1 And Abraham married another wife, named Cetura:	1 Abramo prese un’altra moglie che si chiamava Ketura.
2 Who bore to him Zamran, and Jecsan, and Madan, and Madian, and Jesboc, and Sue.	2 Essa gli partorì Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Madian, Jishbok e Shuakh.
3 Jecsan also begot Saba and Dadan. The children of Dadan were Assurim, and Latusim, and Loomin.	3 Jokshan generò Saba e Dedan; i figli di Dedan furono gli Asshurim, i Letushim e i Leummim;
4 But of Madian was born Epha, and Opher, and Henoch, and Abida, and Eldaa: all these were the children of Cetura.	4 figli di Madian: Efa, Efer, Henoch, Abida ed Eldaa. Tutti questi sono i figli di Ketura.
5 And Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac.	5 Abramo diede tutti i suoi beni a Isacco.
6 And to the children of the concubines he gave gifts, and separated them from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, to the east country.	6 Quanto invece ai figli delle concubine che Abramo aveva avuto, Abramo diede loro dei doni, poi, mentre ancora era in vita, li mandò lontano da Isacco suo figlio verso oriente, nella terra d’oriente.
7 And the days of Abraham's life were a hundred and seventy-five years.	7 Questa è la durata degli anni della vita di Abramo: centosettantacinque anni.
8 And decaying he died in a good old age, and having lived a long time, and being full of days: and was gathered to his people.	8 Poi Abramo spirò e morì dopo una felice vecchiaia, vecchio e sazio di giorni: fu riunito ai suoi antenati
9 And Isaac and Ismael his sons buried him in the double cave, which was situated in the field of Ephron the son of Seor the Hethite, over against Mambre;	9 e fu sepolto dai suoi figli, Isacco e Ismaele, nella caverna di Machpela, nel campo di Efron figlio di Zokhar, l’Hittita, di fronte a Mambre.
10 Which he had bought of the children of Heth: there was he buried, and Sara his wife.	10 È appunto il campo che Abramo aveva comperato dagli Hittiti: là furono sepolti Abramo e Sara sua moglie.
11 And after his death, God blessed Isaac his son, who dwelt by the well named Of the living and seeing.	11 E, dopo la morte di Abramo, Dio benedisse Isacco suo figlio; Isacco: abitò presso il pozzo di Lakhai-Roi.
12 These are the generations of Ismael the son of Abraham, whom Agar the Egyptian, Sara's servant, bore unto him:	12 Questa è la discendenza di Ismaele figlio di Abramo, che Hagar l’Egiziana, schiava di Sara, aveva quarto ad Abramo.
13 And these are the names of his children according to their calling and generations. The firstborn of Ismael was Nabajoth, then Cedar, and Adbeel, and Mabsam.	13 Questi sono i nomi dei figli di Ismaele, con i loro nomi in ordine di generazione: il primogenito di Ismaele è Nebaiot, poi Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
14 And Masma, and Duma, and Massa,	14 Mishma, Duma, Massa;
15 Hadar, and Thema, and Jethur, and Naphis, and Cedma.	15 Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Nafish e Kedma.
16 These are the sons of Ismael: and these are their names by their castles and towns, twelve princes of their tribes.	16 Questi sono i figli di Ismaele e questi sono i loro nomi e quelli dei loro attendamenti e accampamenti. Sono i dodici principi delle relative tribù.
17 And the years of Ismael's life were a hundred and thirty-seven, and decaying he died, and was gathered unto his people.	17 Questi sono gli anni di vita di Ismaele: centotrentasette anni; poi spirò e morì e fu riunito ai suoi antenati.
18 And he dwelt from Hevila as far as Sur, which looketh towards Egypt, to them that go towards the Assyrians. He died in the presence of all his brethren.	18 Egli abitò da Havila fino a Shur che è lungo il confine d’Egitto, fin verso l’Assiria: egli si era stabilito di fronte a tutti i suoi fratelli.
19 These also are the generations of Isaac the son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac:	19 Questa è la storia della discendenza di Isacco, figlio di Abramo. Abramo aveva generato Isacco.
20 Who when he was forty years old, took to wife Rebecca the daughter of Bathuel the Syrian of Mesopotamia, sister to Laban.	20 Isacco aveva quarant’anni quando sposò Rebecca, figlia di Batuel l’Arameo da Paddan-Aram, e sorella di Labano l’Arameo.
21 And Isaac besought the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and he heard him, and made Rebecca to conceive.	21 Poi Isacco supplicò Jahvè per sua moglie, perché essa era sterile; Jahvè lo esaudì e Rebecca sua moglie restò incinta.
22 But the children struggled in her womb: and she said: If it were to be so with me, what need was there to conceive? And she went to consult the Lord.	22 Ma i figli si urtavano dentro di lei, onde essa disse: «Se è così, perché vivere?» Andò a consultare Jahvè
23 And he answering said: Two nations are in thy womb, and two peoples shall be divided out of thy womb, and one people shall overcome the other, and the elder shall serve the younger.	23 e Jahvè le disse: «Due nazioni sono nel tuo grembo e due genti si dirameranno dalle tue viscere; una gente sarà più forte dell’altra e il maggiore servirà il minore».
24 And when her time was come to be delivered, behold twins were found in her womb.	24 Quando poi si compì per lei il tempo in cui doveva partorire, ecco: due gemelli le stavano nel grembo.
25 He that came forth first was red, and hairy like a skin: and his name was called Esau. Immediately the other coming forth, held his brother's foot in his hand, and therefore he was called Jacob.	25 Uscì il primo, rossiccio e tutto peloso come un mantello, e fu chiamato Esaù.
26 Isaac was threescore years old when the children were born unto him.	26 Subito dopo, uscì suo fratello nell’atto di tenere con la mano il calcagno di Esaù e fu chiamato Giacobbe. Ora Isacco aveva sessant’anni alla loro nascita.
27 And when they were grown up, Esau became a skillful hunter, and a husbandman, but Jacob a plain man dwelt in tents.	27 I fanciulli crebbero ed Esaù divenne un cacciatore, un uomo della campagna, mentre Giacobbe era un uomo, tranquillo che abitava sotto le tende.
28 Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his hunting: and Rebecca loved Jacob.	28 Isacco prese ad amare. Esaù perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto, mentre Rebecca amava Giacobbe.
29 And Jacob boiled Pottage: to whom Esau, coming faint out of the field,	29 Una volta Giacobbe aveva cotto una minestra di lenticchie; arrivò Esaù dalla campagna ed era spossato.
30 Said: Give me of this red pottage, for I am exceeding faint. For which reason his name was called Edom.	30 Disse allora Esaù a Giacobbe: «Fammi trangugiare un po’ di questa pietanza rossa perché sono spossato». Perciò fu chiamato Edom.
31 And Jacob said to him: Sell me thy first birthright.	31 Giacobbe disse: «Prima, vendimi la tua primogenitura».
32 He answered: Lo I die, what will the first birthright avail me.	32 Rispose Esaù: «Eccomi sul punto di morire; a che cosa mi serve la primogenitura?»
33 Jacob said: Swear therefore to me. Esau swore to him, and sold his first birthright.	33 Giacobbe allora disse: «Giuramelo subito». Quegli glielo giurò e vendette la primogenitura a Giacobbe.
34 And so taking bread and the pottage of lentils, he ate, and drank, and went his way; making little account of having sold his first birthright.	34 Giacobbe allora diede pane e minestra di lenticchie a Esaù che mangiò e bevve, poi si alzò e se ne andò. Così Esaù disprezzò la primogenitura.
