Job 34

1 And Eliu continued his discourse, and said :	1 Eliu, continuant encore de parler, le fit en ces termes:
2 Hear ye, wise men, my words, and ye learned, hearken to me :	2 Sages, écoutez mes paroles; savants, soyez attentifs.
3 For the ear trieth words, and the mouth discerneth meats by the taste.	3 Car l'oreille juge les paroles, comme le palais juge les mets par le goût.
4 Let us choose to us judgment, and let us see among ourselves what is the best.	4 Convenons ensemble de ce qui est selon la justice, et voyons entre nous ce qui est le meilleur.
5 For Job hath said : I am just, and God hath overthrown my judgment.	5 Car Job a dit: Je suis juste, et Dieu a renversé mon droit.
6 For in judging me there is a lie : my arrow is violent without any sin.	6 Car la manière dont j'ai été jugé est mensongère: je suis percé de flèches cuisantes sans avoir péché.
7 What man is there like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?	7 Où trouver un homme semblable à Job, qui boit le blasphème comme l'eau?
8 Who goeth in company with them that work iniquity, and walketh with wicked men?	8 Il marche avec ceux qui commettent l'iniquité, et il se joint avec les impies.
9 For he hath said : Man shall not please God, although he run with him.	9 Car il a dit: L'homme ne saurait plaire à Dieu, quand même il courrait avec Lui.
10 Therefore, ye men of understanding, hear me : far from god be wickedness, and iniquity from the Almighty.	10 Vous donc, hommes de sens, écoutez-moi. Loin de Dieu l'impiété, et loin du Tout-Puissant l'injustice.
11 For he will render to a man his work, and according to the ways of every one he will reward them.	11 Car Il rendra à l'homme selon ses oeuvres, et Il rétribuera chacun selon ses voies.
12 For in very deed God will not condemn without cause, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.	12 Non, certes, Dieu ne condamne pas sans sujet, et le Tout-Puissant ne reverse pas la justice.
13 What other hath he appointed over the earth? or whom hath he set over the world which he made?	13 A quel autre a-t-Il confié le soin de la terre? Et qui a-t-Il établi pour gouverner le monde qu'Il a créé?
14 If he turn his heart to him, he shall draw his spirit and breath unto himself.	14 S'il regardait l'homme dans Sa rigueur, Il attirerait à Soi l'esprit qui l'anime.
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return into ashes.	15 Toute chair périrait à la fois, et l'homme retournerait en poussière.
16 If then thou hast understanding, hear what is said, and hearken to the voice of my words.	16 Si donc tu as de l'intelligence, écoute ce que l'on te dit, et sois attentif à mes paroles.
17 Can he be healed that loveth not judgment? and how dost thou so far condemn him that is just?	17 Peut-on guérir ce qui n'aime point la justice? et comment condamnes-tu avec tant de hardiesse Celui qui est juste?
18 Who saith to the king : Thou art an apostate : who calleth rulers ungodly?	18 Lui qui dit à un roi: Apostat; qui appelle les grands: Impies;
19 Who accepteth not the persons of princes : nor hath regarded the tyrant, when he contended against the poor man : for all are the work of his hands.	19 qui n'a point d'égard à la personne des princes; qui n'a point de considération pour le tyran lorsqu'il dispute contre le pauvre; car tous sont l'oeuvre de Ses mains.
20 They shall suddenly die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and they shall pass, and take away the violent without hand.	20 Ils mourront soudain, et au milieu de la nuit les peuples seront remplis de trouble; ils passeront, et le violent sera emporté par une main invisible.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he considereth all their steps.	21 Car les yeux de Dieu sont sur les voies des hommes, et Il considère tous leurs pas.
22 There is no darkness, and there is no shadow of death, where they may be hid who work iniquity.	22 Il n'y a pas de ténèbres, il n'y a pas d'ombre de la mort où puissent se cacher ceux qui commettent l'iniquité.
23 For it is no longer in the power of man to enter into judgment with God.	23 Car il n'est plus au pouvoir de l'homme de venir en jugement devant Dieu.
24 He shall break in pieces many and innumerable, and shall make others to stand in their stead.	24 Il en brisera une multitude innombrable, et Il en établira d'autres à leur place.
25 For he knoweth their works : and therefore he shall bring night on them, and they shall be destroyed.	25 Car Il connaît leurs oeuvres, et c'est pour cela qu'Il répandra la nuit sur eux, et qu'Il les brisera.
26 He hath struck them, as being wicked, in open sight.	26 Il les frappera comme des impies, à la vue de tout le monde:
27 Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways :	27 eux qui se sont retirés de Lui comme à dessein, et qui n'ont pas voulu comprendre toutes Ses voies,
28 So that they caused the cry of the needy to come to him, and he heard the voice of the poor.	28 pour faire monter jusqu'à Lui le cri de l'indigent, et pour Lui faire entendre la voix des pauvres.
29 For when he granteth peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hideth his countenance, who is there that can behold him, whether it regard nations, or all men?	29 Car, s'Il donne la paix, quel est celui qui Le condamnera? S'Il cache Son visage, qui Le contemplera, qu'il s'agisse des nations en général, ou de tous les hommes?
30 Who maketh a man that is a hypocrite to reign for the sins of the people?	30 C'est Lui qui fait régner l'homme hypocrite, à cause des péchés du peuple.
31 Seeing then I have spoken of God, I will not hinder thee in thy turn.	31 Puis donc que j'ai parlé à Dieu, je ne t'empêcherai pas non plus de le faire.
32 If I have erred, teach thou me : if I have spoken iniquity, I will add no more.	32 Si je me suis trompé, enseigne-moi; si ce que j'ai dit n'est pas juste, je n'ajouterai rien de plus.
33 Doth God require it of thee, because it hath displeased thee? for thou begannest to speak, and not I. : but if thou know any thing better, speak.	33 Dieu te demandera-t-Il ton avis, si une chose t'a déplu? car c'est toi qui as commencé à parler, et non pas moi. Si tu sais quelque chose de meilleur, dis-le.
34 Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man hearken to me.	34 Que les hommes intelligents me parlent, et que l'homme sage m'écoute.
35 But Job hath spoken foolishly, and his words sound not discipline.	35 Mais Job a parlé inconsidérément, et il ne paraît point de sagesse dans ses discours.
36 My father, let Job be tried even to the end : cease not from the man of iniquity.	36 Mon Père, que Job soit éprouvé jusqu'â la fin; n'épargnez point l'homme d'iniquité.
37 Because he addeth blasphemy upon his sins, let him be tied fast in the mean time amongst us : and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.	37 Puisqu'il ajoute le blasphème à ses péchés, qu'il soit encore mis dans l'angoisse parmi nous, et ensuite qu'il appelle Dieu en jugement par ses discours.
