1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Son of man, there were two women, daughters of one mother.	1 La parole du Seigneur me fut adressée en ces termes:
2 dummy verses inserted by amos	2 Fils de l'homme, il y a eu deux femmes, filles d'une même mère.
3 And they committed fornication in Egypt, in their youth they committed fornication: there were their breasts pressed down, and the teats of their virginity were bruised.	3 Elles se sont prostituées en Egypte, elles se sont prostituées dans leur jeunesse; là leurs seins ont été pressés, et leurs mamelles virginales ont été touchées.
4 And their names were Oolla the elder, and Ooliba her younger sister: and I took them, and they bore sons and daughters. Now for their names, Samaria is Oolla, and Jerusalem is Ooliba.	4 L'aînée s'appelait Oolla, et la plus jeune, sa soeur, Ooliba. Elles furent à moi, et elles enfantèrent des fils et des filles. Or voici leurs noms: Oolla, c'est Samarie, et Ooliba, c'est Jérusalem.
5 And Oolla committed fornication against me, and doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians that came to her,	5 Oolla me fut donc infidèle, et elle devint folle de ses amants, les Assyriens ses voisins,
6 Who were clothed with blue, princes, and rulers, beautiful youths, all horsemen, mounted upon horses.	6 vêtus d'hyacinthe, princes et magistrats, jeunes et propres à allumer sa passion, tous cavaliers montés sur des chevaux.
7 And she committed her fornications with those chosen men, all sons of the Assyrians: and she defiled herself with the uncleanness of all them on whom she doted.	7 Elle s'est abandonnée dans sa fornication à ces hommes d'élite, tous fils des Assyriens, et elle s'est souillée dans ses impuretés avec tous ceux dont elle était follement éprise.
8 Moreover also she did not forsake her fornications which she had committed in Egypt: for they also lay with her in her youth, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured out their fornication upon her.	8 Elle n'a pas renoncé pour cela aux fornications par lesquelles elle s'était prostituée en Egypte; car ils l'avaient aussi corrompue dans sa jeunesse, ils avaient pressé son sein de vierge, et ils avaient répandu sur elle leur fornication.
9 Therefore have I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the sons of the Assyrians, upon whose lust she doted.	9 C'est pourquoi Je l'ai livrée aux mains de ses amants, aux mains des fils d'Assur, dont elle s'était follement éprise.
10 They discovered her disgrace, took away her sons and daughters, and slew her with the sword: and they became infamous women, and they executed judgments in her.	10 Ils ont découvert son ignominie, ils ont enlevé ses fils et ses filles, et ils l'ont tuée elle-même avec l'épée; et elles devinrent des femmes fameuses, par les jugements exercés contre elles.
11 And when her sister Ooliba saw this, she was mad with lust more than she: and she carried her fornication beyond the fornication of her sister.	11 Après avoir vu cela, sa soeur Ooliba a poussé encore plus loin qu'elle la fureur de sa passion, et sa fornication a dépassé celle de sa soeur.
12 Impudently prostituting herself to the children of the Assyrians, the princes, and rulers that came to her, clothed with divers colours, to the horsemen that rode upon horses, and to young men all of great beauty.	12 Elle s'est livrée sans pudeur aux fils des Assyriens, aux chefs et aux magistrats qui venaient vers elle, couverts de vêtements de différente couleur, aux cavaliers qui étaient montés sur leurs chevaux, tous jeunes et beaux.
13 And I saw that she was defiled, and that they both took one way.	13 Et je vis que leur voie à toutes les deux était également souillée.
14 And she increased her fornications: and when she had seen men painted on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans set forth in colours,	14 Et Oolila a augmenté encore ses fornications; car ayant vu des hommes peints sur la muraille, des images des Chaldéens tracées en couleurs,
15 And girded with girdles about their reins, and with dyed turbans on their heads, the resemblance of all the captains, the likeness of the sons of Babylon, and of the land of the Chaldeans wherein they were born,	15 avec les reins ceints de baudriers et des tiares de différentes couleurs sur la tête, ayant tous l'apparence de chefs, et la ressemblance des fils de Babylone et du pays des Chaldéens où ils sont nés,
16 She doted upon them with the lust of her eyes, and she sent messengers to them into Chaldea.	16 elle en est devenue folle, à cause de la concupiscence de ses yeux, et elle leur a envoyé des ambassadeurs en Chaldée.
17 And when the sons of Babylon were come to her to the bed of love, they defiled her with their fornications, and she was polluted by them, and her soul was glutted with them.	17 Et lorsque les fils de Babylone furent venus auprès d'elle, dans la couche de la prostitution, ils la souillèrent par leurs infamies, et elle fut souillée par eux, et son âme se dégoûtâ d'eux.
18 And she discovered her fornications, and discovered her disgrace: and my soul was alienated from her, as my soul was alienated from her sister.	18 Elle a mis à nu ses fornications, et elle a découvert son ignominie; et Mon âme s'est éloignée d'elle, comme Mon âme s'était éloignée de sa soeur.
19 For she multiplied her fornications, remembering the days of her youth, in which she played the harlot in the land of Egypt.	19 Car elle a multiplié ses fornications, se souvenant des jours de sa jeunesse, pendant lesquels elle s'était prostituée dans le pays d'Egypte.
20 And she was mad with lust after lying with them whose flesh is as the flesh of asses: and whose issue as the issue of horses.	20 Elle est devenue folle dans son ardeur pour les embrassements de ces hommes, dont la chair est comme la chair des âmes, et dont l'approche est comme celle des chevaux.
21 And thou hast renewed the wickedness of thy youth, when thy breasts were pressed in Egypt, and the papa of thy virginity broken.	21 Et tu as renouvelé le crime de ta jeunesse, lorsque tes seins furent pressés en Egypte, et que tes mamelles virginales furent touchées.
22 Therefore, Ooliba, thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will raise up against thee all thy lovers with whom thy soul hath been glutted: and I will gather them together against thee round about.	22 C'est pourquoi, Ooliba, ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Voici, Je susciterai contre toi tous tes amants dont ton âme s'est rassasiée, et Je les rassemblerai contre toi de toutes parts,
23 The children of Babylon, and all the Chaldeans, the nobles, and the kings, and princes, all the sons of the Assyrians, beautiful young men, all the captains, and rulers, the princes of princes, and the renowned horsemen.	23 les fils de Babylone et tous les Chaldéens, nobles, rois et princes, tous les fils des Assyriens, jeunes gens bien faits, tous chefs et magistrats, princes des princes,et cavaliers renommés.
24 And they shall come upon thee well appointed with chariot and wheel, a multitude of people: they shall be armed against thee on every side with breastplate, and buckler, and helmet: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge thee by their judgments.	24 Ils viendront contre toi munis de chars et de roues, avec une foule de peuples; ils t'attaqueront de toutes parts, armés de la cuirasse, du bouclier et du casque; Je leur donnerai le jugement, et ils te jugeront selon leurs lois.
25 And I will set my jealousy against thee, which they shall execute upon thee with fury: they shall cut off thy nose and thy ears: and what remains shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons, and thy daughters, and thy residue shall be devoured by fire.	25 Je dirigerai Ma jalousie contre toi, et ils l'exerceront avec fureur; ils te couperont le nez et les oreilles, et ce qui restera, ils le feront tomber par l'épée; ils prendront tes fils et tes filles, et ce qui restera de toi sera dévoré par le feu.
26 And they shall strip thee of thy garments, and take away the instruments of thy glory.	26 Ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, et ils enlèveront tes pauvres parures précieuses.
27 And I will put an end to thy wickedness in thee, and thy fornication brought out of the land of Egypt: neither shalt thou lift up thy eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.	27 Je ferai cesser ton crime, et ta fornication du pays d'Egypte; tu ne lèveras plus tes yeux vers eux, et tu ne te souviendras plus de l'Egypte.
28 For thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will deliver thee into the hands of them whom thou hatest, into their hands with whom thy soul hath been glutted.	28 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Voici, Je te livrerai aux mains de ceux que tu hais, aux mains de ceux dont ton âme est rassasiée.
29 And they shall deal with thee in hatred, and they shall take away all thy labours, and shall let thee go naked, and full of disgrace, and the disgrace of thy fornication shall be discovered, thy wickedness, and thy fornications.	29 Ils te traiteront avec haine, ils enlèveront le fruit de tous tes travaux, ils te laisseront nue et pleine d'ignominie; et la honte de tes fornications, ton crime et tes impudicités seront découverts.
30 They have done these things to thee, because thou hast played the harlot with the nations among which thou wast defiled with their idols.	30 Ils te traiteront ainsi parce que tu t'es prostituée aux nations, parmi lesquelles tu t'es souillée par le culte de leurs idoles.
31 Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister, and I will give her cup into thy hand.	31 Tu as marché dans la voie de ta soeur, et Je mettrai sa coupe dans ta main.
32 Thus saith the Lord God: Thou shalt drink thy sister's cup, deep, and wide: thou shalt be had in derision and scorn, which containeth very much.	32 Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Tu boiras la coupe de ta soeur, cette coupe profonde et large, et tu seras un objet de risée et de raillerie; sa capacité est très grande.
33 Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness, and sorrow: with the cup of grief, and sadness, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.	33 Tu seras remplie d'ivresse et de douleur, par cette coupe d'affliction et de tristesse, par cette coupe de ta soeur Samarie.
34 And thou shalt drink it, and shalt drink it up even to the dregs, and thou shalt devour the fragments thereof, thou shalt rend thy breasts: because I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.	34 Tu la boiras, et tu la videras jusqu'à la lie; tu en dévoreras même les débris, et tu te déchireras le sein, car c'est Moi qui ai parlé, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
35 Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Because thou hast forgotten me, and hast cast me off behind thy back, bear thou also thy wickedness, and thy fornications.	35 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Parce que tu M'as oublié et que tu M'as rejeté derrière ton dos, toi aussi porte ton crime et tes fornications.
36 And the Lord spoke to me, saying: Son of man, dost thou judge Oolla, and Ooliba, and dost thou declare to them their wicked deeds?	36 Le Seigneur me dit aussi: Fils de l'homme, ne jugeras-tu pas Oolla et Ooliba, et ne leur annonceras-tu pas leurs crimes?
37 Because they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and they have committed fornication with their idols: moreover also their children, whom they bore to me, they have offered to them to be devoured.	37 Car elles se sont livrées à l'adultère, et il y a du sang dans leurs mains, et elles se sont prostituées à leurs idoles; de plus, les enfants qu'elles M'avaient engendrés, elles les leur ont offert en pâture.
38 Yea, and they have done this to me. They polluted my sanctuary on the same day, and profaned my sabbaths.	38 Voici encore ce qu'elles M'ont fait: elles ont violé Mon sanctuaire et ce jour-là, et elles ont profané Mes sabbats.
39 And when they sacrificed their children to their idols, and went into my sanctuary the same day to profane it: they did these things even in the midst of my house.	39 Et lorsqu'elles immolaient leurs enfants à leurs idoles, et qu'elles entraient dans Mon sanctuaire en ce jour-là pour le souiller, voilà ce qu'elles ont fait au milieu de Ma maison.
40 They sent for men coming from afar, to whom they had sent a messenger: and behold they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself, and didst paint thy eyes, and wast adorned with women's ornaments.	40 Elles ont fait chercher des hommes venant de loin, auxquels elles avaient envoyé des ambassadeurs, et voici, ils sont venus; pour eux tu t'es lavée, tu as mis du fard à tes yeux, et tu t'es ornée des parures des femmes;
41 Thou sattest on a very fine bed, and a table was decked before thee: whereupon thou didst set my incense, and my ointment.	41 tu t'es assise sur un lit magnfique, et une table a été dressée devant toi, et tu as placé sur elle Mon encens et Mes parfums.
42 And there was in her the voice of a multitude rejoicing: and to some that were brought of the multitude of men, and that came from the desert, they put bracelets on their hands, and beautiful crowns on their heads.	42 On entendait la voix d'une multitude joyeuse, et à quelques-uns, que l'on amenait de cette foule d'hommes qui venaient du désert, on mettait des bracelets aux mains et des couronnes brillantes sur la tête.
43 And I said to her that was worn out in her adulteries: Now will this woman still continue in her fornication.	43 Je dis alors au sujet de celle qui a vieilli dans l'adultère: Continuera-t-elle maintenant ses fornications, elle aussi?
44 And they went in to her, as to a harlot: so went they in unto Oolla, and Ooliba, wicked women.	44 Ils sont entrés chez elle comme chez une femme débauchée; c'est ainsi qu'ils sont entrés chez Oolla et Ooliba, ces femmes criminelles.
45 They therefore are k just men: these shall judge them as adulteresses are judged, and as shedders of blood are judged: because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.	45 Mais ces hommes sont justes; ils les jugeront comme on juge les adultères, et comme on juge ceux qui répandent le sang; car ce sont des adultères, et il y a du sang à leurs mains.
46 For thus saith the Lord God: Bring a multitude upon them, and deliver them over to tumult and rapine:	46 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Amène contre elles une multitude, et livre-les au tumulte et au pillage.
47 And lee the people stone them with stones, and let them be stabbed with their swords: they shall kill their sons and daughters, and their houses they shall burn with fire.	47 Que les peuples les lapident avec des pierres, et qu'ils les percent de leurs épées; ils tueront leurs fils et leurs filles, et ils brûleront leurs maisons par le feu.
48 And I will take away wickedness out of the land: and all women shall learn, not to do according to the wickedness of them.	48 J'enlèverai ainsi le crime du pays, et toutes les femmes apprendront à ne pas imiter leur crime.
49 And they shall render your wickedness upon you, and you shall bear the sins of your idols: and you shall know that I am the Lord God.	49 Et on fera retomber votre crime sur vous; vous porterez les péchés de vos idoles, et vous saurez que Je suis le Seigneur Dieu.
