Lettera ai Galati 5

1 STATE adunque fermi nella libertà, della quale Cristo ci ha francati, e non siate di nuovo ristretti sotto il giogo della servitù.	1 Stand firm, and do not be willing to be again held by the yoke of servitude.
2 Ecco, io Paolo vi dico che se siete circoncisi, Cristo non vi gioverà nulla.	2 Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if you have been circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
3 E da capo testifico ad ogni uomo che si circoncide, ch’egli è obbligato ad osservar tutta la legge.	3 For I again testify, about every man circumcising himself, that he is obligated to act according to the entire law.
4 O voi, che siete giustificati per la legge, Cristo non ha più alcuna virtù in voi; voi siete scaduti dalla grazia.	4 You are being emptied of Christ, you who are being justified by the law. You have fallen from grace.
5 Perciocchè noi, in Ispirito, per fede, aspettiamo la speranza della giustizia.	5 For in spirit, by faith, we await the hope of justice.
6 Poichè in Cristo Gesù nè la circoncisione, nè l’incirconcisione non è d’alcun valore; ma la fede operante per carità.	6 For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision prevails over anything, but only faith which works through charity.
7 Voi correvate bene; chi vi ha dato sturbo per non prestar fede alla verità?	7 You have run well. So what has impeded you, that you would not obey the truth?
8 Questa persuasione non è da colui che vi chiama.	8 This kind of influence is not from him who is calling you.
9 Un poco di lievito lievita tutta la pasta.	9 A little leaven corrupts the whole mass.
10 Io mi confido di voi nel Signore, che non avrete altro sentimento; ma colui che vi turba ne porterà la pena, chiunque egli si sia.	10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will accept nothing of the kind. However, he who disturbs you shall bear the judgment, whomever he may be.
11 Ora, quant’è a me, fratelli, se io predico ancora la circoncisione, perchè sono ancora perseguito? lo scandalo della croce è pur tolto via.	11 And as for me, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still suffering persecution? For then the scandal of the Cross would be made empty.
12 Oh! fosser pur eziandio ricisi coloro che vi turbano!	12 And I wish that those who disturb you would be torn away.
13 Poichè voi siete stati chiamati a libertà, fratelli; sol non prendete questa libertà per un’occasione alla carne; ma servite gli uni agli altri per la carità.	13 For you, brothers, have been called to liberty. Only you must not make liberty into an occasion for the flesh, but instead, serve one another through the charity of the Spirit.
14 Perciocchè tutta la legge si adempie in questa unica parola: Ama il tuo prossimo, come te stesso.	14 For the entire law is fulfilled by one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 Che se voi vi mordete, e divorate gli uni gli altri, guardate che non siate consumati gli uni dagli altri.	15 But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you are not consumed by one another!
16 OR io dico: Camminate secondo lo Spirito, e non adempiete la concupiscenza della carne.	16 So then, I say: Walk in the spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
17 Poichè la carne appetisce contro allo Spirito, e lo Spirito contro alla carne; e queste cose son ripugnanti l’una all’altra; acciocchè non facciate qualunque cosa volete.	17 For the flesh desires against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. And since these are against one another, you may not do whatever you want.
18 Che se siete condotti per lo Spirito, voi non siete sotto la legge.	18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Ora, manifeste son le opere della carne, che sono: adulterio, fornicazione, immondizia, dissoluzione,	19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest; they are: fornication, lust, homosexuality, self-indulgence,
20 idolatria, avvelenamento, inimicizie, contese, gelosie, ire, risse, dissensioni,	20 the serving of idols, drug use, hostility, contentiousness, jealousy, wrath, quarrels, dissensions, divisions,
21 sette, invidie, omicidii, ebbrezze, ghiottonerie, e cose a queste simiglianti; delle quali cose vi predico, come ancora già ho predetto, che coloro che fanno cotali cose non erederanno il regno di Dio.	21 envy, murder, inebriation, carousing, and similar things. About these things, I continue to preach to you, as I have preached to you: that those who act in this way shall not obtain the kingdom of God.
22 Ma il frutto dello Spirito è: carità, allegrezza, pace, lentezza all’ira, benignità, bontà, fedeltà, mansuetudine, continenza.	22 But the fruit of the Spirit is charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, forbearance,
23 Contro a cotali cose non vi è legge.	23 meekness, faith, modesty, abstinence, chastity. There is no law against such things.
24 Or coloro che son di Cristo hanno crocifissa la carne con gli affetti, e con le concupiscenze.	24 For those who are Christ’s have crucified their flesh, along with its vices and desires.
25 Se noi viviamo per lo Spirito, camminiamo altresì per lo Spirito.	25 If we live by the Spirit, we should also walk by the Spirit.
26 Non siamo vanagloriosi, provocandoci gli uni gli altri, invidiandoci gli uni gli altri	26 Let us not become desirous of empty glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
