1 And as they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the officer of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,	1 Enquanto eles falavam ao povo, sobrevieram os sacerdotes, o oficial do templo e os saduceus,
2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead:	2 descontentes de que eles ensinassem o povo, e anunciassem, na pessoa de Jesus, a ressurreição dos mortos,
3 And they laid hands upon them, and put them in hold till the next day; for it was now evening.	3 Lançaram mão deles e meteram-nos na prisão até ao outro dia, porque era já tarde.
4 But many of them who had heard the word, believed; and the number of the men was made five thousand.	4 Porém, muitos daqueles que tinham ouvido a palavra, creram, e o número de homens elevou-se a cerca de cinco mil.
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their princes, and ancients, and scribes, were gathered together in Jerusalem;	5 Aconteceu que, no dia seguinte, se reuniram os seus chefes, os anciães e os escribas de Jerusalém,
6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest.	6 e Anás, príncipe dos sacerdotes, Caifás, João, Alexandre e todos os que eram da linhagem pontifical.
7 And setting them in the midst, they asked: By what power, or by what name, have you done this?	7 Mandando-os vir à sua presença, interrogavam-nos: "Com que poder e em nome de quem fizeste isto?"
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said to them: Ye princes of the people, and ancients, hear:	8 Então Pedro, cheio do Espírito Santo, disse-lhes: "Príncipes do povo e anciães, ouvi-me:
9 If we this day are examined concerning the good deed done to the infirm man, by what means he hath been made whole:	9 Já que hoje somos interrogados sobre um benefício feito a um homem enfermo, (para saber) de que modo este homem foi curado,
10 Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him this man standeth here before you whole.	10 seja notório a todos vós e a todo o povo de Israel, que é em nome de Jesus Cristo Nazareno, que vós crucificastes, e a quem Deus ressuscitou dos mortos, é por ele que este está são diante de vós.
11 This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner.	11 Ele é a pedra que foi rejeitada por vós que edificais, a qual foi posta por pedra angular (Ps. 117, 22).
12 Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.	12 Não há salvação em nenhum outro, porque, sob o céu, nenhum outro nome foi dado aos homens, pelo qual devamos ser salvos."
13 Now seeing the constancy of Peter and of John, understanding that they were illiterate and ignorant men, they wondered; and they knew them that they had been with Jesus.	13 Vendo eles a firmeza de Pedro e de João, sabendo que eram homens sem letras e do povo, admiravam-se e reconheciam ser os que andavam com Jesus;
14 Seeing the man also who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.	14 e vendo também em pé junto deles o homem que tinha sido curado, não podiam dizer nada em contrário.
15 But they commanded them to go aside out of the council; and they conferred among themselves,	15 Mandaram, pois, que saíssem para fora da assembleia e deliberaram entre si,
16 Saying: What shall we do to these men? for indeed a known miracle hath been done by them, to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: it is manifest, and we cannot deny it.	16 dizendo: "Que faremos destes homens? Porquanto foi feito por eles um grande milagre, notório a todos os habitantes de Jerusalém; é manifesto, e não o podemos negar.
17 But that it may be no farther spread among the people, let us threaten them that they speak no more in this name to any man.	17 Mas para que não se divulgue mais entre o povo, proibamos-lhes com graves ameaças que, para o futuro, não falem mais a homem algum neste nome."
18 And calling them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus.	18 Chamando-os, intimaram-lhes que absolutamente não falassem mais, nem ensinassem em nome de Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answering, said to them: If it be just in the sight of God, to hear you rather than God, judge ye.	19 Mas Pedro e João replicaram-lhes: "Se é justo diante de Deus obedecer antes a vós que a Deus, julgai-o vós mesmos;
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.	20 não podemos, pois, deixar de falar das coisas que vimos e ouvimos."
21 But they threatening, sent them away, not finding how they might punish them, because of the people; for all men glorified what had been done, in that which had come to pass.	21 Eles então, ameaçando-os novamente, deixaram-nos ir livres, não encontrando pretexto para os castigar, por causa do povo, porque todos glorificavam a Deus pelo que tinha acontecido.
22 For the man was above forty years old, in whom that miraculous cure had been wrought.	22 Já tinha mais de quarenta anos o homem, em quem tinha sido operada aquela cura miraculosa.
23 And being let go, they came to their own company, and related all that the chief priests and ancients had said to them.	23 Postos com liberdade, foram ter com os seus, e referiram-lhes quanto lhes tinham dito os príncipes dos sacerdotes e os anciães.
24 Who having heard it, with one accord lifted up their voice to God, and said: Lord, thou art he that didst make heaven and earth, the sea, and all things that are in them.	24 Eles, tendo-os ouvido, levantaram unânimes a voz a Deus e disseram: "Senhor, tu és o Deus que fizeste o céu, a terra, o mar e tudo o que há neles (Ps. 146, 6) ;
25 Who, by the Holy Ghost, by the mouth of our father David, thy servant, hast said: Why did the Gentiles rage, and the people meditate vain things?	25 que, mediante o Espirito Santo, pela boca do nosso pai David, teu servo, disseste: Por que se agitaram as gentes, e os povos fizeram vãos projectos?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes assembled together against the Lord and his Christ.	26 Concertaram-se os reis da terra, e os príncipes se coligaram contra o Senhor e contra o seu Cristo (Ps. 2, 1-2).
27 For of a truth there assembled together in this city against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel,	27 Porque verdadeiramente se coligaram nesta cidade contra o teu santo servidor Jesus, ao qual ungiste, Herodes e Pôncio Pilatos, com os gentios e com os povos de Israel,
28 To do what thy hand and thy counsel decreed to be done.	28 para executarem o que a tua mão e a tua sabedoria determinaram que se fizesse.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings, and grant unto thy servants, that with all confidence they may speak thy word,	29 Agora, Senhor, olha para as suas ameaças, e concede aos teus servos que, com toda a confiança, anunciem a tua palavra,
30 By stretching forth thy hand to cures, and signs, and wonders to be done by the name of thy holy Son Jesus.	30 estendendo a tua mão para que se façam curas, milagres e prodígios por meio do nome do teu santo servidor Jesus."
31 And when they had prayed, the place was moved wherein they were assembled; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spoke the word of God with confidence.	31 Tendo eles assim orado, tremeu o lugar onde estavam reunidos; ficaram todos cheios do Espírito Santo e anunciavam com firmeza a palavra de Deus.
32 And the multitude of believers had but one heart and one soul: neither did any one say that aught of the things which he possessed, was his own; but all things were common unto them.	32 A multidão dos que criam tinha um só coração e uma só alma, e nenhum dizia ser sua coisa alguma daquelas que possuía, mas tudo entre eles era comum.
33 And with great power did the apostles give testimony of the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord; and great grace was in them all.	33 Os Apóstolos, com grande coragem, davam testemunho da ressurreição do Senhor Jesus, e era grande em todos eles a graça (de Deus).
34 For neither was there any one needy among them. For as many as were owners of lands or houses, sold them, and brought the price of the things they sold,	34 Não havia nenhum necessitado entre eles, porque todos os que possuíam campos ou casas, vendendo-os, traziam o preço do que vendiam
35 And laid it down before the feet of the apostles. And distribution was made to every one, according as he had need.	35 e depunham-no aos pés dos Apóstolos; e distribuía-se por cada um segundo a sua necessidade.
36 And Joseph, who, by the apostles, was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, by interpretation, The son of consolation,) a Levite, a Cyprian born,	36 Ora José, a quem os Apóstolos davam o sobrenome de Barnabé (que quer dizer Filho de consolação), levita, natural de Chipre,
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the price, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.	37 tendo um campo, vendeu-o, levou o preço e o depôs aos pés dos Apóstolos.
