1 Qui est devenu un sage, qui est capable d’expliquer les choses? La sagesse chez un homme illumine son visage et transforme ce qu’il avait de dur.	1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
2 Observe l’ordre du roi, puisque tu lui as juré fidélité devant Dieu.	2 I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.
3 Si tu veux t’éloigner de lui, pense-le deux fois, ne te mets pas dans une mauvaise affaire: ce que le roi veut, il le fera.	3 Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
4 La parole du roi sera le point final: personne ne lui dira “Que fais-tu là?”	4 Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
5 “Celui qui garde les commandements ne craindra pas le malheur. Celui qui a la sagesse en son cœur verra venir l’heure du jugement.	5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.
6 Car l’heure du jugement viendra pour toute chose”. C’est vrai, mais c’est une grande misère pour les humains	6 Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.
7 que de ne pas savoir ce qui leur arrivera: qui leur dira comment les choses se passeront?	7 For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?
8 Aucun homme n’est maître du souffle de vie, aucun n’est maître du jour de sa mort. C’est un combat impitoyable et il n’y a pas de méchanceté qui puisse nous sauver.	8 There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
9 Tout cela je l’ai vu lorsque j’ai réfléchi sur tout ce qui se passe sous le soleil, sur la façon qu’ont les hommes de dominer les uns sur les autres et de se faire du mal.	9 All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.
10 C’est ainsi que j’ai vu des hommes mauvais accompagnés à leur tombeau depuis le lieu saint, et dans la ville on oubliait tout ce mal qu’ils avaient fait. Voilà encore une chose qui nous déroute:	10 And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.
11 comme les actions mauvaises ne sont pas immédiatement jugées et punies, les fils d’Adam trouvent là un encouragement à faire le mal.	11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
12 Car le pécheur a beau faire cent fois ce qui est mal, on lui laisse tout son temps. (Je sais pourtant que le bonheur est pour ceux qui craignent Dieu et qui le respectent.	12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
13 Le bonheur n’est pas pour le méchant; il ne prolongera pas ses jours, mais il passera comme une ombre, parce qu’il n’a pas la crainte de Dieu.)	13 But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
14 Voilà ce qui est déroutant sur cette terre: il y a des justes à qui arrive tout ce qui conviendrait aux méchants pour tout ce qu’ils ont fait, et il y a des méchants à qui arrive ce qui conviendrait aux justes: cela encore n’a pas de sens.	14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
15 Pour ma part, j’aime qu’on goûte la joie, car le seul bonheur pour l’homme sous le soleil, c’est de manger et de boire, et de se réjouir: c’est là sa part tandis qu’il trime tout au long des jours comptés de sa vie sous le soleil, tels que Dieu les lui donne.	15 Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
16 Comme je m’appliquais à connaître et que j’observais toutes les activités auxquelles on se livre sur la terre, j’ai vu que l’œil humain n’a de repos ni de jour ni de nuit.	16 When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)
17 J’ai observé l’œuvre de Dieu dans son ensemble: l’homme ne peut pas trouver un sens à l’œuvre qui se fait sous le soleil. L’homme a beau se fatiguer et chercher, il ne trouve pas, et même quand le sage prétend savoir, il n’a rien trouvé.	17 Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
