1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers dispersed through Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect,1 Pedro, apóstol de Jesucristo, a los elegidos, los peregrinos de la diáspora en el Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia,
2 According to the foreknowledge of God the Father, unto the sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you and peace be multiplied.2 conforme al previo conocimiento de Dios Padre, mediante la santificación con el Espíritu, por la obediencia y la aspersión de la sangre de Jesucristo: a vosotros, gracia y paz abundantes.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy hath regenerated us unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,3 Bendito sea Dios, Padre de nuestro Señor, Jesucristo, | que, por su gran misericordia, | mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo de entre los muertos, | nos ha regenerado | para una esperanza viva;
4 Unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that can not fade, reserved in heaven for you,4 para una herencia incorruptible, intachable e inmarcesible, | reservada en el cielo a vosotros,
5 Who, by the power of God, are kept by faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.5 que, mediante la fe, estáis protegidos con la fuerza de Dios; | para una salvación dispuesta a revelarse en el momento final.
6 Wherein you shall greatly rejoice, if now you must be for a little time made sorrowful in divers temptations:6 Por ello os alegráis, | aunque ahora sea preciso padecer un poco en pruebas diversas;
7 That the trial of your faith (much more precious than gold which is tried by the fire) may be found unto praise and glory and honour at the appearing of Jesus Christ:7 así la autenticidad de vuestra fe, más preciosa que el oro, | que, aunque es perecedero, se aquilata a fuego, | merecerá premio, gloria y honor en la revelación de Jesucristo;
8 Whom having not seen, you love: in whom also now, though you see him not, you believe: and believing shall rejoice with joy unspeakable and glorified;8 sin haberlo visto lo amáis y, sin contemplarlo todavía, creéis en él | y así os alegráis con un gozo inefable y radiante,
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.9 alcanzando así la meta de vuestra fe: la salvación de vuestras almas.
10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and diligently searched, who prophesied of the grace to come in you.10 Sobre esta salvación estuvieron explorando e indagando los profetas | que profetizaron sobre la gracia destinada a vosotros
11 Searching what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ in them did signify: when it foretold those sufferings that are in Christ, and the glories that should follow:11 tratando de averiguar a quién y a qué momento apuntaba | el Espíritu de Cristo que había en ellos | cuando atestiguaba por anticipado la pasión del Mesías | y su consiguiente glorificación.
12 To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you they ministered those things which are now declared to you by them that have preached the gospel to you, the Holy Ghost being sent down from heaven, on whom the angels desire to look.12 Y se les reveló que no era en beneficio propio, sino en el vuestro | por lo que administraban estas cosas | que ahora os anuncian quienes os proclaman el Evangelio | con la fuerza del Espíritu Santo enviado desde el cielo. | Son cosas que los mismos ángeles desean contemplar.
13 Wherefore having the loins of your mind girt up, being sober, trust perfectly in the grace which is offered you in the revelation of Jesus Christ,13 Por eso, ceñidos los lomos de vuestra mente y, manteniéndoos sobrios, confiad plenamente en la gracia que se os dará en la revelación de Jesucristo.
14 As children of obedience, not fashioned according to the former desires of your ignorance:14 Como hijos obedientes, no os amoldéis a las aspiraciones que teníais antes, en los días de vuestra ignorancia.
15 But according to him that hath called you, who is holy, be you also in all manner of conversation holy:15 Al contrario, lo mismo que es santo el que os llamó, sed santos también vosotros en toda vuestra conducta,
16 Because it is written: You shall be holy, for I am holy.16 porque está escrito: Seréis santos, porque yo soy santo.
17 And if you invoke as Father him who, without respect of persons, judgeth according to every one's work: converse in fear during the time of your sojourning here.17 Y puesto que podéis llamar Padre al que juzga imparcialmente según las obras de cada uno, comportaos con temor durante el tiempo de vuestra peregrinación,
18 Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things as gold or silver, from your vain conversation of the tradition of your fathers:18 pues ya sabéis que fuisteis liberados de vuestra conducta inútil, heredada de vuestros padres, pero no con algo corruptible, con oro o plata,
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb unspotted and undefiled,19 sino con una sangre preciosa, como la de un cordero sin defecto y sin mancha, Cristo,
20 Foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but manifested in the last times for you,20 previsto ya antes de la creación del mundo y manifestado en los últimos tiempos por vosotros,
21 Who through him are faithful in God, who raised him up from the dead, and hath given him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God.21 que, por medio de él, creéis en Dios, que lo resucitó de entre los muertos y le dio gloria, de manera que vuestra fe y vuestra esperanza estén puestas en Dios.
22 Purifying your souls in the obedience of charity, with a brotherly love, from a sincere heart love one another earnestly:22 Ya que habéis purificado vuestras almas por la obediencia a la verdad hasta amaros unos a otros como hermanos, amaos de corazón unos a otros con una entrega total,
23 Being born again not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible, by the word of God who liveth and remaineth for ever.23 pues habéis sido regenerados, pero no a partir de una semilla corruptible sino de algo incorruptible, mediante la palabra de Dios viva y permanente,
24 For all flesh is as grass; and all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass is withered, and the flower thereof is fallen away.24 porque Toda carne es como hierba | y todo su esplendor como flor de hierba: | se agosta la hierba y la flor se cae, |
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel hath been preached unto you.25 pero la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre. Pues esa es la palabra del Evangelio que se os anunció.
