nachkommenschaft, die der Herr dir von dieser jungen Frau geben möge!"
13 Booz therefore took Ruth, and married her: and went in unto her, and the Lord gave her to conceive and to bear a son.13 So nahm denn Boas Rut, und sie ward seine Frau. Er wohnte ihr bei, und der Herr verlieh ihr Fruchtbarkeit, und sie gebar einen Sohn.
14 And the women said to Noemi: Blessed be the Lord, who hath not suffered thy family to want a successor, that his name should be preserved in Israel.14 Die Frauen sprachen nun zu Noëmi: "Gepriesen sei der Herr, der dir heute einen Löser geschenkt hat; sein Name werde berühmt in Israel.
15 And thou shouldst have one to comfort thy soul, and cherish thy old age. For he is born of thy daughter in law: who loveth thee: and is much better to thee, than if thou hadst seven sons.15 Er wird dir zum Trost deiner Seele und zur Stütze deines Alters werden; denn deine Schwiegertochter, die dir Liebe erwies, hat ihn geboren. Sie ist dir mehr wert als sieben Söhne."
16 And Noemi taking the child laid it in her bosom, and she carried it, and was a nurse unto it.16 Da nahm Noëmi das Kind, legte es an ihren Busen und wurde seine Wärterin.
17 And the women her neighbours, congratulating with her and saying: There is a son born to Noemi: called his name Obed: he is the father of Isai, the father of David.17 Die Nachbarinnen gaben ihm einen Namen, indem sie sprachen: "Geboren ist Noëmi ein Sohn!" Sie nannten seinen Namen Obed. Dieser ward der Vater des Isai, der Davids Vater war.
18 These are the generations of Phares: Phares begot Esron,18 Dies ist der Stammbaum des Perez: Perez zeugte den Chezron.
19 Esron begot Aram, Aram begot Aminadab,19 Chezron zeugte den Ram, Ram zeugte den Amminadab.
20 Aminadab begot Nahasson, Nahasson begot Salmon,20 Amminadab zeugte den Nachschon, und Nachschon zeugte den Salmon.
21 Salmon begot Booz, Booz begot Obed,21 Salmon zeugte den Boas, Boas zeugte den Obed,
22 Obed begot Isai, Isai begot David.22 und Obed zeugte den Isai, Isai aber zeugte den David.
