1 Imitez Dieu puisque vous êtes ses enfants bien-aimés.	1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 Que l’amour soit votre loi: voyez comme le Christ vous a aimés et s’est sacrifié pour nous, comme ces victimes dont l’odeur était agréable à Dieu.	2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3 Qu’on ne fasse même pas allusion chez vous à la liberté sexuelle, l’impureté, ou la soif d’argent, car cela n’est pas digne de vous: vous êtes des saints.	3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Et de même les plaisanteries stupides ou de mauvais goût et le gros rire: vous n’êtes pas faits pour cela, mais pour l’action de grâces.	4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 D’ailleurs vous savez que le licencieux, l’impur et celui qui aime l’argent - qui adore un faux dieu - n’ont pas leur place dans le royaume du Christ et de Dieu.	5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Ne vous laissez pas égarer par les fausses raisons. C’est cela qui attire la colère de Dieu sur les ennemis de la foi:	6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 ne partagez pas leur sort.	7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 Autrefois vous étiez ténèbres, mais maintenant, dans le Seigneur, vous êtes lumière. Marchez comme des enfants de lumière	8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9 dans la bonté, la droiture et la vérité, car ce sont les fruits de la lumière.	9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10 Essayez de discerner ce qui plaît au Seigneur.	10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 Ne vous rendez pas complices des œuvres de ténèbres, car on n’y gagne rien; dénoncez-les plutôt.	11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 On a honte même de dire ce qu’ils font en cachette,	12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13 mais tout ce que la lumière a dénoncé vient au jour,	13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 et ce qui est venu au jour devient lumière. Il est bien dit: Réveille-toi, toi qui dors, lève-toi d’entre les morts, que t’illumine la lumière du Christ!	14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 Examinez donc avec soin votre conduite, soyez sérieux et non irréfléchis.	15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Essayez de tirer parti du moment présent, car ces jours ne sont pas favorables.	16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Donc, ne soyez pas irresponsables, mais cherchez à voir où est la volonté du Seigneur.	17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 Plus d’excès de vin, car cette ivresse mène à l’immoralité; c’est l’Esprit qui doit vous mettre en forme.	18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Communiquez entre vous avec des psaumes, des hymnes, des cantiques spirituels. Que le Seigneur entende le chant et la musique de vos cœurs.	19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Rendez grâces en tout temps et pour tout à Dieu le Père, par Jésus Christ notre Seigneur.	20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Que la crainte du Christ inspire votre soumission aux autres.	21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 C’est le cas des femmes: soumises à leurs maris comme au Seigneur.	22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 Pour la femme, le mari est la tête, tout comme le Christ est la tête de l’Église, lui qui sauve le corps.	23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Aussi l’Église est soumise au Christ, et de même les femmes le seront à leur mari, sans réserve.	24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Vous, les maris, aimez vos femmes, tout comme le Christ a aimé l’Église et s’est sacrifié pour elle.	25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 Et après l’avoir baignée dans l’eau et la Parole afin de la purifier, il l’a rendue sainte.	26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 Car il voulait se donner lui-même une Église rayonnante, sans ride ni tache ou défaut: il la voulait sainte et sans reproche.	27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 De même les maris doivent aimer leur femme comme leur propre corps: aimer sa femme, c’est s’aimer soi-même.	28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 Personne ne veut de mal à son propre corps, on le nourrit, on en prend soin, comme le Christ le fait pour son Église -	29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 et nous, nous sommes les membres de son corps.	30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 Voilà comment l’homme laissera son père et sa mère pour s’attacher à sa femme, et les deux seront une seule chair.	31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 Il s’agit là d’un grand mystère, car je le vois dans le Christ et l’Église.	32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Quant à vous, que chacun aime sa femme comme lui-même, et que la femme respecte son mari.	33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
