1 Josias célébra à Jérusalem une Pâque en l’honneur de Yahvé: on immola la Pâque le quatorzième jour du premier mois.	1 Now Josiah kept the Passover to the Lord in Jerusalem, and it was immolated on the fourteenth day of the first month.
2 Il fixa aux prêtres leurs fonctions et leur confia le service de la Maison de Yahvé.	2 And he appointed the priests in their offices, and he exhorted them to minister in the house of the Lord.
3 Puis le roi dit aux lévites qui enseignent tout Israël et qui sont consacrés au service de Yahvé: “Puisque l’Arche Sainte repose dans la Maison que Salomon fils de David, roi d’Israël, a construit, vous n’avez plus à la porte: servez donc Yahvé votre Dieu et son peuple Israël.	3 Also, he spoke with the Levites, by whose instruction all of Israel was sanctified to the Lord, saying: “Place the ark in the sanctuary of the temple, which Solomon, the son of David, the king of Israel, built. For never again shall you carry it. Instead, now you shall minister to the Lord your God, and to his people Israel.
4 Organisez-vous par familles, d’après vos classes, selon l’écrit de David, roi d’Israël et le décret de Salomon, son fils.	4 And prepare yourselves by your houses and families, within each division, just as David, the king of Israel, instructed, and just as his son Solomon has written.
5 Tenez-vous dans le Lieu saint selon la distribution de vos familles pour le service de vos frères, les hommes du peuple, et selon la répartition des lévites par familles.	5 And minister in the sanctuary, by the Levitical families and companies.
6 Vous allez immoler la Pâque, purifiez-vous donc et faites les préparatifs pour vos frères, selon la parole de Yahvé que Moïse nous a donnée.”	6 And having been sanctified, immolate the Passover. And then prepare your brothers, so that they may be able to act in accord with the words which the Lord has spoken by the hand of Moses.”
7 Josias donna pour les hommes du peuple du petit bétail, agneaux et chevreaux, de quoi fournir la victime pascale à tous ceux qui se trouvaient là; ils étaient 30 000. Il préleva en outre 3 000 têtes de gros bétail provenant des propriétés royales.	7 After this, Josiah gave to all the people, those who had been found there at the solemnity of the Passover, thirty thousand lambs and young goats from the flocks, and other kinds of small cattle, and also three thousand oxen. All these were from the substance of the king.
8 Ses chefs avaient également fait un don pour le peuple. Les prêtres et les lévites: Hilkiyas, Zékaryas et Yéhiel, chefs de la Maison de Dieu, donnèrent aux prêtres 2 600 têtes de petit bétail et 300 bœufs comme victimes pascales.	8 Also, his rulers offered what they had vowed freely, as much for the people as for the priests and Levites. Moreover, Hilkiah, and Zechariah, and Jehiel, rulers of the house of the Lord, gave to the priests, in order to observe the Passover, two thousand six hundred small cattle, and three hundred oxen.
9 Les chefs des lévites, Konanyas, Chémayas et son frère Nétanéel, Hachabyas, Yéhiel et Yozabad donnèrent aux lévites comme victimes pascales 5 000 têtes de petit bétail et 500 bœufs.	9 And Conaniah, with Shemaiah and Nethanel, his brothers, indeed also Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, rulers of the Levites, gave to the rest of the Levites, in order to celebrate the Passover, five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen.
10 Le service étant organisé, les prêtres et les lévites se tinrent à leur place selon leur classe, comme l’avait ordonné le roi.	10 And the ministry was prepared. And the priests stood in their office, and the Levites also stood in their companies, according to the order of the king.
11 On immola la Pâque; les prêtres recevaient le sang de la main des lévites, ils le répandaient, puis les lévites écorchaient les victimes.	11 And the Passover was immolated. And the priests sprinkled the blood with their hand, and the Levites drew away the pelts of the holocausts.
12 On mit à part les holocaustes pour les répartir entre le peuple selon leurs clans familiaux et qu’ils les offrent à Yahvé, selon ce qui est écrit dans le livre de Moïse; on fit de même pour le gros bétail.	12 And they put these aside, so that they might give them to each one, by their houses and families, and so that they might be offered to the Lord, just as it was written in the book of Moses. And with the oxen, they acted similarly.
13 D’accord avec le rituel, la Pâque fut rôtie au feu, mais on fit cuire dans des chaudrons, dans des marmites et dans des pots, les offrandes saintes que l’on porta ensuite au peuple.	13 And they roasted the Passover above fire, in accord with what was written in the law. Yet truly, the victims of peace offerings they boiled in cauldrons and kettles and pots. And they promptly distributed these to all the common people.
14 Les lévites préparèrent alors la Pâque pour eux et pour les prêtres, car les prêtres fils d’Aaron furent pris jusqu’à la nuit par l’offrande des holocaustes et des graisses. C’est pour cela que les lévites firent les préparatifs pour eux-mêmes et pour les prêtres fils d’Aaron.	14 Then afterward, they made preparations for themselves and for the priests. Indeed, the priests had been occupied in the oblations of the holocausts and the fat offerings, even until night. Therefore, the Levites made preparations for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron, last.
15 Les chantres, fils d’Asaf, se tenaient à leur place selon les ordres de David, d’Asaf, de Héman, et de Yédoutoun le voyant du roi; quant aux portiers, ils se tenaient aux diverses portes. Aucun d’entre eux n’avait de raison de quitter son service, puisque leurs frères lévites préparaient tout pour eux.	15 Now the singers, the sons of Asaph, were standing in their order, according to the instruction of David, and of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, the prophets of the king. Truly, the porters kept watch at each gate, so as not to depart from their ministry even for one moment. And for this reason, their brothers, the Levites, prepared foods for them.
16 Voilà comment on organisa ce jour-là tout le culte de Yahvé, de façon à célébrer la Pâque et présenter les holocaustes sur l’autel de Yahvé comme l’avait ordonné le roi Josias.	16 And so, the entire worship ritual of the Lord was completed on that day, so that they observed the Passover and offered holocausts upon the altar of the Lord, in accord with the precept of king Josiah.
17 Les Israélites qui se trouvaient là célébrèrent alors la Pâque et, durant les sept jours suivants, la fête des Azymes.	17 And the sons of Israel, who had been found there, kept the Passover at that time, with the solemnity of unleavened bread, for seven days.
18 Depuis le temps du prophète Samuel, jamais en Israël on n’avait célébré une Pâque comme celle-là. Aucun des rois d’Israël n’avait célébré une Pâque comme celle que fit Josias avec les prêtres, les lévites, tout Juda, les Israélites de passage et tous les habitants de Jérusalem.	18 There was no Passover similar to this one in Israel, from the days of Samuel the prophet. And neither did anyone, out of all the kings of Israel, keep such a Passover as did Josiah, the priests and Levites, and all those of Judah and Israel who had been found, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
19 On célébra cette Pâque la dix-huitième année du règne de Josias.	19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah, this Passover was celebrated.
20 Tout cela était terminé, et Josias avait réparé le Temple, lorsque le roi d’Égypte Nékao, monta pour combattre à Karkémich, sur l’Euphrate. Josias partit à sa rencontre.	20 After Josiah had repaired the temple, Neco, the king of Egypt, ascended to fight at Carchemish, beside the Euphrates. And Josiah went out to meet him.
21 Nékao lui envoya des messagers: “Nous n’avons rien à voir ensemble, roi de Juda, ce n’est pas toi que je suis venu combattre. Je suis parti en guerre contre une autre maison et Dieu m’a dit de me presser. Laisse donc faire le Dieu qui est avec moi, sinon il pourrait te détruire!”	21 But he sent messengers to him, saying: “What is there between me and you, O king of Judah? I have not come against you today. Instead, I am fighting against another house, to which God instructed me to go promptly. Refrain from acting against God, who is with me, otherwise he may kill you.”
22 Mais Josias ne se détourna pas de Nékao, il était décidé à le combattre et n’écouta pas les paroles de Nékao qui sortaient de la bouche de Dieu. Il s’avança donc pour combattre dans la plaine de Méguiddo.	22 Josiah was not willing to return. Instead, he prepared for war against him. Neither would he agree to the words of Neco from the mouth of God. In truth, he traveled so that he might do battle in the field of Megiddo.
23 Des archers tirèrent sur le roi Josias et le roi dit à ses hommes: “Emportez-moi, je me sens très mal.”	23 And there, having been wounded by archers, he said to his servants: “Lead me away from the battle. For I have been severely wounded.”
24 Ses hommes le descendirent de son char, et l’emmenèrent sur un autre char à Jérusalem où il mourut. On l’enterra dans les tombes de ses ancêtres; tout Juda et tout Jérusalem célébrèrent le deuil de Josias.	24 And they took him from the chariot, into another chariot which was following him, as was the custom of kings. And they transported him to Jerusalem. And he died, and he was buried in the mausoleum of his fathers. And all of Judah and Jerusalem mourned for him,
25 Jérémie composa un chant funèbre pour Josias; tous les chanteurs et chanteuses ont parlé de Josias dans leurs chants funèbres jusqu’à ce jour: c’est devenu un rite en Israël. Ils sont écrits dans le Recueil des chants funèbres.	25 most of all Jeremiah. All the singing men and women repeat his lamentations over Josiah, even to the present day. And this has become like a law in Israel. Behold, it is found written in the Lamentations.
26 Le reste des actes de Josias, les témoignages de sa fidélité à ce qui est écrit dans la Loi de Yahvé,	26 Now the rest of the words of Josiah, and his mercies, which were instructed by the law of the Lord,
27 en un mot, tous ses actes du premier jusqu’au dernier, cela est écrit dans le Livre des Rois d’Israël et de Juda.	27 and also his works, the first and the last, have been written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
