1 Osée, fils d’Éla commença à régner sur Israël, à Samarie, en la douzième année d’Akaz, roi de Juda; il régna 9 ans.	1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz, king of Judah, Hoshea, son of Elah, began his nine-year reign over Israel in Samaria.
2 Il fit ce qui est mal au regard de Yahvé, mais pas autant que les rois d’Israël qui l’avaient précédé.	2 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, yet not to the extent of the kings of Israel before him.
3 Salmanasar roi d’Assyrie vint l’attaquer, et Osée dut se soumettre: il lui paya un tribut.	3 Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, advanced against him, and Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute.
4 Mais le roi d’Assyrie s’aperçut que Osée conspirait contre lui: il avait envoyé des messagers à Saïs, vers le roi d’Égypte, et il ne payait plus le tribut, comme chaque année, au roi d’Assyrie. Celui-ci le fit donc arrêter et mettre en prison, enchaîné.	4 But the king of Assyria found Hoshea guilty of conspiracy for sending envoys to the king of Egypt at Sais, and for failure to pay the annual tribute to his Assyrian overlord.
5 Le roi d’Assyrie envahit tout le pays; il arriva devant Samarie et l’assiégea durant trois ans.	5 For this, the king of Assyria arrested and imprisoned Hoshea; he then occupied the whole land and attacked Samaria, which he besieged for three years.
6 La neuvième année d’Osée, le roi d’Assyrie s’empara de Samarie et il déporta les Israélites en Assyrie. Il les établit à Halah sur le Habor, le fleuve de Gozan, ainsi que dans les villes de Médie.	6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria, and deported the Israelites to Assyria, settling them in Halah, at the Habor, a river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
7 Cela arriva parce que les fils d’Israël avaient péché contre Yahvé leur Dieu, qui les avait fait monter du pays d’Égypte et les avait délivrés de la main du Pharaon, roi d’Égypte: ils s’étaient tournés vers d’autre dieux.	7 This came about because the Israelites sinned against the LORD, their God, who had brought them up from the land of Egypt, from under the domination of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and because they venerated other gods.
8 Les Israélites imitèrent les coutumes des nations que Yahvé avait dépossédées devant les fils d’Israël.	8 They followed the rites of the nations whom the LORD had cleared out of the way of the Israelites (and the kings of Israel whom they set up).
9 Ils prononcèrent contre Yahvé, leur Dieu, des paroles indécentes, ils se construisirent des Hauts-Lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis la tour de garde jusqu’à la ville fortifiée.	9 They adopted unlawful practices toward the LORD, their God. They built high places in all their settlements, the watchtowers as well as the walled cities.
10 Ils mirent des pierres levées et des pieux sacrés sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert.	10 They set up pillars and sacred poles for themselves on every high hill and under every leafy tree.
11 Et là, dans tous ces Hauts-Lieux, ils faisaient fumer l’encens comme avaient fait les nations que Yahvé avait chassées devant eux; ils commirent encore toutes sortes d’actions mauvaises pour mettre Yahvé en colère.	11 There, on all the high places, they burned incense like the nations whom the LORD had sent into exile at their coming. They did evil things that provoked the LORD,
12 Ils se mirent au service de sales idoles alors que Yahvé leur avait dit: “Vous ne ferez pas cela.”	12 and served idols, although the LORD had told them, "You must not do this."
13 Pourtant Yahvé avait solennellement averti Israël et Juda par la bouche de tous les prophètes et de tous les voyants: “Renoncez à votre mauvaise conduite et observez mes commandements et mes ordres, selon cette Loi que j’ai ordonnée à vos pères et que je vous ai communiquée par la bouche de mes serviteurs les prophètes.”	13 And though the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and seer, "Give up your evil ways and keep my commandments and statutes, in accordance with the entire law which I enjoined on your fathers and which I sent you by my servants the prophets,"
14 Mais ils n’écoutèrent pas. Et plus encore que leurs pères, qui n’avaient pas cru en Yahvé, leur Dieu, ils firent la forte tête.	14 they did not listen, but were as stiff-necked as their fathers, who had not believed in the LORD, their God.
15 Ils méprisèrent ses commandements et l’Alliance qu’il avait conclue avec leurs pères, les ordonnances qu’il leur avait données. Ils s’attachèrent à des idoles inutiles et devinrent eux-mêmes aussi inutiles que leurs idoles, comme les nations qui les entouraient, alors que Yahvé leur avait commandé de ne pas les imiter.	15 They rejected his statutes, the covenant which he had made with their fathers, and the warnings which he had given them. The vanity they pursued, they themselves became: they followed the surrounding nations whom the LORD had commanded them not to imitate.
16 Ils abandonnèrent tous les commandements de Yahvé leur Dieu, ils se firent des idoles de métal: leurs deux veaux! Ils dressèrent des pieux sacrés, ils se prosternèrent devant toutes les puissances du ciel, et ils servirent Baal.	16 They disregarded all the commandments of the LORD, their God, and made for themselves two molten calves; they also made a sacred pole and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
17 Ils sacrifièrent leurs fils et leurs filles par le feu, ils pratiquèrent la sorcellerie et la magie, ils se vendirent pour faire ce qui est mal au regard de Yahvé, pour le mettre en colère.	17 They immolated their sons and daughters by fire, practiced fortune-telling and divination, and sold themselves into evil doing in the LORD'S sight, provoking him
18 Finalement, Yahvé s’emporta contre Israël et le rejeta loin de lui. Seule la tribu de Juda est restée.	18 till, in his great anger against Israel, the LORD put them away out of his sight. Only the tribe of Judah was left.
19 Mais Juda non plus n’a pas observé les commandements de Yahvé, son Dieu; ils ont imité les pratiques qui étaient devenues habituelles en Israël.	19 Even the people of Judah, however, did not keep the commandments of the LORD, their God, but followed the rites practiced by Israel.
20 C’est pourquoi Yahvé a rejeté toute la race d’Israël, il les a frappés, il les a livrés aux mains de pillards et en fin de compte il les a rejetés loin de lui.	20 So the LORD rejected the whole race of Israel. He afflicted them and delivered them over to plunderers, finally casting them out from before him.
21 Lorsque Jéroboam fils de Nabat a arraché Israël à la maison de David, lorsqu’on l’a consacré comme roi, il a éloigné Israël loin de Yahvé: il lui a fait commettre un grand péché.	21 When he tore Israel away from the house of David, they made Jeroboam, son of Nebat, king; he drove the Israelites away from the LORD, causing them to commit a great sin.
22 Les Israélites ont persévéré dans tous les péchés que Jéroboam avait commis, ils ne s’en sont pas détournés.	22 The Israelites imitated Jeroboam in all the sins he committed, nor would they desist from them.
23 Si bien qu’à la fin Yahvé a rejeté Israël loin de lui, comme il l’avait dit par la bouche de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes; Israël a été déporté en Assyrie loin de sa terre jusqu’à ce jour.	23 Finally, the LORD put Israel away out of his sight as he had foretold through all his servants, the prophets; and Israel went into exile from their native soil to Assyria, an exile lasting to the present.
24 Le roi d’Assyrie fit venir des gens de Babylone, de Kouta, d’Avva, de Hamat, et de Séfarvayim; il les installa dans les villes de Samarie à la place des Israélites. Ils prirent ainsi possession de la Samarie et s’établirent dans ses villes.	24 The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and settled them in the cities of Samaria in place of the Israelites. They took possession of Samaria and dwelt in its cities.
25 Au début, quand ils s’installèrent dans ce lieu, ces gens n’honoraient pas Yahvé, aussi Yahvé envoya-t-il contre eux des lions qui en firent un carnage.	25 When they first settled there, they did not venerate the LORD, so he sent lions among them that killed some of their number.
26 Alors ils dirent au roi d’Assyrie: “Les nations que tu as déportées et installées dans les villes de Samarie ne connaissent pas la Loi du Dieu du pays. C’est pourquoi il a envoyé contre elles des lions et ceux-ci les font mourir, car ils ne connaissent pas la Loi du Dieu du pays.”	26 A report reached the king of Assyria: "The nations whom you deported and settled in the cities of Samaria do not know how to worship the God of the land, and he has sent lions among them that are killing them, since they do not know how to worship the God of the land."
27 Le roi d’Assyrie donna donc cet ordre: “Renvoyez là-bas l’un des prêtres que j’ai déportés, il s’y établira et il leur apprendra la Loi du Dieu du pays.”	27 The king of Assyria gave the order, "Send back one of the priests whom I deported, to go there and settle, to teach them how to worship the God of the land."
28 L’un des prêtres de Samarie qui avaient été déportés y alla donc; il s’établit à Béthel et il leur apprit comment on devait honorer Yahvé.	28 So one of the priests who had been deported from Samaria returned and settled in Bethel, and taught them how to venerate the LORD.
29 Mais chaque nation se faisait ses propres dieux et les plaçait dans les maisons des Hauts-Lieux que les Samaritains avaient construits, chaque nation dans les villes où elle habitait.	29 But these peoples began to make their own gods in the various cities in which they were living; in the shrines on the high places which the Samarians had made, each people set up gods.
30 Ainsi les gens de Babylone se firent un Soukot-Bénot; les gens de Kouta, un Nergal; ceux de Hamat, un Achima;	30 Thus the Babylonians made Marduk and his consort; the men of Cuth made Nergal; the men of Hamath made Ashima;
31 les Avvites se firent un Nibhaz et un Tartak; les gens de Séfarvayim faisaient passer leurs enfants par le feu en l’honneur d’Adramélek et d’Anamélek, les divinités de Séfarvayim.	31 the men of Avva made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the men of Sepharvaim immolated their children by fire to their city gods, King Hadad and his consort Anath.
32 Ils servaient aussi Yahvé, c’est pourquoi ils choisirent parmi eux des prêtres pour les Hauts-Lieux, pour servir en leur nom dans les maisons des Hauts-Lieux.	32 They also venerated the LORD, choosing from their number priests for the high places, who officiated for them in the shrines on the high places.
33 Ils servaient Yahvé mais ils servaient aussi leurs dieux selon les coutumes des nations d’où ils avaient été déportés.	33 But, while venerating the LORD, they served their own gods, following the worship of the nations from among whom they had been deported.
34 Jusqu’à ce jour ils suivent leurs anciennes coutumes. Ils n’honorent pas vraiment Yahvé, car ils ne tiennent pas compte de ses rites et de ses coutumes, selon la Loi et le commandement que Yahvé a donnés aux fils de Jacob, l’homme à qui il a donné le nom d’Israël.	34 To this day they worship according to their ancient rites. (They did not venerate the LORD nor observe the statutes and regulations, the law and commandments, which the LORD enjoined on the descendants of Jacob, whom he had named Israel.
35 Yahvé avait conclu avec eux une Alliance et il leur avait donné cet ordre: “Vous ne servirez pas les dieux étrangers, vous ne vous prosternerez pas devant eux, vous ne leur rendrez pas de culte et vous ne leur offrirez pas de sacrifices:	35 When he made a covenant with them, he commanded them: "You must not venerate other gods, nor worship them, nor serve them, nor offer sacrifice to them.
36 vous n’aurez que Yahvé, qui vous a fait monter du pays d’Égypte en montrant sa force, en frappant de grands coups. C’est lui que vous servirez, c’est devant lui que vous vous prosternerez et c’est à lui que vous offrirez des sacrifices.	36 The LORD, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power and outstretched arm: him shall you venerate, him shall you worship, and to him shall you sacrifice.
37 “Vous observerez et vous mettrez en pratique tous les jours les préceptes, les ordonnances, la Loi et le commandement qu’il a écrits pour vous; vous ne servirez pas d’autres dieux.	37 You must be careful to observe forever the statutes and regulations, the law and commandment, which he wrote for you, and you must not venerate other gods.
38 N’oubliez pas l’Alliance que j’ai conclue avec vous et ne servez pas d’autres dieux.	38 The covenant which I made with you, you must not forget; you must not venerate other gods.
39 C’est Yahvé, votre Dieu, que vous servirez, lui vous délivrera de la main de tous vos ennemis.”	39 But the LORD, your God, you must venerate; it is he who will deliver you from the power of all your enemies."
40 Mais ils n’ont pas entendu, ils continuent avec leurs anciennes coutumes.	40 They did not listen, however, but continued in their earlier manner.)
41 Ainsi donc, ces nations craignaient Yahvé mais elles servaient aussi leurs idoles, et leurs fils et leurs petits-fils agissent jusqu’à ce jour comme faisaient leurs pères.	41 Thus these nations venerated the LORD, but also served their idols. And their sons and grandsons, to this day, are doing as their fathers did.
