1 Now the Spirit manifestly saith, that in the last times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to spirits of error, and doctrines of devils,	1 Der Geist aber sagt ausdrücklich: In den späteren Zeiten werden manche vom Glauben abfallen und Irrgeistern sich zuwenden und Lehren von Dämonen,
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy, and having their conscience seared,	2 die unter Verstellung trügerisch reden, aber gebrandmarkt sind in ihrem eigenen Gewissen.
3 Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by the faithful, and by them that have known the truth.	3 Sie verbieten das Heiraten und den Genuß von Speisen, die Gott doch geschaffen hat, damit sie unter Danksagung genossen werden von denen, die glauben und die Wahrheit erkannt haben.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be rejected that is received with thanksgiving:	4 Denn alles, was Gott geschaffen, ist gut, und nichts ist verwerflich, wenn es unter Danksagung genommen wird;
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.	5 es wird ja geheiligt durch Gottes Wort und durch Gebet.
6 These things proposing to the brethren, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished up in the words of faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast attained unto.	6 Wenn du dies den Brüdern darlegst, bist du ein trefflicher Diener Christi Jesu, genährt mit den Worten des Glaubens und der rechten Lehre, der du gefolgt bist.
7 But avoid foolish and old wives' fables: and exercise thyself unto godliness.	7 Mit den unheiligen, albernen Geschichten befasse dich nicht; übe dich vielmehr in der Frömmigkeit!
8 For bodily exercise is profitable to little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.	8 Denn die leibliche Übung ist zu wenigem nützlich; die Frömmigkeit aber ist zu allem nützlich, sie hat die Verheißung des Lebens, des irdischen und des künftigen.
9 A faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.	9 Glaubhaft ist das Wort und aller Annahme wert.
10 For therefore we labor and are reviled, because we hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.	10 Denn dafür arbeiten und kämpfen wir, weil wir unser hoffen auf den lebendigen Gott gesetzt haben, der aller Menschen Retter ist, vor allem der Gläubigen.
11 These things command and teach.	11 Dies verkünde und lehre!
12 Let no man despise thy youth: but be thou an example of the faithful in word, in conversation, in charity, in faith, in chastity.	12 Niemand soll dich geringachten deiner Jugend wegen. Sei vielmehr ein Vorbild für die Gläubigen im Wort, im Wandel, in der Liebe, im Glauben, in der Reinheit!
13 Till I come, attend unto reading, to exhortation, and to doctrine.	13 Bis ich komme, widme dich dem Vorlesen, der Ermahnung, der Unterweisung!
14 Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.	14 Vernachlässige nicht die Gnadengabe in dir, wie sie dir zuteil wurde auf Grund einer prophetischen Offenbarung unter Handauflegung der Ältestenschaft!
15 Meditate upon these things, be wholly in these things: that thy profiting may be manifest to all.	15 Darauf richte deine Sorge, darin gehe auf, so daß dein Voranschreiten sichtbar sei für alle!
16 Take heed to thyself and to doctrine: be earnest in them. For in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.	16 Hab acht auf dich selbst und auf die Lehre, halte dich daran; denn wenn du es tust, wirst du dich selber retten und jene, die auf dich hören.
