1 Yahvé parla à Moïse:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 “Tu ordonneras aux Israélites de changer de route et de camper devant Pi-Hahirot, entre Migdol et la mer, vis-à-vis de Baal-Séfon. Vous camperez en face de ce lieu, au bord de la mer.	2 'Tel the Israelites to turn back and pitch camp in front of Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea,facing Baal-Zephon. You must pitch your camp opposite this place, beside the sea,
3 Le Pharaon se dira sûrement ceci: Les Israélites se sont perdus dans le désert et le désert s’est refermé sur eux.	3 and then Pharaoh wil think, "The Israelites are wandering to and fro in the countryside; the desert hasclosed in on them."
4 Je ferai alors que le Pharaon s’endurcisse et vous poursuive, et je me couvrirai de gloire aux dépens du Pharaon et de toute son armée. Alors les Égyptiens sauront que je suis Yahvé.” Ils firent donc ainsi.	4 I shal then make Pharaoh stubborn and he wil set out in pursuit of them; and I shall win glory formyself at the expense of Pharaoh and his whole army, and then the Egyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.' Andthe Israelites did this.
5 Quand on annonça au roi d’Égypte que le peuple s’était enfui, le Pharaon et ses serviteurs ne pensèrent plus pareil à propos du peuple. “Qu’avons-nous fait?” dirent-ils, “nous avons laissé partir Israël, il ne nous servira plus!”	5 When Pharaoh king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, he and his officials changed theirattitude towards the people. 'What have we done,' they said, 'allowing Israel to leave our service?'
6 Le Pharaon attela son char et entraîna son peuple avec lui.	6 So Pharaoh had his chariot harnessed and set out with his troops,
7 Il prit 600 chars d’élite, tous les chars d’Égypte avec des voltigeurs pour chacun.	7 taking six hundred of the best chariots and al the other chariots in Egypt, with officers in each.
8 Yahvé avait endurci le cœur du Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et il se lança à la poursuite des Israélites qui s’en allaient la tête haute.	8 Yahweh made Pharaoh king of Egypt stubborn, and he gave chase to the Israelites. The Israelitesmarched confidently away,
9 Les Égyptiens se lancèrent donc à leur poursuite et les rejoignirent alors qu’ils campaient près de la mer. Tous les chevaux et les chars du Pharaon, ses cavaliers et son armée étaient là près de Pi-Hahirot, en face de Baal-Séfon.	9 but the Egyptians, al Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, his horsemen and his army, gave chase andcaught up with them where they lay encamped beside the sea near Pi-Hahiroth, facing Baal-Zephon.
10 Le Pharaon approchait. Les Israélites levèrent les yeux et virent les Égyptiens qui s’avançaient sur leurs traces. Alors, épouvantés, les Israélites crièrent vers Yahvé.	10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up -- and there were the Egyptians in pursuit of them!The Israelites were terrified and cried out to Yahweh for help.
11 Ils dirent à Moïse: “N’y avait-il pas assez de tombeaux en Égypte pour que tu nous emmènes mourir au désert? Tu nous a bien aidés en nous faisant sortir d’Égypte!	11 To Moses they said, 'Was it for lack of graves in Egypt, that you had to lead us out to die in thedesert? What was the point of bringing us out of Egypt?
12 Nous te le disions déjà en Égypte: Laisse-nous servir les Égyptiens! Mieux vaut pour nous servir l’Égypte que mourir dans le désert.”	12 Did we not tell you as much in Egypt? Leave us alone, we said, we would rather work for theEgyptians! We prefer to work for the Egyptians than to die in the desert!'
13 Moïse répondit au peuple: “N’ayez pas peur, tenez bon! Regardez simplement comment Yahvé sauve, voyez ce qu’il va faire pour vous aujourd’hui. Les Égyptiens que vous voyez aujourd’hui, vous ne les reverrez plus jamais,	13 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid! Stand firm, and you wil see what Yahweh wil do torescue you today: the Egyptians you see today you wil never see again.
14 Yahvé combattra à votre place et vous, vous n’aurez qu’à regarder!”	14 Yahweh will do the fighting for you; al you need to do is to keep calm.'
15 Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Pourquoi cries-tu vers moi? Dis aux Israélites de se mettre en route.	15 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Why cry out to me? Tel the Israelites to march on.
16 Puis lève ton bâton, étends la main vers la mer et coupe-la en deux: les Israélites passeront au milieu de la mer, à pied sec!	16 Your part is to raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that theIsraelites can walk through the sea on dry ground,
17 “Je ferai que les Égyptiens s’obstinent à continuer derrière eux, et alors je me couvrirai de gloire aux dépens du Pharaon et de toute son armée, de ses chars et de ses cavaliers.	17 while I, for my part, shal make the Egyptians so stubborn that they wil follow them, and I shall winglory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and al his army, chariots and horsemen.
18 Les Égyptiens sauront que je suis Yahvé quand je me couvrirai de gloire aux dépens du Pharaon, de ses chars et de ses cavaliers.”	18 And when I have won glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and his chariots and horsemen, theEgyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.'
19 L’ange de Dieu qui marchait en avant de la troupe d’Israël, se déplaça et passa derrière eux. La colonne de nuée qui était en avant passa aussi derrière eux	19 Then the angel of God, who preceded the army of Israel, changed station and fol owed behind them.The pil ar of cloud moved from their front and took position behind them.
20 et se plaça entre le camp d’Égypte et le camp d’Israël; mais la nuée était sombre du côté des Égyptiens et lumineuse du côté d’Israël. Ils ne s’approchèrent pas les uns des autres durant toute la nuit.	20 It came between the army of the Egyptians and the army of Israel. The cloud was dark, and the nightpassed without the one drawing any closer to the other the whole night long.
21 Moïse étendit la main sur la mer et durant toute la nuit Yahvé fit souffler sur la mer un fort vent d’est: il mit ainsi la mer à sec. Les eaux s’ouvrirent:	21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back with a strongeasterly wind al night and made the sea into dry land. The waters were divided
22 les Israélites passèrent au milieu de la mer à pied sec; les eaux formaient comme un mur à leur droite et à leur gauche.	22 and the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea, with wal s of water to right and left ofthem.
23 Les Égyptiens qui les poursuivaient entrèrent aussi derrière eux au milieu de la mer, avec tous les chevaux du Pharaon, ses chars et ses cavaliers.	23 The Egyptians gave chase, and all Pharaoh's horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea afterthem.
24 Au petit matin, de la colonne de feu et de nuée, Yahvé fixa du regard le camp des Égyptiens et il y jeta la panique.	24 In the morning watch, Yahweh looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pil ar of fire andcloud and threw the Egyptian army into confusion.
25 Il faussa les roues de leurs chars, qui n’avancèrent plus que péniblement. Les Égyptiens se dirent alors: “Fuyons devant Israël, car Yahvé combat avec eux contre l’Égypte!”	25 He so clogged their chariot wheels that they drove on only with difficulty, which made the Egyptianssay, 'Let us flee from Israel, for Yahweh is fighting on their side against the Egyptians!'
26 Mais Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Étends la main sur la mer, et les eaux reviendront sur les Égyptiens, sur leurs chars et leurs cavaliers.”	26 Then Yahweh said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea and let the waters flow back on theEgyptians and on their chariots and their horsemen.'
27 Alors Moïse étendit la main sur la mer. Au petit matin la mer revint à sa place et, comme les Égyptiens s’enfuyaient devant elle, Yahvé les culbuta au milieu de la mer.	27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and, as day broke, the sea returned to its bed. The fleeingEgyptians ran straight into it, and Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.
28 Les eaux revinrent et recouvrirent les chars, les cavaliers et toute l’armée du Pharaon qui étaient entrés dans la mer à la suite des Israélites: pas un d’entre eux n’échappa.	28 The returning waters washed right over the chariots and horsemen of Pharaoh's entire army, whichhad fol owed the Israelites into the sea; not a single one of them was left.
29 Quant aux Israélites, ils passèrent à pied sec au milieu de la mer, les eaux étaient pour eux comme un mur à leur droite et à leur gauche.	29 The Israelites, however, had marched through the sea on dry ground, with wal s of water to right andleft of them.
30 Ce jour-là Yahvé sauva Israël de la main des Égyptiens, et Israël vit les Égyptiens morts sur le bord de la mer.	30 That day, Yahweh rescued Israel from the clutches of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptianslying dead on the sea-shore.
31 Israël vit les prodiges que Yahvé avait faits contre l’Égypte, et le peuple craignit Yahvé. Ils crurent en Yahvé et en Moïse, son serviteur.	31 When Israel saw the mighty deed that Yahweh had performed against the Egyptians, the peoplerevered Yahweh and put their faith in Yahweh and in Moses, his servant.
