DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Know also this, that, in the last days, shall come dangerous times.1 But understand this: there will be terrifying times in the last days.
Men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, haughty, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked,2 People will be self-centered and lovers of money, proud, haughty, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, irreligious,
Without affection, without peace, slanderers, incontinent, unmerciful, without kindness,3 callous, implacable, slanderous, licentious, brutal, hating what is good,
Traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasures more than of God:4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
Having an appearance indeed of godliness, but denying the power thereof. Now these avoid.5 as they make a pretense of religion but deny its power. Reject them.
For of these sort are they who creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, who are led away with divers desires:6 For some of these slip into homes and make captives of women weighed down by sins, led by various desires,
Ever learning, and never attaining to the knowledge of the truth.7 always trying to learn but never able to reach a knowledge of the truth.
Now as Jannes and Mambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so they also oppose the truth--people of depraved mind, unqualified in the faith.
But they shall proceed no farther; for their folly shall be manifest to all men, as theirs also was.9 But they will not make further progress, for their foolishness will be plain to all, as it was with those two.
But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,10 You have followed my teaching, way of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance,
Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra, persecutions that I endured. Yet from all these things the Lord delivered me.
And all that will live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.12 In fact, all who want to live religiously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
But evil men and seducers shall grow worse and worse: erring, and driving into error.13 But wicked people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived.
But continue thou in those things which thou hast learned, and which have been committed to thee: knowing of whom thou hast learned them;14 But you, remain faithful to what you have learned and believed, because you know from whom you learned it,
And because from thy infancy thou hast known the holy scriptures, which can instruct thee to salvation, by the faith which is in Christ Jesus.15 and that from infancy you have known (the) sacred scriptures, which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice,16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.17 so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
