| 1 A Moab questo dice lo Signore delli esèrciti, Iddio d' Israel: guai sopra Nabo! poi ch' è guasta e confusa (e morrà); presa è Cariataim; confusa è la forte e si spaurì. | 1 Concerning Moab. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Woe to Nebo, for it is laid waste! Kiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken; the fortress is put to shame and broken down; |
| 2 Non ci è più allegrezza in Moab; e pensarono male contro a Esebon. Venite, e scacciatela dalla gente. Adunque istando cheta tacerai, e lo coltello ti seguiterà. | 2 the renown of Moab is no more. In Heshbon they planned evil against her: 'Come, let us cut her off from being a nation!' You also, O Madmen, shall be brought to silence; the sword shall pursue you. |
| 3 La voce di romore di Oronaim: guastamento, e grande tritamento. | 3 "Hark! a cry from Horonaim, 'Desolation and great destruction!' |
| 4 È trita Moab; annunziate lo romore alli suoi piccolini. | 4 Moab is destroyed; a cry is heard as far as Zoar. |
| 5 Luit salio piagnendo per lo salimento nel pianto; però che nella descensione di Oronaim li nimici udirono urlo di contrizione: | 5 For at the ascent of Luhith they go up weeping; for at the descent of Horonaim they have heard the cry of destruction. |
| 6 Fuggite, salvate le vostre anime; e sarete quasi come [miriche] nel deserto. | 6 Flee! Save yourselves! Be like a wild ass in the desert! |
| 7 Però che avesti fidanza nelle tue armature e ne' tuoi tesori, tu in verità sarai presa; e Camos anderà in transmigrazione, e li suoi sacerdoti e' suoi principi insieme. | 7 For, because you trusted in your strongholds and your treasures, you also shall be taken; and Chemosh shall go forth into exile, with his priests and his princes. |
| 8 E verrà lo predatore ad ogni terra, e nulla terra sarà salvata; e le valli periranno, e li campi saranno (dipartiti e) sconciati; però che Iddio disse: | 8 The destroyer shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape; the valley shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD has spoken. |
| 9 Date lo fiore di Moab, per che di fuori uscirà; le sue cittadi saranno deserte e sanza abitazione. | 9 "Give wings to Moab, for she would fly away; her cities shall become a desolation, with no inhabitant in them. |
| 10 Maledetto lo uomo che fa l' opera del Signore Iddio fraudolentemente; e maledetto colui che vieta lo suo coltello del sangue. | 10 "Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD with slackness; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from bloodshed. |
| 11 Moab fu abbondante dalla sua fanciullezza, e riposossi nelle sue feci, e non è stato transmesso di vaso in vaso, e non andoe in transmigrazione; però rimase lo suo gusto in lui, e lo suo odore non è immutato. | 11 "Moab has been at ease from his youth and has settled on his lees; he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, nor has he gone into exile; so his taste remains in him, and his scent is not changed. |

| 13 E sarà confuso Moab da Camos, come è confusa la casa (sua) d' Israel da Betel, nella quale avea fidanza. | 13 Then Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence. |
| 14 O come dite voi: noi siamo forti uomini, e robusti a combattere? | 14 "How do you say, 'We are heroes and mighty men of war? |
| 15 Moab è guastata; e le sue cittadi assalirono, e li suoi eletti giovani discesero in occisione, disse lo re; lo Signore delli esèrciti è lo suo nome. | 15 The destroyer of Moab and his cities has come up, and the choicest of his young men have gone down to slaughter, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. |
| 16 Presso è la morte di Moab per venire; lo suo male velocemente corre troppo. | 16 The calamity of Moab is near at hand and his affliction hastens apace. |
| 17 Consolate lui, voi tutti che siete nel suo circuito; e voi che sapete lo suo nome, sì dite: come è rotta la verga forte, e la mazza gloriosa? | 17 Bemoan him, all you who are round about him, and all who know his name; say, 'How the mighty scepter is broken, the glorious staff.' |
| 18 Discendi (della forza) della gloria, e siedi nella sete, abitazione della figliuola di Dibon; però che lo guastatore di Moab verrà a te, e dissiperà le tue armadure. | 18 "Come down from your glory, and sit on the parched ground, O inhabitant of Dibon! For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you; he has destroyed your strongholds. |
| 19 Istà nella via, e agguarda, abitazione di Aroer; addomanda quello che fugge, e a quello che è iscampato, die: che t'è avvenuto? | 19 Stand by the way and watch, O inhabitant of Aroer! Ask him who flees and her who escapes; say, 'What has happened?' |
| 20 Moab è confuso, però ch' egli è vinto; urlate e gridate, e annunziate in Arnon, però che guastato è Moab. | 20 Moab is put to shame, for it is broken; wail and cry! Tell it by the Arnon, that Moab is laid waste. |
| 21 E lo giudicio è venuto alla terra de' campi; sopra Elon e sopra Iasa e sopra Mefat, | 21 "Judgment has come upon the tableland, upon Holon, and Jahzah, and Mepha-ath, |
| 22 e sopra Dibon e sopra Nabo [e sopra] la casa del Deblataim, | 22 and Dibon, and Nebo, and Beth-diblathaim, |
| 23 e sopra Cariataim e sopra Beltgamul e sopra Betmaon, | 23 and Kiriathaim, and Beth-gamul, and Beth-meon, |
| 24 e sopra Cariot e sopra Bosra e sopra tutte le cittadi della terra di Moab, le quali sono da lungi e appresso; (tutti questi sono nomi di terre). | 24 and Keri-oth, and Bozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. |
| 25 Lo corno di Moab sì è tagliato, e lo braccio suo confratto, dice Iddio. | 25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, says the LORD. |
| 26 Inebriatelo (del calice dell' ira di Dio), però che s'è levato contro Iddio; e percoterà la mano di Moab nel suo vomito (cioè nel suo rigettare), e anco sarà dato lui in derisione. | 26 "Make him drunk, because he magnified himself against the LORD; so that Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he too shall be held in derision. |
| 27 Fu anco iscorno a te, Israel, quasi come tu l'avessi trovato tra li latroni; adunque per le tue parole, le quali tu hai parlato contro a lui, sarai menato per prigione. | 27 Was not Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves, that whenever you spoke of him you wagged your head? |
| 28 Abbandonate le cittadi, e abitate nelle pietre. voi abitatori di Moab; siate quasi come la colomba, che istà nel nido in sommo alla bocca del forame. | 28 "Leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, O inhabitants of Moab! Be like the dove that nests in the sides of the mouth of a gorge. |
| 29 Noi aviamo udito la superbia di Moab; egli è molto superbo; la sublimità sua e la arroganza e la superbia e l'altezza del suo cuore. | 29 We have heard of the pride of Moab--he is very proud--of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart. |
| 30 Dice Iddio: io so lo suo vanto e l' arroganza; non fia appo lei la sua virtude, appresso a quello che potea fare la fortezza. | 30 I know his insolence, says the LORD; his boasts are false, his deeds are false. |
| 31 Però io mi lagnerò sopra Moab, e gridando dirò a tutto Moab, e alli uomini del muro fatto che si lamentavano. | 31 Therefore I wail for Moab; I cry out for all Moab; for the men of Kir-heres I mourn. |
| 32 Del pianto di lazer io piagnerò a te, vigna Sabama; li tuoi rami passorono il mare, pervennero infino al mare di Iazer; il predatore venne (in rovina) sopra la tua ricolta e la vendemmia. | 32 More than for Jazer I weep for you, O vine of Sibmah! Your branches passed over the sea, reached as far as Jazer, upon your summer fruits and your vintage the destroyer has fallen. |
| 33 La letizia e l'allegrezza è tolta di Carmelo e della terra di Moab; e ho tolto lo vino de' canali, e lo follatore dell' uva non canterà più la sua usata canzone. | 33 Gladness and joy have been taken away from the fruitful land of Moab; I have made the wine cease from the wine presses; no one treads them with shouts of joy; the shouting is not the shout of joy. |
| 34 Dello romore d' Esebon insino ad Eleale e Iasa diedono la loro voce; di Segor insino ad Oronaim, come vitella che si gitta in terra; e l'acque di Nemrim seranno pessime. | 34 "Heshbon and Ele-aleh cry out; as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate. |

| 36 Però lo mio cuore suonerà a Moab quasi casa di metallo; e lo mio cuore alli uomini del muro malvagio darà suono delle gambe; per che feciono più che non poterono; però perirono. | 36 Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of Kir-heres; therefore the riches they gained have perished. |
| 37 Ogni capo sarà calvo, e ogni barba sarà rasa; in ogni mano sarà allegatura, e sopra ogni dorso sarà cilicio. | 37 "For every head is shaved and every beard cut off; upon all the hands are gashes, and on the loins is sackcloth. |
| 38 Sopra tutti li tetti di Moab e nelle sue piazze sarà tutto pianto; però che è trito Moab sì come vaso disutile, dice Iddio. | 38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation; for I have broken Moab like a vessel for which no one cares, says the LORD. |
| 39 Com'è allegata, e urlano? come gittò Moab lo collo, e confuso è? E sarà Moab posto per ischerno, e in esempio a tutte le genti del suo circuito. | 39 How it is broken! How they wail! How Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab has become a derision and a horror to all that are round about him." |
| 40 Questo dice Iddio: ecco, volerà a modo d' aquila, e distese l'ali sue a Moab. | 40 For thus says the LORD: "Behold, one shall fly swiftly like an eagle, and spread his wings against Moab; |
| 41 Cariot sì è presa, e tutte le sue armature sono comprese; e sarà lo cuore de' forti di Moab in quello dì, come lo cuore della femina che partorisce. | 41 the cities shall be taken and the strongholds seized. The heart of the warriors of Moab shall be in that day like the heart of a woman in her pangs; |
| 42 E lo populo sì cesserà d'essere di Moab; però che s'è gloriato incontro a Dio. | 42 Moab shall be destroyed and be no longer a people, because he magnified himself against the LORD. |
| 43 Timore e fossa e lacciuolo sopra te, o abitatore di Moab, dice Iddio. | 43 Terror, pit, and snare are before you, O inhabitant of Moab! says the LORD. |
| 44 Chi fuggirà dalla faccia del timore (di Dio) cadrà nella fossa; e chi (sarà e) salirà della fossa sarà preso dal lacciuolo; io adducerò sopra Moab l'anno della loro visitazione, dice Iddio. | 44 He who flees from the terror shall fall into the pit, and he who climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare. For I will bring these things upon Moab in the year of their punishment, says the LORD. |
| 45 Egli stettono nell' ombra di Esebon fuggenti dello lacciuolo; però che lo fuoco è uscito di Esebon, e la fiamma del mezzo di Seon, e divorerà la parte di Moab e la sommità de' figliuoli di tumulto. (Lo tumulto si è vocabolo in grammatica', che in volgare si dice quando una gente viene con grande furore). | 45 "In the shadow of Heshbon fugitives stop without strength; for a fire has gone forth from Heshbon, a flame from the house of Sihon; it has destroyed the forehead of Moab, the crown of the sons of tumult. |
| 46 Guai a te, Moab! se' tu, popolo di Camos, perito; però che li tuoi figliuoli sono presi, e le tue figliuole sono poste in prigione. | 46 Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh is undone; for your sons have been taken captive, and your daughters into captivity. |
| 47 E convertirò la cattivitade di Moab nelli novissimi dì, dice Iddio. Infino a qui si è trattato dei giudicii di Moab. | 47 Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the latter days, says the LORD." Thus far is the judgment on Moab. |
