Jeremiah 6

1 Strengthen yourselves, ye sons of Benjamin, in the midst of Jerusalem, and sound the trumpet in Thecua, and set up the standard over Bethacarem: for evil is seen out of the north, and a great destruction.	1 Fugi, filhos de Benjamim, do meio de Jerusalém, fazei soar a trombeta em Tecua e levantai o estandarte sobre Betacarém, porque de banda do aquilão aparece um mal, uma grande ruína.
2 I have likened the daughter of Sion to a beautiful and delicate woman.	2 A formosa, a delicada filha de Sião, eu a destruí.
3 The shepherds shall come to her with their flocks: they have pitched their tents against her round about: every one shall feed them that are under his hand.	3 A ela chegam os pastores e os seus rebanhos; levantam ao redor as suas tendas; cada um pasta a sua parte.
4 Prepare ye war against her: arise, and let us go up at midday: woe unto us, for the day is declined, for the shadows of the evening are grown longer.	4 Preparai-vos para lhe fazer guerra; levantai-vos e subamos, ao meio-dia. _(Mas), ai de nós, que declina o dia e as sombras da noite se estendem.
5 Arise, and let us go up in the night, and destroy her houses.	5 Levantai-vos, subamos de noite e deitemos abaixo os seus palácios.
6 For thus saith the Lord of hosts: Hew down her trees, cast up a trench about Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited, all oppression is in the midst of her.	6 Porque isto diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Cortai as suas árvores, levantai plataformas à roda de Jerusalém: esta é a cidade destinada à punição, porque todo o gênero de injustiça reina no meio dela.
7 As a cistern maketh its water cold, so hath she made her wickedness cold: violence and spoil shall be heard in her, infirmity and stripes are continually before me.	7 Como uma nascente faz surgir a água, assim ela a sua maldade. Sòmente se ouve falar nela de injustiças e de ruínas; diante de mim estão sem cessar a tortura e o açoute.
8 Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee, lest I make thee desolate, a land uninhabited.	8 Emenda-te, Jerusalém, para que não suceda que a minha alma se aparte de ti e que eu te reduza a um deserto, a uma terra inabitada.
9 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: They shall gather the remains of Israel, as in a vine, even to one cluster: turn back thy hand, as a grape gatherer into the basket.	9 Eis o que diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Até ao último cacho, como na vindima, se apanharão os restos de Israel. Torna a passar a mão por entre os sarmentos, como o vindimador.
10 To whom shall I speak? and to whom shall I testify, that he may hear? behold, their ears are uncircumcised, and they cannot hear: behold the word of the Lord is become unto them a reproach: and and they will not receive it.	10 A quem falarei eu? A quem conjurarei que me ouça? Os seus ouvidos estão incircuncidados, não podem ouvir; a palavra do Senhor tornou-se para eles um motivo de opróbrio, não sentem gosto por ela.
11 Therefore am I full of the fury of the Lord, I am weary with holding in: pour it out upon the child abroad, and upon the council of the young men together: for man and woman shall be taken, the ancient and he that is full of days.	11 Por isso é que estou cheio do furor do Senhor; estou cansado de o conter. Derrama a indignação sobre o menino que anda pela rua, e juntamente sobre a assembleia dos jovens. Todos serão presos: o marido e a mulher, o velho e o decrépito.
12 And their houses shall be turned over to others, with their lands and their wives together: for I will stretch for my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the Lord.	12 As suas casas passarão a estranhos, assim como os seus campos e as suas mulheres, porque eu estenderei a minha mão sobre os habitantes do país, diz o Senhor.
13 For from the least of them even to the greatest, all are given to covetousness: and from the prophet even to the priest, all are guilty of deceit.	13 Com efeito, desde o mais pequeno ao maior, todos se entregam à ganância; desde o profeta ao sacerdote, todos procedem com dolo.
14 And they healed the breach of the daughter of my people disgracefully, saying: Peace, peace: and there was no peace.	14 Tratam à toa as chagas da filha do meu povo, dizendo: Paz, paz! - quando não há paz.
15 They were confounded, because they commmitted abomination: yea, rather they were not confounded with confusion, and they knew not how to blush: wherefore they shall fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall fall down, saith the Lord.	15 Serão confundidos, porque fizeram coisas abomináveis, mas (melhor dizendo) nem sequer sentem já vergonha, não sabem que coisa é envergonhar-se. Por isso cairão entre os mortos, no tempo do castigo cairão, diz o Senhor.
16 Thus saith the Lord: Stand ye on the ways, and see and ask for the old paths which is the good way, and walk ye in it: and you shall find refreshment for your souls. And they said: we will not walk.	16 Eis o que (também) diz o Senhor: Parai no caminho e vede, perguntai quais são as antigas veredas, qual o caminho da salvação e andai por ele, e achareis repouso para as vossas almas. Mas eles responderam: Não andaremos por ele.
17 And I appointed watchmen over you, saying: Hearken ye to the sound of the trumpet. And they said: We will not hearken.	17 Eu estabeleci sentinelas sobre vós. Ouvi a voz da sua trombeta. Mas eles responderam: Não queremos ouvir.
18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what great things I will do to them.	18 Portanto ouvi, ó nações, e tu, ó congregação dos povos; fica sabendo o que lhes acontecerá.
19 Hear, O earth: Behold I will bring evils upon this people, the fruits of their own thoughts: because they have not heard my words, and they have cast away my law.	19 Ouve terra! Eu farei vir uma calamidade sobre este povo, fruto dos seus (depravados) desígnios, porque não ouviram as minhas palavras, rejeitaram a minha lei.
20 To what purpose do you bring me frankincense from Saba, and the sweet smelling cane from a far country? your holocausts are not acceptable, nor are your sacrifices pleasing to me.	20 Que me interessa o incenso de Sabá, a cana aromática de terra longínqua? Os vossos holocaustos não me são agradáveis, as vossas vítimas não me agradam.
21 Therefore thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will bring destruction upon this people, by which fathers and sons together shall fall, neighbor and kinsman shall perish.	21 Portanto eis o que diz o Senhor: Porei diante deste povo pedras de tropeço, em que cairão juntamente os pais e os filhos, em que o vizinho e o amigo perecerão.
22 Thus saith the Lord: Behold a people cometh from the land of the north, and a great nation shall rise up from the ends of the earth.	22 Isto diz o Senhor: Eis que vem um povo da terra do aquilão, uma nação grande se levanta das extremidades da terra.
23 They shall lay hold on arrow and shield: they are cruel, and will have no mercy. Their voice shall roar like the sea: and they shall mount upon horses, prepared as men for war, against thee, O daughter of Sion.	23 Trazem na mão o arco e o dardo, são bárbaros, sem piedade; a sua voz soa como o mar; montam em cavalos, dispostos como um (só) homem a pelejar contra ti, filha de Sião.
24 We have heard the fame thereof, our hands grow feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, as a woman in labor.	24 Ouvimos a notícia; (dizem os Judeus) e as nossas mãos perderam a força; fomos surpreendidos pela tribulação, por dores semelhantes às da que está de parto.
25 Go not out into the fields, nor walk in the highway: for the sword of the enemy, and fear is on every side.	25 Não saias aos campos, nem andeis pelos caminhos, porque a espada do inimigo e o espanto cercam-nos por todos os lados.
26 Gird thee with sackcloth, O daughter of my people, and sprinkle thee with ashes: make thee mourning as for an only son, a bitter lamentation, because the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.	26 (Ó Jerusalém) filha do meu povo cinge-te de cilício, revolve-te na cinza; toma luto como por um filho único, chora amargamente, porque de repente virá sobre nós o destruidor.
27 I have set thee for a strong trier among my people: and thou shalt know and prove their way.	27 A ti (Jeremias) te constituí experimentador do meu povo, para que conheças e proves o seu proceder.
28 All of these princes go out of the way, they walk deceitfully, they are brass and iron: they are all corrupted.	28 Todos são rebeldes, semeadores de calúnias, são cobre e ferro; todos se corromperam.
29 The bellows have failed, the lead is consumed in the fire, the founder hath melted in vain: for their wicked deeds are not consumed.	29 Gastou-se o fole, o chumbo foi consumido no fogo; debalde se procura purificar, as escórias não se separam.
30 Call them reprobate silver, for the Lord hath rejected them.	30 Chamai-os uma prata de refugo, porque o Senhor os rejeitou.
