1 Frères, je désire de tout cœur et je demande à Dieu qu’ils soient sauvés.	1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
2 Je dois dire en leur faveur qu’ils sont pleins d’ardeur pour Dieu, mais c’est une ardeur mal entendue.	2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3 Ils ne savent pas comment Dieu nous fait justes et ils veulent établir leur propre perfection. C’est pourquoi ils ne sont pas entrés dans le chemin de justification de Dieu.	3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4 Car le Christ est le but de la Loi, et c’est alors que tout croyant devient “juste”.	4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
5 Moïse parle bien de devenir juste par la Loi; il a écrit: Celui qui la met en pratique vivra.	5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
6 Mais de son côté la justice qui vient de la foi te dit: Ne dis pas dans ton cœur: Qui montera au ciel? C’est une façon de dire que le Christ devait en descendre.	6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
7 Et ensuite: Qui descendra dans l’abîme? C’est une façon de dire que le Christ devait remonter d’entre les morts.	7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
8 Et ensuite il est dit: La parole est proche de toi, elle est déjà dans ta bouche et dans ton cœur. Il s’agit là de la parole que nous proclamons, et c’est la foi.	8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 Tu es sauvé lorsque ta bouche proclame que Jésus est le Seigneur, et que ton cœur croit que Dieu l’a ressuscité d’entre les morts.	9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 Le cœur qui croit te donne la vraie droiture, ta bouche qui le proclame te donne le salut.	10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 L’Écriture dit en effet: Aucun de ceux qui croient en lui ne sera déçu.	11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 Il n’y a donc pas de différence entre Juifs et Grecs, ils ont un même Seigneur, fort généreux pour tous ceux qui l’invoquent:	12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 Celui qui invoque le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé, quel qu’il soit.	13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 Mais peuvent-ils invoquer le Nom du Seigneur s’ils ne croient pas en lui? Peuvent-ils croire en lui si on ne l’a pas proclamé?	14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 Va-t-on le proclamer si on n’a pas été envoyé pour cela? Il est écrit: Comme ils sont beaux à voir les pas de ceux qui apportent la bonne nouvelle.	15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 Mais voilà, tous n’acceptent pas la bonne nouvelle. Isaïe dit en effet: Seigneur, qui nous a entendus et a cru?	16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 C’est qu’il faut entendre pour croire, il faut entendre ce qu’on dit du Christ.	17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 Alors je demande: N’ont-ils pas entendu? Bien sûr que si: Cette voix s’est fait entendre par toute la terre; ces paroles ont résonné jusqu’aux extrémités du monde.	18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
19 Alors je demande: Comment, Israël n’a pas compris? Et tout de suite Moïse nous dit: Je vous rendrai jaloux d’un peuple qui n’en est pas un; je prends pour vous défier un peuple sans intelligence.	19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
20 Isaïe ensuite ose dire: Ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas m’ont trouvé, je me suis fait connaître de ceux qui ne me demandaient pas.	20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
21 Il ajoute, et c’est pour Israël: Tout le jour j’ai tendu les mains vers un peuple qui n’écoute pas et qui me contredit.	21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
