Sirach 40

DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Great labour is created for all men, and a heavy yoke is upon the children of Adam, from the day of their coming out of their mother's womb, until the day of their burial into the mother of all.	1 Una occupazione grande è (nata e) creata a tutti li uomini, e grave giogo sopra li figliuoli di Adamo, dal die che uscirono del ventre della madre loro, infino nel die della sepoltura nella madre di tutti;
2 Their thoughts, and fears of the heart, their imagination of things to come, and the day of their end:	2 cioè li loro pensieri e le pagure del cuore e li trovamenti dell' aspettare e il dì dello affinimento (di questa occupazione);
3 From him that sitteth on a glorious throne, unto him that is humbled in earth and ashes:	3 da colui che siede (Signore) nella gloriosa sede insino a colui che è abbassato in terra e in cenere;
4 From him that weareth purple, and beareth the crown, even to him that is covered with rough linen: wrath, envy, trouble, unquietness, and the fear of death, continual anger, and strife,	4 e da colui che usa il color (rosato ovver) celeste, e porta corona, infino a colui che è coperto di lino crudo; furore, gelosia, rumore, tempesta, paura di morte, perseverante iracundia e contenzione,
5 And in the time of rest upon his bed, the sleep of the night changeth his knowledge.	5 e nel tempo della refezione nella camera il sogno della notte (che) muta la scienza sua.
6 A little and as nothing is his rest, and afterward in sleep, as in the day of keeping watch.	6 Poco come niente sta in riposo, e da lui si vede nel sonno, sì come nel dì si fa ragguardamento.
7 He is troubled in the vision of his heart, as if he had escaped in the day of battle. In the time of his safety he rose up, and wondereth that there is no fear:	7 Conturbato è nel sogno del cuore suo, sì come è conturbato colui ch' è scampato il die della battaglia; levossi suso nel tempo della sua salute, e maravigliandosi (della sua grandezza), nulla temea delle cose che sono,
8 Such things happen to all flesh, from man even to beast, and upon sinners are sevenfold mere.	8 dall' uomo infino alla bestia, e sopra li peccatori sette cotanti.
9 Moreover, death, and bloodshed, strife, and sword, oppressions, famine, and affliction, and scourges:	9 A queste cose (oltre le predette) si aggiugne morte, sangue, contenzione, mortalità, oppressione, fame e dicertamento e battiture.
10 All these things are created for the wicked, and for their sakes came the flood.	10 Tutte queste cose sono create sopra li iniqui, e però fu fatto il diluvio.
11 All things that are of the earth, shall return to the earth again, and all waters shall return to the sea.	11 (Però) tutte le cose, che sono di terra, in terra rivertiranno; e tutte l'acque ritorneranno in mare.
12 All bribery, and injustice shall blotted out, and fidelity shall stand for ever.	12 Ogni dono (temporale) e iniquitade si disfarae; e la fede durerà sempre.
13 The riches of the unjust shall be dried up like a river, and shall pass sway a noise like a great thunder in rain.	13 Le facultadi delle iniquitadi sì come fiume si seccheranno, e staranno sì come il grande tuono alla piova.
14 While he openeth his hands he shall rejoice: but transgressors shall pine away in the end.	14 In aprire le mani sue s'allegrerà; così li peccatori languiranno nella fine.
15 The offspring of the ungodly shall not bring forth many branches, and make a noise as unclean roots upon the top of a rock.	15 Li nipoti degl' impii non multiplicheranno rami; e le radici corrotte suonano in su la sommitade della pietra.
16 The weed growing over every water, and at the bank of the river, shall be pulled up before all grass.	16 La verdezza sopra ogni acqua, e alla bocca del fiume sarà divelta prima che nullo fieno.
17 Grace is like a paradise in blessings, and mercy remaineth for ever.	17 La grazia sì come il paradiso permane (sempre) nelle benedizioni; e la misericordia starà in eterno.
18 The life of a labourer that is content with what he hath, shall be sweet, and in it thou shalt find a treasure.	18 La vita dell' operario, lo quale è sufficiente a sè, s'addolcerae; e in lei troverai tesoro.
19 Children, and the building of a city shall establish a name, but a blameless wife shall be counted above them both.	19 O figliuolo, lo edificamento della cittade confermerae la fama dello edificatore; e sopra questa fia computata la fen:ina sanza macula.
20 Wine and music rejoice the heart, but the love of wisdom is above them both.	20 Il vino e la musica allegrano il cuore; e sopra l'uno e l'altra la dilezione della sapienza.
21 The flute and the psaltery make a sweet melody, but a pleasant tongue is above them both.	21 Le pifare e li salteri fanno soave melodia; e sopra l'una e l'altro è la lingua suave.
22 Thy eye desireth favour and beauty, but more than these green sown fields.	22 L'occhio desidera di vedere le cose belle e ben formate; e sopra questo desideroe verdi campi.
23 A friend and companion meeting together in season, but above them both is a wife with her husband.	23 L'amico e il compagno, che nel tempo sono convenevoli, si provano; e sopra amendue la moglie col marito.
24 Brethren are a help in the time of trouble, but mercy shall deliver more than they.	24 Sono li fratelli in adiutorio nel tempo della tribulazione; e la misericordia, che sopra di loro è, li libererà.
25 Gold and silver make the feet stand sure: but wise counsel is above them both.	25 Oro e argento è stabilmento de' piedi; e sopra amendue lo buono e unanime consiglio.
26 Riches and strength lift up the heart: but above these is the fear of the Lord.	26 Le facoltadi e le potenze corporali esaltano il cuore; e sopra ciascuna d'esse il timore di Dio.
27 There is no want in the fear of the Lord, and it needeth not to seek for help.	27 Non è nel timore di Dio diminuzione, e non è bisogno in quello cercare altro adiutorio.
28 The fear of the Lord is like a paradise of blessing, and they have covered it above all glory.	28 Il timore di Dio è sì come paradiso di benedizione, e sopra ogni gloria coprirono quello.
29 My son, in thy lifetime be not indigent: for it is better to die than to want.	29 Figliuolo, nel tempo della vita tua non sii mendico; però ch' egli è meglio morire, che mendicare.
30 The life of him that looketh toward another man's table is not to be counted a life: for he feedeth his soul with another man's meat.	30 L'uomo che guarda ad altrui mensa, non è la vita sua disposta in pensare dond' egli viva; però ch' egli nutrica l'anima sua con gli altrui cibi.
31 But a man, well instructed and taught, will look to himself.	31 L'uomo addottrinato e ammaestrato si guarderae da questo.
32 Begging will be sweet in the mouth of the unwise, but in his belly there shall burn a fire.	32 La inopia fia abbattuta nella bocca dello isciocco; il fuoco arderà nel ventre suo.
