1 the Lord the Almighty, and he gave strength in his right hand, to take away the mighty warrior, and to set up the horn of his nation.	1 Le prophète Elie se leva ensuite comme un feu, et sa parole brûlait comme une torche.
2 And as the fat taken away from the flesh, so was David chosen from among the children of Israel.	2 Il amena contre eux la famine, et ceux qui l'irritaient par leur envie furent réduits à un petit nombre, car ils ne pouvaient supporter les préceptes du Seigneur.
3 He played with lions as with lambs: and with bears he did in like manner as with the lambs of the flock, in his youth.	3 Par la parole du Seigneur, il ferma le ciel, et il fit tomber trois fois le feu du ciel.
4 Did not he kill the giant, and take away reproach from his people?	4 C'est ainsi qu'Elie acquit de la gloire par ses miracles. Qui donc peut se glorifier comme toi,
5 In lifting up his hand, with the stone in the sling he beat down the boasting of Goliath:	5 toi qui as fait sortir un mort des enfers et l'as arraché au trépas par la parole du Seigneur Dieu;
6 For he called upoI	6 toi qui as pécipité les rois dans la ruine et qui as brisé sans peine leur puissance, et qui as fait tomber les superbes de leur lit;
7 So in ten thousand did he glorify him, and praised him in the blessings of the Lord, in offering to him a crown of glory:	7 toi qui entends la sentence sur le Sinaï, et les arrêts de la vengeance sur l'Horeb;
8 For he destroyed the enemies on every side, and extirpated the Philistines the adversaries unto this day: he broke their horn for ever.	8 toi qui sacres les rois pour le châtiment, et qui laisses après toi des prophètes pour te succéder;
9 In all his works he gave thanks to the holy one, and to the most High, with words of glory.	9 toi qui as été enlevé dans un tourbillon de flammes, sur un char traîné par des chevaux de feu;
10 With his whole heart he praised the Lord, and loved God that made him: and he gave him power against his enemies:	10 toi dont il est écrit qu'au temps des jugements tu viendras adoucir la colère du Seigneur, réconcilier le coeur du père avec le fils, et rétablir les tribus d'Israël?
11 And he set singers before the altar, and by their voices he made sweet melody.	11 Bienheureux ceux qui t'ont vu, et qui ont été honorés de ton amitié.
12 And to the festivals he added beauty, and set in order the solemn times even to the end of his life, that they should praise the holy name of the Lord, and magnify the holiness of God in the morning.	12 Car, pour nous, nous vivons seulement pendant cette vie; mais après la mort nous n'aurons pas un pareil nom.
13 The Lord took away his sine, and exalted his horn for ever: and he gave him a covenant of the kingdom, and a throne of glory in Israel.	13 Elie fut dérobé par le tourbillon, mais Elisée a été rempli de son esprit. Pendant sa vie, il ne redouta pas les princes, et nul ne triompha de lui par sa puissance.
14 After him arose up a wise son, and for his sake he cast down all the power of the enemies.	14 Rien ne le domina jamais, et après sa mort son corps prophétisa.
15 Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God brought all his enemies under him, that he might build a house in his name, and prepare a sanctuary for ever: O how wise wast thou in thy youth!	15 Pendant sa vie il fit des prodiges, et après sa mort il opéra des merveilles.
16 And thou wast filled as a river with wisdom, and thy soul covered the earth.	16 Mais malgré tout cela le peuple ne fit pas pénitence, et ils ne se sont point retirés de leurs péchés, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent été chassés de leur patrie et dispersés sur toute la terre.
17 And thou didst multiply riddles in parables: thy name went abroad to the islands far off, and thou wast beloved in thy peace.	17 Il n'est demeuré qu'un très petit reste du peuple, avec un prince de la maison de David.
18 The countries wondered at thee for thy canticles, and proverbs, and parables, and interpretations,	18 Quelques-uns d'entre eux firent ce qui plaisait à Dieu, mais les autres commirent beaucoup de péchés.
19 And at the name of the Lord God, whose surname is, God of Israel.	19 Ezéchias fortifia sa ville, et il fit venir l'eau à l'intérieur; il creusa le roc avec le fer, et bâtit un réservoir pour l'eau.
20 Thou didst gather gold as copper, and didst multiply silver as lead,	20 Durant son règne, Sennachérib monta et envoya Rabsacès, qui éleva sa main contre eux, étendit sa main contre Sion, et s'enorgueillit de sa puissance.
21 And thou didst bow thyself to women: and by thy body thou wast brought under subjection.	21 Alors l'effroi leur saisit le coeur et les mains, et ils furent dans la douleur comme une femme qui enfante.
22 Thou hast stained thy glory, and defiled thy seed so as to bring wrath upon thy children, and to have thy folly kindled,	22 Ils invoquèrent le Seigneur miséricordieux, et, étendant leurs mains, ils les élevèrent au ciel, et le Saint, le Seigneur Dieu, écouta aussitôt leur voix.
23 That thou shouldst make the kingdom to be divided, and out of Ephraim a rebellious kingdom to rule.	23 Il ne se souvint plus de leurs péchés, et ne les livra point à leurs ennemis; mais il les purifia par les mains d'Isaïe, le saint prophète.
24 But God will not leave off his mercy, and he will not destroy, nor abolish his own works, neither will he out up by the roots the offspring of his elect: and he will not utterly take away the seed of him that loveth the Lord.	24 Il renversa le camp des Assyriens, et l'Ange du Seigneur les tailla en pièces;
25 Wherefore he gave a remnant to Jacob, and to David of the same stock.	25 car Ezéchias fit ce qui plaisait à Dieu, et il marcha courageusement dans la voie de David son père, que lui avait recommandée Isaïe, le grand prophète, fidèle en présence de Dieu.
26 And Solomon had an end with his fathers.	26 De son temps, le soleil retourna en arrière, et il prolongea la vie du roi.
27 And he left behind him of his seed, the folly of the nation,	27 Par un grand don de l'Esprit, il vit la fin des temps, et il consola ceux qui pleuraient dans Sion. Jusqu'à la fin des temps
28 Even Roboam that had little wisdom, who turned away the people through his counsel:	28 il montra ce qui devait arriver, et les choses cachées avant qu'elles s'accomplissent.
29 And Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who caused Israel to sin, and shewed Ephraim the way of sin, and their sins were multiplied exceedingly.
30 They removed them far away from their land.
31 And they sought out all iniquities, till vengeance came upon them, and put an end to all their sine.
