1 À ce moment-même les disciples de Jésus viennent lui demander: "Qui donc est le plus grand dans le Royaume des Cieux?”	1 At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?'
2 Il appelle un petit enfant et le place au milieu d’eux.	2 So he cal ed a little child to him whom he set among them.
3 Puis il dit: "En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous ne redevenez pas comme des enfants, vous n’entrerez pas dans le Royaume des Cieux.	3 Then he said, 'In truth I tel you, unless you change and become like little children you wil never enterthe kingdom of Heaven.
4 Si quelqu’un peut se rabaisser au niveau de cet enfant, c’est lui le plus grand dans le Royaume des Cieux.	4 And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven.
5 Et si quelqu’un reçoit en mon nom un enfant tel que je viens de dire, il me reçoit.	5 'Anyone who welcomes one little child like this in my name welcomes me.
6 “Si quelqu’un devait faire chuter un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il vaudrait mieux pour lui qu’on lui attache au cou une meule de moulin et qu’on le fasse couler au plus profond de la mer.	6 But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be betterdrowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck.
7 “Malheur au monde à cause des scandales! Il est nécessaire que les scandales arrivent, mais malheur à celui qui est la cause du scandale.	7 Alas for the world that there should be such causes of fal ing! Causes of falling indeed there must be,but alas for anyone who provides them!
8 “Si ta main ou ton pied doit te faire chuter, coupe-le et jette-le loin de toi. Il vaut mieux pour toi entrer dans la vie avec une seule main ou un seul pied, que d’avoir deux mains et deux pieds quand on te jettera au feu éternel.	8 'If your hand or your foot should be your downfal , cut it off and throw it away: it is better for you toenter into life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.
9 Si ton œil doit te faire chuter, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans la vie avec un seul œil que d’en avoir deux et d’être jeté dans l’enfer du feu.	9 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away: it is better for you to enter intolife with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hel of fire.
10 “Faites attention à ne mépriser aucun de ces petits. Je vous assure que leurs anges dans le ciel voient constamment le visage de mon Père des cieux.	10 'See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tel you that theirin heaven are continually inthe presence of my Father in heaven.
11 (Oui, le Fils de l’Homme est venu sauver ce qui était perdu.)	11
12 “Que se passe-t-il, d’après vous, si quelqu’un a 100 brebis et que l’une d’elles vient à s’égarer? Ne va-t-il pas laisser les 99 autres dans la montagne pour partir à la recherche de celle qui s’est égarée?	12 'Tel me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray?
13 S’il peut la retrouver, je vous affirme qu’elle lui apporte plus de joie que les 99 qui ne se sont pas égarées.	13 In truth I tel you, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at al .
14 C’est la même chose chez votre Père des Cieux: là on ne veut pas qu’un seul de ces petits se perde.”	14 Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.
15 “Si ton frère a péché, va le reprendre toi seul avec lui. S’il t’écoute, tu as gagné ton frère.	15 'If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. Ifhe listens to you, you have won back your brother.
16 S’il ne t’écoute pas, prends avec toi une ou deux personnes de façon que toute l’affaire se règle en présence de deux ou trois témoins.	16 If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: whatever the misdemeanour, theevidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain the charge.
17 S’il ne les écoute pas, dis-le à l’Église, et s’il n’écoute pas l’Église, qu’il soit désormais pour toi comme un païen ou un publicain.	17 But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to thecommunity, treat him like a gentile or a tax col ector.
18 “En vérité je vous le dis: tout ce que vous liez ici sur terre sera lié dans le ciel, et ce que vous déliez sur la terre sera délié dans le ciel.	18 'In truth I tel you, whatever you bind on earth wil be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earthwil be loosed in heaven.
19 “Je vous dis également que si deux d’entre vous se mettent d’accord ici, sur terre, pour demander quoi que ce soit, mon Père dans les cieux fera qu’ils l’obtiennent.	19 'In truth I tel you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at al , it wil be granted toyou by my Father in heaven.
20 Car dès que deux ou trois sont réunis en mon nom, je suis là au milieu d’eux.”	20 For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.'
21 Alors Pierre s’approche et lui pose cette question: "Seigneur, combien de fois vais-je pardonner à mon frère si de nouveau il me fait tort? Jusqu’à sept fois?”	21 Then Peter went up to him and said, 'Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? Asoften as seven times?'
22 Et Jésus lui dit: "Je ne dis pas sept fois, mais soixante-dix-sept fois.”	22 Jesus answered, 'Not seven, I tel you, but seventy-seven times.
23 “À ce propos, apprenez quelque chose du Royaume des Cieux. Un roi a décidé de demander des comptes à ses serviteurs,	23 'And so the kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts withhis servants.
24 et pour commencer on lui en présente un qui doit 10 000 lingots d’or.	24 When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents;
25 Comme il n’est pas en mesure de rembourser, son seigneur ordonne de le vendre avec sa femme, ses enfants et tout ce qu’il a, de manière à récupérer quelque chose.	25 he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wifeand children and al his possessions, to meet the debt.
26 “Alors le serviteur se jette à ses pieds, face contre terre, et lui dit: ‘Sois patient avec moi et je te rembourserai tout.’	26 At this, the servant threw himself down at his master's feet, with the words, "Be patient with me and Iwil pay the whole sum."
27 Le roi a une telle compassion de lui qu’il le remet en liberté, et même il efface sa dette.	27 And the servant's master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancel ed the debt.
28 “Mais aussitôt sorti, ce serviteur rencontre un compagnon de travail qui lui doit 100 pièces. Il le prend à la gorge en lui disant: ‘Rends-moi ce que tu me dois.’	28 Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fel ow-servant who owed him one hundreddenari ; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him, saying, "Pay what you owe me."
29 Son compagnon se jette à ses pieds et le supplie: ‘Sois patient avec moi et je te rembourserai’.	29 His fel ow-servant fell at his feet and appealed to him, saying, "Be patient with me and I wil pay you."
30 Mais l’autre refuse et s’en va le faire mettre en prison jusqu’à ce qu’il ait remboursé sa dette.	30 But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison til he should pay thedebt.
31 “En voyant cela, les autres compagnons sont profondément peinés et ils vont dénoncer à leur seigneur ce qui vient de se passer.	31 His fel ow-servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went totheir master and reported the whole affair to him.
32 “Le seigneur fait alors appeler l’autre et lui dit: ‘Méchant serviteur, quand tu m’as supplié, je t’ai libéré de toute cette dette;	32 Then the master sent for the man and said to him, "You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt ofyours when you appealed to me.
33 ne devais-tu pas toi aussi avoir pitié de ton compagnon comme j’ai eu pitié de toi?’	33 Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow-servant just as I had pity on you?"
34 Le seigneur était fort en colère et il le remit aux mains des bourreaux jusqu’à ce qu’il ait payé tout ce qu’il devait.	34 And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers til he should pay al his debt.
35 “Oui, mon Père des Cieux vous traitera de la même façon si chacun de vous ne pardonne pas à son frère du fond de son cœur.”	35 And that is how my heavenly Father wil deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from yourheart.'
