1 En ce temps-là Yahvé me dit: “Taille-toi deux tables de pierre comme les premières, et remonte vers moi sur la montagne. Puis tu te feras une arche de bois.	1 "At that time the LORD said to me, 'Cut two tablets of stone like the former; then come up the mountain to me. Also make an ark of wood.
2 J’écrirai sur ces tables les paroles qui étaient inscrites sur les premières tables que tu as brisées, et tu les mettras dans l’Arche.”	2 I will write upon the tablets the commandments that were on the former tablets that you broke, and you shall place them in the ark.'
3 J’ai donc fabriqué une arche en bois d’acacia et j’ai taillé deux tables de pierre comme les premières. Après quoi j’ai gravi la montagne, ayant en mains les deux tables.	3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the former, and went up the mountain carrying the two tablets.
4 Yahvé écrivit alors sur les tables le même texte que sur les premières, c’est-à-dire les Dix Paroles que Yahvé vous avait dites sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, au jour de l’assemblée. Et il me les donna.	4 The LORD then wrote on them, as he had written before, the ten commandments which he spoke to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. After the LORD had given them to me,
5 C’est ainsi que je suis redescendu de la montagne; j’ai placé les tables dans l’Arche que j’avais fabriquée, comme Yahvé l’avait ordonné, et elles y sont encore.	5 I turned and came down the mountain, and placed the tablets in the ark I had made. There they have remained, in keeping with the command the LORD gave me.
6 (Les Israélites partirent des puits des Béné-Yaakan pour Moséra. C’est là que mourut Aaron et qu’il fut enterré; Éléazar, son fils, lui succéda comme prêtre.	6 (The Israelites set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan for Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried, his son Eleazar succeeding him in the priestly office.
7 Ils partirent de là pour Goudgoda, et de Goudgoda ils allèrent à Yotbata, terre riche en eau.	7 From there they set out for Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah for Jotbathah, a region where there is water in the wadies.)
8 Là Yahvé mit à part la tribu de Lévi pour porter l’Arche de l’Alliance et se tenir en sa présence: jusqu’à ce jour ils le servent et bénissent en son Nom.	8 "At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to be in attendance before the LORD and minister to him, and to give blessings in his name, as they have done to this day.
9 C’est pourquoi Lévi n’a pas eu de part ni d’héritage avec ses frères, car Yahvé est son héritage comme Yahvé ton Dieu le lui a dit.)	9 For this reason, Levi has no share in the heritage with his brothers; the LORD himself is his heritage, as the LORD, your God, has told him.
10 Je m’étais donc tenu sur la montagne durant 40 jours et 40 nuits et, cette fois encore, Yahvé m’avait écouté, il avait renoncé à te détruire.	10 "After I had spent these other forty days and forty nights on the mountain, and the LORD had once again heard me and decided not to destroy you,
11 Alors Yahvé m’a dit: “Passe à la tête de ce peuple! qu’il entre et qu’il prenne possession du pays que j’ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner.”	11 he said to me, 'Go now and set out at the head of your people, that they may enter in and occupy the land which I swore to their fathers I would give them.'
12 Et maintenant Israël, que te demande Yahvé ton Dieu? Tout simplement de craindre Yahvé ton Dieu, de marcher dans toutes ses voies, de l’aimer et de le servir de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme.	12 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD, your God, ask of you but to fear the LORD, your God, and follow his ways exactly, to love and serve the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul,
13 Observe les commandements de Yahvé et les ordonnances que je te donne aujourd’hui, et tout ira bien pour toi.	13 to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD which I enjoin on you today for your own good?
14 Les cieux, les cieux des cieux, la terre et tout ce qu’elle contient, appartiennent à Yahvé ton Dieu.	14 Think! The heavens, even the highest heavens, belong to the LORD, your God, as well as the earth and everything on it.
15 Pourtant, ce n’est qu’à tes pères que Yahvé s’est attaché pour les aimer. Et après eux il vous a choisis, vous, leur descendance, de préférence à tous les peuples, comme vous le voyez aujourd’hui.	15 Yet in his love for your fathers the LORD was so attached to them as to choose you, their descendants, in preference to all other peoples, as indeed he has now done.
16 Il vous faut donc une autre circoncision, la purification du cœur, et ne plus faire la forte tête.	16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and be no longer stiff-necked.
17 Car Yahvé, votre Dieu, est le Dieu des dieux et le Seigneur des Seigneurs. Il est le Dieu grand, puissant et redoutable, qui ne fait pas de faveur et n’accepte pas de cadeau.	17 For the LORD, your God, is the God of gods, the LORD of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who has no favorites, accepts no bribes;
18 Il fait droit à l’orphelin et à la veuve, il aime l’étranger et lui donne le pain et le vêtement.	18 who executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and befriends the alien, feeding and clothing him.
19 Vous aimerez donc l’étranger, car vous-mêmes avez été des étrangers en Égypte.	19 So you too must befriend the alien, for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.
20 Tu craindras Yahvé ton Dieu, tu le serviras, tu t’attacheras à lui et c’est par son Nom que tu jureras.	20 The LORD, your God, shall you fear, and him shall you serve; hold fast to him and swear by his name.
21 C’est à lui qu’ira ta louange, car il est ton Dieu, qui a fait pour toi les choses grandes et redoutables que tes yeux ont vues.	21 He is your glory, he, your God, who has done for you those great and terrible things which your own eyes have seen.
22 Quand tes pères sont descendus en Égypte, ils étaient 70, et maintenant Yahvé ton Dieu t’a rendu aussi nombreux que les étoiles des cieux.	22 Your ancestors went down to Egypt seventy strong, and now the LORD, your God, has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky.
