DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 IN quello stesso tempo furono quivi alcuni, i quali gli fecer rapporto de’ Galilei, il cui sangue Pilato avea mescolato co’ lor sacrificii.	1 It was just about this time that some people arrived and told him about the Galileans whose bloodPilate had mingled with that of their sacrifices. At this he said to them,
2 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Pensate voi che que’ Galilei fossero i maggiori peccatori di tutti i Galilei, perciocchè hanno sofferte cotali cose?	2 'Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than any others, that this should havehappened to them?
3 No, vi dico, anzi, se voi non vi ravvedete, tutti perirete simigliantemente.	3 They were not, I tel you. No; but unless you repent you wil al perish as they did.
4 Ovvero, pensate voi che que’ diciotto, sopra i quali cadde la torre in Siloe, e li uccise fossero i più colpevoli di tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme?	4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower at Siloam fel , kil ing them al ? Do you suppose that they weremore guilty than al the other people living in Jerusalem?
5 No, vi dico, anzi, se voi non vi ravvedete, tutti perirete simigliantemente	5 They were not, I tel you. No; but unless you repent you wil al perish as they did.'
6 OR disse questa parabola: Un uomo avea un fico piantato nella sua vigna; e venne cercandovi del frutto, e non ne trovò.	6 He told this parable, 'A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on itbut found none.
7 Onde disse al vignaiuolo: Ecco, già son tre anni che io vengo, cercando del frutto in questo fico, e non ve ne trovo; taglialo; perchè rende egli ancora inutile la terra?	7 He said to his vinedresser, "For three years now I have been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree andfinding none. Cut it down: why should it be taking up the ground?"
8 Ma egli, rispondendo, gli disse: Signore, lascialo ancora quest’anno, finchè io l’abbia scalzato, e vi abbia messo del letame;	8 "Sir," the man replied, "leave it one more year and give me time to dig round it and manure it:
9 e se pur fa frutto, bene; se no, nell’avvenire tu lo taglierai	9 it may bear fruit next year; if not, then you can cut it down." '
10 OR egli insegnava in una delle sinagoghe, in giorno di sabato.	10 One Sabbath day he was teaching in one of the synagogues,
11 Ed ecco, quivi era una donna che avea uno spirito d’infermità già per ispazio di diciotto anni, ed era tutta piegata, e non poteva in alcun modo ridirizzarsi.	11 and there before him was a woman who for eighteen years had been possessed by a spirit thatcrippled her; she was bent double and quite unable to stand upright.
12 E Gesù, vedutala, la chiamò a sè, e le disse: Donna, tu sei liberata dalla tua infermità.	12 When Jesus saw her he cal ed her over and said, 'Woman, you are freed from your disability,'
13 E pose le mani sopra lei, ed ella in quello stante fu ridirizzata, e glorificava Iddio.	13 and he laid his hands on her. And at once she straightened up, and she glorified God.
14 Ma il capo della sinagoga, sdegnato che Gesù avesse fatta guarigione in giorno di sabato, prese a dire alla moltitudine: Vi son sei giorni, ne’ quali convien lavorare; venite adunque in que’ giorni, e siate guariti; e non nel giorno del sabato.	14 But the president of the synagogue was indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, and headdressed all those present saying, 'There are six days when work is to be done. Come and be healed on one ofthose days and not on the Sabbath.'
15 Laonde il Signore gli rispose, e disse: Ipocriti! ciascun di voi non iscioglie egli dalla mangiatoia, in giorno di sabato, il suo bue, o il suo asino, e li mena a bere?	15 But the Lord answered him and said, 'Hypocrites! Is there one of you who does not untie his ox or hisdonkey from the manger on the Sabbath and take it out for watering?
16 E non conveniva egli scioglier da questo legame, in giorno di sabato, costei, ch’è figliuola d’Abrahamo, la qual Satana avea tenuta legata lo spazio di diciotto anni?	16 And this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has held bound these eighteen years -- was itnot right to untie this bond on the Sabbath day?'
17 E mentre egli diceva queste cose, tutti i suoi avversari erano confusi; ma tutta la moltitudine si rallegrava di tutte le opere gloriose che si facevano da lui	17 When he said this, all his adversaries were covered with confusion, and al the people were overjoyedat al the wonders he worked.
18 OR egli disse: A che è simile il regno di Dio, ed a che l’assomiglierò io?	18 He went on to say, 'What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it with?
19 Egli è simile ad un granel di senape, il quale un uomo ha preso, e l’ha gettato nel suo orto; e poi è cresciuto, ed è divenuto albero grande; e gli uccelli del cielo si son ridotti al coperto ne’ suoi rami.	19 It is like a mustard seed which a man took and threw into his garden: it grew and became a tree, andthe birds of the air sheltered in its branches.'
20 E di nuovo disse: A che assomiglierò il regno di Dio?	20 Again he said, 'What shall I compare the kingdom of God with?
21 Egli è simile al lievito, il quale una donna prende, e lo ripone in tre staia di farina, finchè tutta sia levitata.	21 It is like the yeast a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour til it was leavened althrough.'
22 POI egli andava attorno per le città, e per le castella, insegnando, e facendo cammino verso Gerusalemme	22 Through towns and vil ages he went teaching, making his way to Jerusalem.
23 Or alcuno gli disse: Signore, sono eglino pochi coloro che son salvati?	23 Someone said to him, 'Sir, wil there be only a few saved?' He said to them,
24 Ed egli disse loro: Sforzatevi d’entrar per la porta stretta, perciocchè io vi dico che molti cercheranno d’entrare, e non potranno.	24 'Try your hardest to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many wil try to enter and wil notsucceed.
25 Ora, da che il padron della casa si sarà levato, ed avrà serrato l’uscio, voi allora, stando difuori, comincerete a picchiare alla porta, dicendo: Signore, Signore, aprici. Ed egli, rispondendo, vi dirà: Io non so d’onde voi siate.	25 'Once the master of the house has got up and locked the door, you may find yourself standingoutside knocking on the door, saying, "Lord, open to us," but he will answer, "I do not know where you comefrom."
26 Allora prenderete a dire: Noi abbiam mangiato, e bevuto in tua presenza; e tu hai insegnato nelle nostre piazze.	26 Then you wil start saying, "We once ate and drank in your company; you taught in our streets,"
27 Ma egli dirà: Io vi dico che non so d’onde voi siate; dipartitevi da me, voi tutti gli operatori d’iniquità.	27 but he wil reply, "I do not know where you come from; away from me, al evil doers!"
28 Quivi sarà il pianto e lo stridor de’ denti, quando vedrete Abrahamo, Isacco, e Giacobbe, e tutti i profeti, nel regno di Dio; e che voi ne sarete cacciati fuori.	28 'Then there wil be weeping and grinding of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob andal the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrown out.
29 E che ne verranno d’Oriente, e d’Occidente, e di Settentrione, e di Mezzodì, i quali sederanno a tavola nel regno di Dio.	29 And people from east and west, from north and south, wil come and sit down at the feast in thekingdom of God.
30 Ed ecco, ve ne son degli ultimi che saranno i primi, e de’ primi che saranno gli ultimi	30 'Look, there are those now last who will be first, and those now first who wil be last.'
31 IN quello stesso giorno vennero alcuni Farisei, dicendogli: Partiti, e vattene di qui, perciocchè Erode ti vuol far morire.	31 Just at this time some Pharisees came up. 'Go away,' they said. 'Leave this place, because Herodmeans to kill you.'
32 Ed egli disse loro: Andate, e dite a quella volpe: Ecco, io caccio i demoni, e compio di far guarigioni oggi, e domani, e nel terzo giorno perverrò al mio fine.	32 He replied, 'You may go and give that fox this message: Look! Today and tomorrow I drive out devilsand heal, and on the third day I attain my end.
33 Ma pure, mi convien camminare oggi, domani, e posdomani; poichè non conviene che alcun profeta muoia fuor di Gerusalemme.	33 But for today and tomorrow and the next day I must go on, since it would not be right for a prophet todie outside Jerusalem.
34 Gerusalemme, Gerusalemme, che uccidi i profeti, e lapidi coloro che ti son mandati! quante volte ho voluto raccogliere i tuoi figliuoli, come la gallina raccoglie i suoi pulcini sotto le ale, e voi non avete voluto!	34 'Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kil the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How oftenhave I longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you refused!
35 Ecco, la vostra casa vi è lasciata deserta. Or io vi dico, che voi non mi vedrete più, finchè venga il tempo che diciate: Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore!	35 Look! Your house wil be left to you. Yes, I promise you, you shal not see me till the time comeswhen you are saying: Blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord!'
