Il povero, che cammina nella sua integrità, Val meglio che il perverso di labbra, il quale è stolto | 1 Better the poor living an honest life than the adept at double-talk who is a fool. |
Come chi è frettoloso di piedi incappa; Così non vi è alcun bene, quando l’anima è senza conoscimento | 2 Where knowledge is wanting, zeal is not good; whoever goes too quickly stumbles. |
La stoltizia dell’uomo perverte la via di esso; E pure il suo cuore dispetta contro al Signore | 3 Folly leads conduct astray, yet it is against Yahweh that the heart rages. |
Le ricchezze aggiungono amici in gran numero; Ma il misero è separato dal suo intimo amico | 4 Wealth multiplies friends, but the one friend the poor has is taken away. |
Il falso testimonio non resterà impunito, E chi sbocca menzogne non iscamperà | 5 The false witness wil not go unpunished, no one who utters lies wil go free. |
| 6 The nobleman has many to court his favour, to a giver of gifts, everyone is friend. |
Egli con parole li supplica, ma essi se ne vanno | 7 The poor man's brothers hate him, every one; his friends -- how much the more do these desert him!He goes in search of words, but there are none to be had. |
Chi acquista senno ama l’anima sua; Chi osserva l’intendimento troverà del bene | 8 Whoever acquires sense wins profit from it, whoever treasures understanding finds happiness. |
Il falso testimonio non resterà impunito, E chi sbocca menzogne perirà | 9 The false witness wil not go unpunished, whoever utters lies wil be destroyed. |
| 10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, stil less for a slave to govern princes. |
Il senno dell’uomo rallenta l’ira di esso; E la sua gloria è di passar sopra le offese | 11 Good sense makes for self-control, and for pride in overlooking an offence. |
Like the roaring of a lion, the anger of a king, but like dew on the grass his favour. |
A foolish child is a disaster for the father, the bickerings of a wife are like an ever-dripping gutter. |
From fathers comes inheritance of house and wealth, from Yahweh a wife who is discreet. |
La pigrizia fa cadere in profondo sonno; E la persona negligente avrà fame | 15 Idleness lul s to sleep, the feckless soul wil go hungry. |
Chi osserva il comandamento guarda l’anima sua; Ma chi trascura le sue vie morrà | 16 Keeping the commandment is self-preservation, but whoever despises these ways wil die. |
Chi dona al povero presta al Signore; Ed egli gli farà la sua retribuzione | 17 Whoever is kind to the poor is lending to Yahweh who wil repay him the kindness done. |
Gastiga il tuo figliuolo, mentre vi è ancora della speranza; Ma non imprender già di ucciderlo | 18 While there is hope for him, chastise your child, but do not get so angry as to kill him. |
Chi è grandemente iracondo ne porterà la pena; Che se tu lo scampi, tu lo renderai vie più iracondo | 19 The violent lays himself open to a penalty; spare him, and you aggravate his crime. |
Ascolta consiglio, e ricevi correzione, Acciocchè tu diventi savio alla fine | 20 Listen to advice, accept correction, to be the wiser in the time to come. |
Many are the plans in the human heart, but the purpose of Yahweh -- that stands firm. |
La benignità dell’uomo è il suo ornamento; E meglio vale il povero, che l’uomo bugiardo | 22 Faithful love is what people look for in a person; they prefer the poor to a liar. |
Il timor del Signore è a vita; E chi lo teme passerà la notte sazio, e non sarà visitato da alcun male | 23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, it brings food and shelter, without fear of evil. |
Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but bring it back to his mouth he cannot. |
Percuoti lo schernitore, e il semplice ne diventerà avveduto; E se tu correggi l’uomo intendente, egli intenderà la scienza | 25 Strike a cynic, and simpletons wil be more wary; reprove the intel igent and he wil understand yourmeaning. |
Il figliuolo che fa vergogna e vituperio, Ruina il padre, e scaccia la madre | 26 He who il -treats his father and drives out his mother is a child both worthless and depraved. |
Figliuol mio, ascoltando l’ammaestramento, Rimanti di deviare da’ detti di scienza | 27 Give up listening to instruction, my child, if you mean to stray from words of knowledge. |
Il testimonio scellerato schernisce la dirittura; E la bocca degli empi trangugia l’iniquità | 28 A perjured witness holds the law in scorn; the mouth of the wicked feasts on evil-doing. |
I giudicii sono apparecchiati agli schernitori, E le percosse al dosso degli stolti | 29 Punishments were made for mockers, and beating for the backs of fools. |
