1 Voici les dernières paroles de David: “Oracle de David, fils de Jessé, oracle de celui qui fut mis au plus haut, de l’homme consacré par le Dieu de Jacob, de celui qui chantait les psaumes d’Israël.	1 These are the last words of David: Thus speaks David son of Jesse, thus speaks the man raised toeminence, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the singer of the songs of Israel:
2 L’esprit de Yahvé a parlé par moi, et sa parole est dans ma bouche.	2 The spirit of Yahweh speaks through me, his word is on my tongue;
3 Le Dieu de Jacob a parlé, le rocher d’Israël a dit: Un juste qui est meneur d’hommes, qui les mène dans la crainte de Dieu,	3 the God of Jacob has spoken, the Rock of Israel has said to me: He whose rule is upright on earth,who rules in the fear of God,
4 il est lumière du matin au lever du soleil, il est un matin sans nuages où brille après la pluie le gazon de la terre.	4 is like the morning light at sunrise (on a cloudless morning) making the grass of the earth sparkle afterrain.
5 Ma maison n’est-elle pas cela même pour Dieu, lui qui m’a réservé une alliance éternelle, bien ordonnée, bien garantie? Ne fera-t-il pas germer mon salut, tout ce que j’ai désiré?	5 Yes, my House stands firm with God: he has made an eternal covenant with me, al in order, welassured; does he not bring to fruition my every victory and desire?
6 Les gens sans foi ni loi ne sont que des épines: on les rejette, on ne les prendra pas avec la main.	6 But men of Belial he rejects like thorns, for these are never taken up in the hand:
7 Qui veut s’y attaquer s’arme d’un fer ou d’un bois de lance, ils sont brûlés, consumés par le feu.”	7 no one touches them except with a pitchfork or spear-shaft, and then only to burn them to nothing!
8 Voici les noms des braves qui étaient au service de David: Ichbaal le Hakmonite, le chef des “Trois”; c’est lui qui, de sa lance, fit en une seule fois 800 victimes.	8 These are the names of David's champions: Ishbaal the Hachmonite leader of the Three; it was hewho brandished his spear over eight hundred men whom he had kil ed at one time.
9 Après lui, Éléazar fils de Dodo l’Ahohite, qui était un autre des trois braves; il était avec David à Pasdamim lorsque les Philistins se rassemblèrent pour le combat. Les Israélites battaient en retraite,	9 Next, there was Eleazar son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three champions. He was with David atPas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there and the men of Israel had disbanded.
10 mais lui fit face; il frappa les Philistins, jusqu’à en avoir la main si fatiguée qu’elle restait crispée sur son épée. Ce jour-là Yahvé donna une grande victoire. L’armée revint par la suite, mais il n’y avait plus qu’à dépouiller les ennemis.	10 But he stood his ground and cut down the Philistines until his hand was so stiff that he could not letgo of the sword. Yahweh brought about a great victory that day, and the people rallied behind him, although onlyto plunder.
11 Après lui, Chamma fils d’Éla, le Hararite. Les Philistins s’étaient réunis à Léhi; il y avait là tout près un champ de lentilles et l’armée tourna le dos devant les Philistins.	11 Next, there was Shamma son of Elah, the Hararite. The Philistines had mustered at Lehi. There wasa field ful of lentils there; the people fled from the Philistines,
12 Alors il se plaça au milieu du champ, il le dégagea et battit les Philistins: Yahvé donna la victoire.	12 but he took his stand in the middle of the field, held it, and cut down the Philistines; and Yahwehbrought about a great victory.
13 Parmi les “Trente”, il y en eut trois qui descendirent à la rencontre de David au temps de la moisson, à la grotte d’Adoullam, alors qu’une compagnie de Philistins campait dans le vallon des Réphaïm,	13 Three members of the Thirty went down at the beginning of the harvest and came to David at theCave of Adullam while a company of Philistines was encamped in the Val ey of the Rephaim.
14 David était dans le refuge et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléem.	14 David was then in the stronghold, and there was a Philistine garrison in Bethlehem.
15 David eut un désir, il dit: “Qui me fera boire l’eau de la citerne qui est à l’entrée de Bethléem?”	15 Longingly David said, 'If only someone would fetch me a drink of water from the wel that stands bythe gate at Bethlehem!'
16 Les trois braves s’ouvrirent un passage au travers du camp des Philistins, ils puisèrent de l’eau dans la citerne qui est à l’entrée de Bethléem, ils la rapportèrent et la donnèrent à David. Mais lui ne voulut pas en boire et il la répandit en offrande devant Yahvé.	16 At this, the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, taking it away, presented it to David. He, however, would not drinkany of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.
17 Il déclara: “Que Dieu me garde de boire cette eau, c’est le sang de ces hommes qui ont risqué leur vie.” Il ne voulut donc pas en boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois braves.	17 'Yahweh preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! This is the blood of men who went at risk oftheir lives.' That was why he would not drink. Such were the deeds of these three champions.
18 Le chef des “Trente” était Abisaï frère de Joab et fils de Sérouya. Il se fit un nom parmi les “Trente” lorsque, brandissant sa lance, il fit 300 victimes.	18 Abishai, brother of Joab and son of Zeruiah, was leader of the Thirty. It was he who brandished hisspear over three hundred men whom he had kil ed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.
19 Il fut le plus célèbre des “Trente” et devint leur chef, mais il n’atteignit pas au niveau des “Trois”.	19 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty and became their captain, but he was not equal to theThree.
20 Bénayas fils de Yoyada était un vaillant, auteur de nombreux exploits: il venait de Qabzéel. C’est lui qui abattit les deux héros de Moab; un jour de neige il descendit dans une citerne pour y tuer le lion.	20 Benaiah of Kabzeel was the son of Jehoiada and hero of many exploits. He it was who slaughteredtwo formidable Moabites and, one snowy day, climbed down and slaughtered the lion in the storage-wel .
21 Il abattit aussi un Égyptien de haute taille; l’Égyptien avait en main sa lance, et Bénayas s’avança vers lui avec un gourdin. Il arracha la lance de la main de l’Égyptien et le tua avec sa propre lance.	21 He also slaughtered an Egyptian of great stature. The Egyptian was armed with a spear, but he tookhim on with a staff, tore the spear from the Egyptian's hand and kil ed the man with it.
22 Voilà les exploits de Bénayas fils de Yoyada. Il se fit un nom parmi les 30 braves	22 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, winning him a name among the thirty champions.
23 et fut même plus célèbre que les “Trente”, mais on ne le compta pas parmi les “Trois”. David le fit entrer dans sa garde personnelle.	23 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty, but he was not equal to the Three. David put him incommand of his bodyguard.
24 Azaël frère de Joab faisait partie des “Trente”. De même Elhanan fils de Dodo, de Bethléem,	24 Asahel brother of Joab was one of the Thirty; Elhanan son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;
25 Chamma de Harod, Élika de Harod,	25 Shammah of Harod; Elika of Harod;
26 Hélès de Beth-Pélet, Ira fils d’Ikech de Tékoa,	26 Helez of Beth-Pelet; Ira son of Ikkesh, of Tekoa;
27 Abiézer d’Anatot, Sibékaï de Houcha,	27 Abiezer of Anathoth; Sibbecai of Hushah;
28 Salmon d’Ahoh, Mahraï de Nétofa,	28 Zalmon of Ahoh; Maharai of Netophah;
29 Héled fils de Baana, de Nétofa, Ittaï fils de Ribaï, de Guibéa de Benjamin,	29 Heled son of Baanah, of Netophah; Ittai son of Ribai, of Gibeah in Benjamin;
30 Bénayas de Piréaton, Hiddaï des Torrents de Gaach,	30 Benaiah of Pirathon; Hiddai of the Torrents of Gaash;
